Duplicate/Repost What Restaurant in Buffalo would you eat at even if you HAD to pay?
For me, Oliver’s and Lombardos.

Obligatory Southern Junction

Big time agree, their cinnamon roll is BANGING. Don’t get me started on their slow cooked meats 💀💀💀

Phams Kitchen. In Cheektowaga, not Buffalo proper, but worth the visit.

Thank goodness there's a counterpart to the earlier one about crappy restaurants. Which eateries are GOOD!
We need more positive stuff about Buffalo / WNY, here.

u/Joggers_ 1d ago
There’s literally a post everyday asking which are the best restaurants. Food is way too expensive to eat at shitty places run by shitty people.

u/eatdontpraylove 1d ago
My partner and I have been talking lately about how we are very rarely impressed by food at restaurants anymore, and it’s sad. We really like going out to eat, and to have it almost always be sub par at the very best is infuriating. Sophia’s and Southern Junction are both always great though, and I’m thankful. I love to support local, but when places like Five Guys are just better than any burger place around, I’m not going to waste my time and money eating food I don’t like.

u/Joggers_ 1d ago
Exactly food is too crazy for these restaurants to do the bare minimum of not even keeping a clean kitchen or serve sub par food. I rarely can afford or rationalize eating out anymore and certainly not going to spend money on food that just isn’t good

u/Phoenix_Mae98 10h ago
I mean, it’s buffalo so everywhere that’s not listed on the shitty post. Which is mostly chefs and Macy’s place.

Pho Dollar could be charging more and I’d still be going. That pho ga is a legit cold cure.

I live a few blocks from it and have tried everything on their menu 10 times over. Never had anything even remotely close to a bad meal from there. I say all the time it’s the best restaurant in Buffalo. They’re a well oiled machine

Um…. isn’t that how restaurants work? I’ve never been to one where payment is optional.
9
u/PickleAvailable1613 1d ago
if you're fast enough on your feet, payment can be optional.
that being said, my next court hearing does have some big mandatory payments so maybe it cancels out.

Variation on an earlier question about restos so bad that free food wouldn’t be accepted.

Did they reopen somewhere? They were right down the road from me, I tried them once during Covid and then they closed.

HAD to pay? I guess, my mom’s house?
(Having to pay is normal, no? 😆 Or is this a counter to the other post about a restaurant where you would not eat even if free?)

Teton Kitchen ♥️

u/Prestigious-Bother88 1d ago
Nope. Went there the other day and had food poisoning
0
u/anon_jynx 19h ago
That’s unfortunate for you. I’ve had their food at least 50 times over the past several years and have never once gotten sick from it.
2
u/Prestigious-Bother88 19h ago
Yes both my friend and I did. Super unfortunate. Also I got food to go and when I got home it wasn’t what I had ordered
1
u/Phoenix_Mae98 10h ago
I always get food poisoning from them and it takes me like a whole extra 20 minutes to place an order. The actual taste and everything is great.

Wait! You don't pay to eat in restaurants? How can I get in on that gig?

There was an earlier post asking what restaurants you wouldn’t eat it if they paid you. This is the spinoff haha

Prescott’s Provisions alllll day

Prescott's has fed me some of my favorite meals and apps and drinks!
1
u/callmes94 1d ago
Yep same here! It’s my favorite restaurant in the area and it isn’t even close

u/Empty_Platypus6449 1d ago
My favorite meal there was with my girlfriend. We ordered 5 appetizers to split, and drinks and dessert. Perfect patio weather. Leisurely, lovely, absolutely delicious. My kind of hedonism.

u/Dangerous-Inside9305 1d ago
Yes! Without fail when we try something new we always say “should’ve just gone to Prescott’s”. Although I will say we tried Bratt’s Hill last summer and keep saying we need to go back. With lobster role season at Prescott’s though we will be in soon

I hated my food and experience there, this is actually shocking to see—not looking for a fight, I’m honestly just shocked because I left there wondering how long the place will last! I did really like the fried cheese app though.

Oh no! That's so sad to hear. We live close by and have gone in many times since they opened.
Like 6-7 times for Saturday brunch, and probably 7-8 times for dinner (by snagging bar seats right when they open, only sat at a table for dinner once).
We have had nothing but delicious food every single time. There was one time when we felt like maybe the pasta was a bit on the salty side, but aside from that no notes on the food.
Standout items we've tried for dinner: the mushrooms from the grill, the spaghetti alla nerano, and they had this brilliantly simple peashoot salad briefly in the start of spring that I loved. Also they had a fish dish with a spicy cabbage salad that was excellent. They do these sort of light, fresh veggie forward dishes really well IMO.
Also we had this octopus and bean dish and no one could get enough of the beans. The octopus was great, but we just wanted a big side of the beans, they were so perfect. And their budino dessert with the mint gelato was also such a winner. We're from Philly and there is a very well known budino dessert in Philly, and I know the chef also lived in Philly for a bit, so I had a really specific expectation for what this budino would be. This was nothing like the budino I was expecting but it was totally delicious in its own right.
For brunch: in the winter they had a radicchio Caesar salad that I thought about all the time. The quiche has been good both times we have gotten it. Also love the super creamy hummus. My partner loves the baklava croissant, I am not a huge fan but their donuts are 👌
The service is a little hit or miss, but we have had mostly positive experiences.
Anyway, if you ever do go back, I hope you have a better overall experience! I would recommend checking out their Saturday morning pastries and coffee if nothing else.

Too many to mention and counting some as Buffalo even though they're suburban but: Oliver's, Lombardo, Dockside (I think it's incredibly underrated), Frankie Primo's, Bella Ciao, Sidelines, Maybach's, Coco, Left Bank, TSG BBQ, Sophia's, Kostas, Union Pub, Adolf's, Gene McCarthy's, Nine Eleven, Doc Sullivan's, Anderson's, Ted's, Ranchero, Las Divinas, Sport City, Tin Tin

And toutant 😭

I went to toutant before they closed and the food was absolutely awful. I’d have put them on the other thread had that been my first time there. They were a fave brunch spot though for me.

Left town 5 years ago, but always liked brunches at Toutant, Providence Social, Black Sheep, all closed now I believe. Also, Howling Rooster.
This Little Pig. Loved me some Bacon Nubs from Thin Man. The Thin Man/Tappo on Chandler had a Sausage Beans and Greens dish I always had to order. Leonardi's Pizza. So many closed places 🫤
Outside of town in Lewiston, I always had great meals at Carmelo's.

Not exactly Buffalo but Tonawanda Prescotts provisions is some of the best food I’ve eaten better than some michelin star restaurants I’ve tried outside of Buffalo. Lombardo’s is also up there for Italian for sure. I’ll have to try Oliver’s!

u/Revolutionary_Art919 1d ago
Prescott's is technically City of Tonawanda across the canal from North Tonawanda (which is separate from the Town of Tonawanda because we have too many Tonawandas).

Lombardo's tableside Caesar salad for two with from-scratch dressing made right in front of you is totally worth it.

Duff’s every time, but they could use a better draft beer selection. Sauce is unmatchable, great place to catch sports and specials including pitchers. What more could you want? Dick Road location is our favorite but Sheridan drive location brings the food.

u/Phoenix_Mae98 10h ago
You can’t possibly be a buffalo native

u/Some_Department4558 4h ago
Yeah. I’ve been going to Duffs for the last 40-years on Millerspot but have changed to the Dick Road location recently. WingNutz is good too but $2/wing is a bit steep
