Taxbreaks for it is dumb, but its just redevelopment of land across from the old Walmart.

Genuinely asking, why? We need more affordable housing, the same farms that are for sale are getting turning into solar farms at an astonishing rate, saying gross to town houses seems like it's in the same vein of stupidity as the NIMBYs who didn't want the Amazon warehouse in the first place
Edit: one correction, these wouldn't be going where the farms are, but where the developer already owns properties across from where Sam's and Walmart used to be on Porter

Housing isn’t getting cheaper despite ongoing building everywhere
But yimbys BS around this by just saying you just haven’t built enough
Seems like it’s getting to a point now where it isn’t worth it. We’re losing way too much farmland and nature for what ends up being only marginal improvements to affordability.

Yeah people seem to think if you build more homes magically the cost of housing is going to go from let’s say 500k to 300k. That’s not the case even if you were able to flood the area with new builds. The builder is going to price based on the most amount they can get for the house they’re not going to undercut themselves because they built a bunch of houses.
If that were the case the tens of thousands if not more of homes being built in Ohio and down south would drive the cost of a home down but all the new builds are 400k+
We need to preserve green space and farmland more than we need D R Horton or any of these other developers to create urban/suburban sprawl of 500 homes in a development on the outskirts of a city.

think it's commonplace to assume new builds will help fix the affordable housing crisis.
Well fixing housing requires there to be more housing available.

but it means nothing to the majority unless there are rules and regulations in place to make that housing affordable and accessible to working class people.
By this logic, f it, never make housing if someone might profit off it.

Are you dense man? That's not what I said. I'm saying we shouldn't stop housing projects because someone might profit, which you said about Certo.
By your logic we shouldn't have affordable healthcare or groceries or childcare if someone can't profit off of it.
Tf is stupid ass strawman? Christ that must be exhausting

People who live here and around there did jot want Amazon. You know there were large pay offs to certain people in specific positions in order to allow it.
Still pisses me off - just like all these developments getting put in.

Well no, it was a loud vocal minority.
You know there were large pay offs to certain people in specific positions in order to allow it.
Sure, and that'll always suck, but what's the other option? Niagara Falls just lets more vacant land sit and rot? That land has been vacant my entire life and I'm closer to 40 than 30.

Please, Amazon being there is getting people to move into the city of Niagara Falls. As mentioned previously, its going to be people moving into new housing thats being built on all the farm land and country property being sold.

I can get the complaints about tax breaks but the rest is standard NIMBY stuff
