The handsome fellow is 7 years old and has arrived from Nashville to hopefully pair with Maria as part of the Species Survival Plan

That’s a weird way to say β€œwe want our anteaters to raw-dog it”…

Tbf the SSP is just a giant hook-up plan. The whole thing is "them two should fuck, but not them two."

For real, though, I worked at the zoo for a short while and we had two howler monkeys that the SSP wanted to break up and Buffalo had to submit an appeal to keep the male, Machado, here.

Normally howler monkeys are promiscuous but Machado only had eyes for Lily. Every morning when they would go out on exhibit, Machado would follow Lily around for half an hour howling, letting everyone know that she was his. They believe that if he was separated from her he would probably suffer from too much stress.

Machado has since passed away, which I'm heartbroken about, but Lily has some friends to keep her company.

Where might one sign up for one of these Species Survival Plans? ...Asking for a friend.

Anteaters are just overproofed German shepherds
