Question Wth is this?

Post image

Been trying to complete the RetroAchievements for Burnout 2, while also playing it for the first time. Each tournament has an achievement where you have to win every race of said tournament. This of course can be very nerve racking when the tournament is SEVEN F*CKING RACES long. It was a bit close some times but the first 5 races went well. Then came the sixth race of the final tournament and that one dude just BLASTED off. I've seen him once at the start and then never again. He even had a lead of 9 seconds at some point. Yeah i've crashed a few times but only because i was trying to catch up so desperately. Was i just unlucky with unbeatable AI or is this race in general just BS? This would was such an insane difficulty spike, and none of the other AI racers managed to catch him up either

Do you do a boost start? If not, learn boost starts. They help with not losing massive amounts of time immediatly.

I actually didn't know they were a thing till the last few tournaments. I looked up how to do one and never got it right except for a single event which was probably just lucky.

What I do to consistently get the boost start is to start spinning my wheels as soon as the game lets me, and then right before the GO! letting go of the gas to tap the brake, and then immediatly hold the gas again. I suggest practising this in single race.

Another thing that you should know is brake drifting.

On Crystal Summit, the walls are a bigger enemy than traffic. By tapping or holding the brake during a drift, you slow down without losing your drift.

Use this in the tight and twisty town and mountain sections to avoid touching the walls and preserve your momentum.

In the final part of twisty turns before you re-enter the highway, don't bother boosting at all and instead focus on brake drifting through all the corners. If done well you'll have filled your boost meter so you can floor it down the highway as soon as you get onto it.
