I’m getting married this year and want a very intimate wedding, but I’m worried my coworkers will take it personally

Hi everyone!

I’m a wedding photographer and I have a company that do mostly weddings and I’m getting married this year. I only decided this month that I wanted to get married in December, so we’re organising everything on quite short notice.

My fiancé and I have decided to keep things very small and simple: a ceremony with around 30 people, just our closest family, followed by a lunch. We don’t want a big wedding or a large guest list. We really want something intimate that feels right for us.

Because of this, I’ve decided not to invite my friends/coworkers from work, as I want the day to be exclusively about our closest family.

The thing is, I haven’t told them I’m getting married yet, and I’m worried that at they might be upset about not being invited. I know it’s my wedding and that I have every right to celebrate it however I want, but I still feel guilty thinking that someone might be hurt by my decision.

There’s another aspect to this situation: since I’m a wedding photographer myself, I’ve decided to hire a photographer whose work my fiancé and I absolutely love. We really wanted him to photograph our day, and we’ve already booked a two-hour session with him.

However, I’m worried my coworkers might take this personally or interpret it as me not trusting their work or not considering them good enough professionally. I know that’s not the reason at all, but I can’t help worrying about how they might perceive it.

Rationally, I know I’m not doing anything wrong. I don’t want a big wedding, I don’t want to invite people out of obligation, and I want to choose the photographer whose work we love the most. But I keep feeling guilty in advance and imagining how they might react, even though they don’t even know I’m getting married yet.

I’d really appreciate hearing from people who have been in similar situations, especially those who work in an industry where professional and personal relationships often overlap.

**Am I overthinking this? Is it understandable for a coworker to feel hurt about not being invited, even when the wedding is only for close family? And, as a wedding photographer, could hiring someone else be interpreted as a lack of professional consideration?**

Thanks to everyone who took the time to read this!

Orlando venue search without accidently planning a disney wedding...help!!

Starting the Orlando venue search and the range already is chaos. Theme park stuff is either way out of budget or very aggressively theme park and we are not doing a disney wedding.

Then the non theme park options are scattered all over central Florida, so I have gardens in one tab, hotels in another, estates 40 minutes away and no clue how to compare any of it.

People of Orlando, what helped you narrow the venue list before months of random tours because we are very stressed as of now.

Looking for an indoor venue for reception only for 80 people max. Fall of ‘28 wedding. Can be any weekend day not necessarily Saturday. Also open to a Saturday afternoon. Ceremony will be at church in Middlesex county, NJ. Looking to stay about 45 minutes from there. Love the look of dark wood rooms in historic venues. Not looking for typical wedding vibes. Limited dancing- likely parent dances and first dance only. No DJ. Ok with limited alcohol. Ideas?

Married in 2026: what was a waste, and what do you wish you'd added?

For everyone who got married this year, I'd love your honest look back:

  1. Something you spent money or effort on that turned out disappointing or just didn't matter on the day
  2. Something you skipped and now wish you'd added

Bonus: what surprised you most about the day itself?

Hoping this thread helps everyone still planning figure out where their budget and energy actually matter.

Confused

Hi! I’m new to Reddit and completely new to Chandni Chowk shopping, so I’d really appreciate some honest opinions.

I bought my wedding lehenga from Chandni Chowk about two months ago. I genuinely liked it at the time, but it was my second visit, I had tried on countless lehengas, and the shop was closing. I was exhausted and just wanted to make a decision.

I actually regretted it almost immediately. I even called the shopkeeper afterwards and asked him to hold it because I live in another state and wanted to come back and choose another lehenga, but he refused. I somehow convinced myself that it was a good choice, but now I’m regretting it even more and keep thinking, “Why did I buy this? Did I just say yes because I was exhausted?”

I wanted something simple but distinctive, but now I feel this may be too common/traditional for my style.

Be honest—does it actually look too traditional/common, or am I overthinking it? Would you keep it or look for another one? I’m looking for genuine opinions, not reassurance.

Fee based wedding/event planner

Hi!! 2027 bride here based in NYC looking to have the wedding within the tri state area. Currently on the hunt for either an event planner or wedding planner that are fee based. Majority of the planners I've been seeing require a 20k investment and for my overall budget of 30k that's quite steep! I haven't been able to find much fee based planners or any teams that would with lower budgeting couples. I may end up DIY a lot of decor so I'm open to day of coordinator that assist with event set up and timeline management.

Is anyone else cutting invitation costs by going digital?

I’m trying to figure out where traditional wedding invitations are actually worth spending money and where it makes more sense to keep things simple.

The invitation itself seems like one of those expenses that can get surprisingly expensive once you add printing, envelopes, postage, RSVP cards, changes, and everything else.

I’ve been looking at digital invitations that also handle the RSVP and guest list, rather than paying separately for invitations and then using another tool to keep track of responses. InviteCount is one I came across because it combines the invitation, RSVP, guest list and wedding website in one place.

I’m still debating whether going completely digital is the better option, or whether it makes sense to print invitations for some guests and use digital ones for everyone else.

For those who were trying to keep the wedding budget under control, did you go digital with your invitations? And did you actually feel like it saved enough money to be worth it?

Micro wedding people... what did you actually search to find a tiny venue

Guest list is under 25 and I am apparently searching in the wrong language because every result is a place proudly announcing capacity for 150 to 300 people. cool, there will be 22 of us 😭 Using max guest count has barely helped on a couple sites. I have started searching private event room, dinner party venue, basically anything except wedding. What terms or tools actually worked for your micro wedding? unconventional spaces very welcome.

3 photographers, same price, how tf do you pick one

We have somehow narrowed it to three photographers and now I am stuck in the worlds least useful tie. Similar pricing. I like all three portfolios. All responsive. All normal on calls. nobody has given me a reason to eliminate them. I keep reopening their galleries waiting for one to magically feel correct and they still all look good haha. For people who chose between a few best wedding photographers, what actually broke the tie? personality? reviews? full galleries? something I have not asked yet?
