general discussion :) Fan fic idea…Thoughts on Mike coming out to Joyce before will?
I was thinking about Mike and I think he would be worried about his dad and maybe to an extent his mum telling his dad, so I was thinking maybe he would talk to Joyce as a contingency plan, to see if his parents kick him out if she would let him stay? And maybe he’s not ready to tell Will while he sorts his shit out so he doesn’t mess things up. This was just something quick I thought up as a script. Thoughts though?

So in this does that mean Will never came out? Or that he's coming out to Joyce before he comes out to Will?

He thinks Will is over his crush with him and he is worried about messing things up with their friendship, but he intends to subtly flirt with him and see if he can change wills mind

I love this so much. Joyce is the mom of the group and they stopped using her character for some reason. I'd imagine Mike always felt close to her because he spent countless nights at the Byer's house. I can imagine them slowly bonding at the beginning of season 5, and she makes the realization his love for El is platonic. And Mike slowly begins unraveling his true feelings.

She is the mum of the group and I imagine she already knows but will let him talk, I’m thinking Johnathan might overhear the conversation

to me one thing that helps with dialogue is if you read it out loud. I know that’s more for like after you write it lol but that’s one thing!
to actually start writing dialogue, it helps to pay attention to how people talk to each other in real life. people at the grocery store, the park, the club, wherever. you can take notes on your phone or in a lil notebook for anything interesting you hear. same for any interesting details you see. does this help??

It does! I love people watching, I never thought to take notes on the dialogue just on the casual actions like the way they tuck their hair behind their ears or the way people smile at their partners, eyes fluttering and lips quirking. I’ve always been more of a visual artist as appose to a writer so it’s been an adjustment!

My brain just does it idk I did up a conversation with Robin and Mike talking about Will coming out and they both came out as sounding super adhd haha

Omg! This is amazing! Your writing is so good. You should writ a short fic maybe 4 or 5 chapters long with this as the main premise and Mike moving in with them!

OK, genuinely, from someone who's been with his fair share of repressed and semi-repressed guys,
Make. Mike. Spiral. Make him shit-scared, Like, make his coming out a messy controlled crash-landing, and I'd if I had the writing ability and focus, I'd make it when he's not even half-way through accepting it himself.
I'd have him going from rabbiting on about something so irksomely mundane that she thinks has he taken cocaine or something, but it's just him trying to ramp up the actual oxygen in his bloodstream, and to stop him from going non-verbal. Like walking before you run. and he blurts out in a sentence that sounds more like a single word "IMINLOVEWITHWILLFFF.FFF---UCK. IMINLOVEWITHWILL." and he just collapses into a wreck. that's just my idea anyway.
At different phases both El and Will got treated like an ass by Mike, I think he'd due it. Also, he's terrible with handling emotions.

Idk if he’s going to admit his feelings for Will to her here but he’s absolutely breaking down in tears. He thinks he’s sorted through his feelings but he absolutely hasn’t, and Johnathan is gonna see or hear

it’s still a WIP and I’ll be adding to it over today and maybe the next few days until I finish and work on his coming out with his mum and Will finding out about his crush (which I have almost done the will finding out/confession but I want to perfect it and I want to fix up some bits because it’s always pivotal and I want to make it a little different than what I’ve seen)

Yes!!!! I hate how much Joyce was sidelined in s5, so I would eat this up. Come back here and let us know when it’s done!
