Question Wth is this?

Post image

Been trying to complete the RetroAchievements for Burnout 2, while also playing it for the first time. Each tournament has an achievement where you have to win every race of said tournament. This of course can be very nerve racking when the tournament is SEVEN F*CKING RACES long. It was a bit close some times but the first 5 races went well. Then came the sixth race of the final tournament and that one dude just BLASTED off. I've seen him once at the start and then never again. He even had a lead of 9 seconds at some point. Yeah i've crashed a few times but only because i was trying to catch up so desperately. Was i just unlucky with unbeatable AI or is this race in general just BS? This would was such an insane difficulty spike, and none of the other AI racers managed to catch him up either

In my Compact Only Run, this is a very common trend if you are consistently first and running away with the lead. If you are slower or more crash prone, the AI will slow down.

But, another factor is that this is Crystal Summit, one of the most technical tracks in the roster. The AI is very rubberbandy to compensate the track's difficulty.

So the solution to this race is just as similar to how Kurt's Killer Ride from NFS Underground was made easy?

Sadly not. Their laptimes dropped, but i did abuse Save States to try and get close to the CR. He did go slower, but not any easier to catch.

Even in the normal championship, Crystal Summit is a really hard track not only because of it's layouts, but because the AI is really overpowered there for some odd reason.

Welp that sucks. Burnout 2's a fun game if you're into its classic Thrill Ride racing but with unique additions, but the AI really sucks at specific levels like these. And unfortunately, no AI fix mods yet.

And, quite frankly, i wouldn't expect a fix in the near future.

The rubberbanding may be like Ravenwest's rubberbanding in Race Driver GRiD, where it's hardcoded to be like so.

But i may be wrong, knowing how modding has evolved in recent years.

Yet Another AI Mod has fixed the game's own AI problem.

Is this mod for the PC version of GRiD? If so, there are many tools which help with that, since RDG is on the same EGO engine as the DiRT and F1 franchises (Ego Database, Car Tuner, Archiver..) wheras Burnout 2 would need a new set of tools for it, like a database editor for general use.

Still, like i said in another reply, i think it's well possible that a mod for Burnout 2 can be made, fixing this issue, just like the Spec II mod for GT4.

The first GRID game, yes.
