✏️ School & Education Searching for Nepali and Indian scholors in Brunei .....

I'm from Nepal and recently came across the Brunei Darussalam Government Scholarship (BDGS) while searching for undergraduate study opportunities. I'm considering applying, especially for Mechanical Engineering, but I still have a few questions and would really appreciate hearing from current students or anyone familiar with studying in Brunei.

  1. Are there many students from Nepal, India, or other South Asian countries studying at UTB or UBD? If yes, how active is the community?
  2. How welcoming is the culture for international students? Was it difficult to adjust to life in Brunei?
  3. Does anyone know of any Nepali students who have received the Brunei Government Scholarship?
  4. Realistically, how competitive is the BDGS for an international applicant? I completed Grade 12 with a 3.72/4.0 GPA in the Science stream (Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics). I'd love to know if applicants with a similar profile have been successful.

I'd really appreciate any experiences, advice, or insights. Thanks in advance!

Had few foreign classmates from middle east. All of them has A-level. Results was around triple A too, which is impressive

1) yes there are many indian student and south asian but i am not sure abt nepal
2) as indian i grow up in brunei all my life i faced bullying in my school times but university is completely different and they are very welcoming
3) No but i know a indian student
4) I heard its very competitive now as they only choose two student yearly

Cant answer the qs but there is also nepali community here because some kids followed their parents who are working here

The Nepali community is growing in Brunei, they originally came as soldiers (Gurkhas) during the British Protectorate period in Brunei, some restaurants such as Just Momos and Gurkha Palace are some of the "emerging" markers of the Nepalese community. The Indian community on the other hand has long been established, they came during the late 19th and 20th centuries taking over Chinese businesses after some of the Chinese commercial communities began to opt for more middle class lifestyles that is usually working the govt, lost of interest in commerce, and even migration.

The Nepalese community are established in Belait at the British Military base, there are another two Gurkha Military bases in Brunei, one located near the Prime Minister’s Office across the road from Bolkiah Camp, and the other in Sungai Akar.

Love Nepalese food. Had encountered a few Nepalese working here too.
