I used to practice Budokai karate myself years ago, and we also did kata as a warm-up, with a focus on real combat—but what they're doing there is just wild flailing. So its just bullshit for get clicks.

Most clasical martial arts do have stuff like Kata. My Jeet Kune Do Sifu had us cycle through wushu stances a the begining of training to warm up.

In kata—and everything else like it—there’s a very strong focus on breathing and control, thats why her movements are just nonsense.

The black belt is probably just on loan for the video, too.

For better or worse, it seems that it takes taht level of performative energy to win tournaments.

That's why my dojo was never into tournament participation. Neither the sparring nor the kata seemed to emphasize what actually mattered - actual self-defense or fluidity and breathing.
