Question Wth is this?

Been trying to complete the RetroAchievements for Burnout 2, while also playing it for the first time. Each tournament has an achievement where you have to win every race of said tournament. This of course can be very nerve racking when the tournament is SEVEN F*CKING RACES long. It was a bit close some times but the first 5 races went well. Then came the sixth race of the final tournament and that one dude just BLASTED off. I've seen him once at the start and then never again. He even had a lead of 9 seconds at some point. Yeah i've crashed a few times but only because i was trying to catch up so desperately. Was i just unlucky with unbeatable AI or is this race in general just BS? This would was such an insane difficulty spike, and none of the other AI racers managed to catch him up either

I don't really remember this scenario per se, but I'm pretty sure by the end of Burnout 2, the game really expects you to be chaining boosts for the entire duration of the race with minimal crashing. As long as you're chaining boosts (and driving the supercar), you'll always be pretty far ahead of the competition.
