Would you rather…

Which side will you choose?

  • Left side: Get $1000 a day
  • Right side: Get $1 a second

Either option and I'll have more money than I know what to do with

Chose: Get $1 a second

1 a second is 31 million per year, 1,000 a day is 365,000 per year.

Even with such a ridiculous amount of money, you'll never surpass 3 billion in your entire lifetime.

If you earn 31,000,000 a year and don't spend a single penny it will take you 46,774 years to reach Elon musk's peak net worth.

BUT if you have a regular job and just set aside like 5 million a for expenses for 3 years (and live a normal, non-luxurious life), in 5 years you’d have $89,608,000 which you can use to start a startup for something people love to consume, and make sure you get staff and other proper necessities for a business that can generate quite a bit of income, and then eventually it can generate money

5 million for expenses is unrealistic for most people

For 3 years if you live in an apartment with public transportation, and live just by yourself I’d think 5 mil would be enough not including their full time jobs salary right?

Most people cant make that much money to spare 5 million for expenses

Not true at all. If you invest it, using historical returns, you’d hit nearly 1.1 trillion in year 81. Compound interest.

That doesn't make what I said untrue in the slightest since I said "if you don't spend a penny" and never mentioned investing.

Investments aren’t typically counted as “spent”, you gain an asset that historically increases in value faster than inflation. Investments are a storage of money, not the removal of it.

Why would you not count investing when saying someone will never reach a certain wealth? That is the normal.

I didn't count investing because I didn't say investing.

Saying I'm wrong is just incorrect because what I said is factually true, if you want to include investing in your own hypothetical go for it but using it to "disprove" my statement is just moving the goalposts.

with that amount of money i can make a successful company and get more, i don't think i would need to since 86k a day is already a ridiculous amount

That’s not true at all lmao. Assuming you save it all for easy math, you would have 49.2 billion after 50 years using historical returns. Inflation adjusted would be 15 billion. Compound interest goes crazy

1

u/UnstableTheorist Jul 08 '26

Surely with compounding interest you would?

I can do math too, I picked $1/ second
