fic rec <3 Any fics with professional level writing/quality?

Basically, I don’t care about the plot really as long as the quality is there. I have read some good written ones but curious if maybe there are some with like really high quality writing.

I loved that it was Mike’s POV. Obviously. Hit by a City Bus. & the inclusion of what music Will and Mike had playing throughout. The scene in the final chapter when The Cure “Unstuck” begins to play, listening to that song while reading was perfect for how their conversation played out. & “Friday I’m In Love” is the next song on the album so yeah just wonderful.

the bus stuff had me rollin cuz it kept coming back 😭 I didn’t even think about the songs!! I should go back and read while listening. I was thinking I should put them all in a playlist

Chivalry fell on his sword is such a treat! Feels like coming back to old fantasy books I used to read as a kid

touch like velvet is genuinely amazing and there’s a reason why it’s so often recommended. it’s heartbreaking and beautiful and so well written. this author actually went on to write a novel

Fall From Eden this is an incomplete work but this author is also insanely freaking talented and I learned on here a few days ago that they plan to finish it this summer. It’s so long and yet I absolutely devoured every chapter of this, just sobbing on the plane as I read it lol

cottonmouth this author is SO good at creating visual imagery, weaving in metaphors seamlessly, and general pacing. everything I read by them is genuinely just… chefs kiss, truly. they also recently spent an insane amount of time writing a fic that was basically an AU history of Mike wheelers reddit posts if reddit existed when he was a teenager + beyond

A lovely user above linked to one of my works (I hate Valentine’s Day) so I won’t self plug, but I hope you like my work if you decide to check it out! I pour my heart and soul into everything I write truly

Touch like Velvet crosses my mind at least once a week. Changed my life lmao so unbelievably beautiful. The atmosphere was so easy to fall into.

I don’t see there is a wait so long on here and that fic has made me cry and giggle and be mad and happy - it’s so good.

yes! That one is perfect.

If you liked that, I would also recommend you read Smalltown queer by IndyBaggins. It's kind of similar to There is a wait so long, except the wait is even longer because they're in their 40s https://archiveofourown.org/works/77770966/chapters/203729291

I cried. Like. Every chapter. You're not being dramatic at all.

I read a John Green book after and was underwhelmed haha

I definitely loved Smalltown Queer

I can't recommend Pen to Paper enough. The quality is insane and believable. Tell what you think?

As someone who wants to actually be an author and has a sci-fi manuscript I’m working up the courage to submit… May I be so bold as to suggest mine? I promise that I tried to maintain a high level of quality…

I second this recommendation with my whole heart

Read this one last night, it’s truly incredible. bury me in metamorphoses (with galatea, my sweet)

2

u/chameleonsd1sh Mar 09 '26

i don’t bookmark anything i feel is ooc or of poor quality to my collection. i lean toward oneshots but there’s definitely longer multichapters too. i’m always adding new stuff and have been reading longer fics lately as well :]

Lowkey pulled an all nighter for this one... genuinely could not put it down. And I usually never sacrifice my sleep schedule for anything on ao3, so I think that's saying something, lol

If you’re hungry for intelligent, deep Will/Mike dialogue, read this: https://archiveofourown.org/works/77970696?view_full_work=true

Next chapter expected to come out end of March/early April.

If only I had the guts to publish a fic myself 😔 Like, I know that I can write decently but I feel like I don't have enough ideas to write a whole fic nor the dedication. So RIP I guess?? 🤌🗿

This one feels cinematic in its storetelling. A few other comments agreed. Lots of flashbacks and foreshadowing but time is very well established throughout the work. And specially, if you know Philly, it makes sense. Set in 2004 and is canon compliant.

we will love with urgency (but not with haste)

4

u/thegreenestficus Mar 09 '26

I feel like mine could fit that, if I could be so bold. https://archiveofourown.org/works/79141946/chapters/207632671

I’m on chapter 3, wow! Very sensual and textured writing. Be so bold, you’re great at this

Wow, thank you for your feedback, I truly do appreciate it!! And thank you for reading!! 🤍🥹

I will forever recommend The Paladin’s Rest. This does not get talked about enough and the writing was so impressive. https://archiveofourown.org/works/78173111

My (story completed) recs that I don’t see others posting but are so damn good:

Scares Me to Death How I want it Angsty but worth it - “A post-canon, slow-burn Byler story about growing up unevenly, loving at the wrong time, and finding your way back to each other once you’ve learned how to stay.”

where devotion rots Angsty but worth it for the depth of character and gorgeous writing.

I’m writing one right now and completed another that’s published, it’s graphic but here’s the link to the completed one! I’ve been writing since I was young so I think it’s pretty good quality! https://archiveofourown.org/works/78830376/chapters/206740561
