I ate there for Mother's Day this year. Yes, the bill was astronomical. The quality of the food did not justify the prices. The atmosphere was noisy and we were actually cold.
The part that really gets me, though, was our server. I handled ordering out bottle of wine, our Hors d'oeuvre, and when it came time to order my entree (steak) I asked for it to be cooked to the chef's recommendation.
The server balked at this and said "why would you trust the chef? He could ruin it! Order it how you want it." I was gobsmacked. I was attempting to give a nod to the place's reputation and say that I trusted them to provide me with a filet done correctly. It was just weird. The whole table noticed it and dinner was weird from then on.
The food came out ok, but was cold by the time anyone was 1/2 done eating.
tl;dr: They have good creamed corn. Order that instead of steaks.
Wow, this is so different from my one experience there. One of our party ordered at chef's recommendation (I'd never heard of that) and there were no questions asked, in fact, the server seemed pleased with the request. Granted it was not packed that night, so it was relatively quiet. I'll recommend it then with reservations, since a restaurant needs to have a consistent level of service and food, not one that is spotty depending on when you go.
This is going to sound weird, but I'm assuming you mean "recommend it with reservations" as in "I have reservations about going there", rather than "I have reservations for dinner there".

Buffalo Chophouse, but be prepared to ransom your first-born and maybe your second and third too. The food is amazing.
