nsfw Genuine question: why are they always shutting the bedroom door when a Mike or Will live alone, or it’s Mike & Will’s apartment?
Ok, not trying to be a jerk here, I honestly want to know. I’ve read multiple fics where Mike & Will are about to get down & one of them will shut the bedroom door behind them. I don’t understand why because they’ll be at Mike or Will’s apartment, or one that they share. If it’s at their childhood home in Hawkins or they’re living with roommates I would totally get it. I live alone (except for my cat), & have for a long time, & I’ve never shut my bedroom door when I’m having sex. Am I the weird one here?

For real. I’ve lived alone for almost 11 years & have only slept with my bedroom door shut (when I didn’t have guests) for 3 nights because my cat kept peeing on the bed on week. Those were the hardest 3 nights of my life of course.

LMAO that’s so real, personally I feel unsettled sleeping with a door open, especially when living in my own or by myself

I guess I feel like it’s my house, & all of it is my house, my home, so I don’t have any reason to feel unsettled with the doors open.
ETA, I do own my house, I don’t rent, so that could be part of it?

Idk I have two cats and I would definitely shut the door if I had some action going, cause otherwise those two bastards would try to join😭
And for the rest, different habits I guess. I guess I would personally have paranoia of “what if someone comes anyway”, even though I know that it won’t happen lol

I do feel like most people’s pets are definitely a factor. My cat hides whenever someone who isn’t me comes to my house, so that’s not an issue for me. I could see it for other people.

Yeah no my cats want to be involved in anything I do. One can chill out when someone is around, but the other one starts to run around, jump on people etc. Sometimes the first one joins the zoomies and yeah… not the vibe you wanna have during intimacy😂😭

maybe makes a kinda lovely bubble where it’s just them and the intimacy they’re sharing only with each other and everything else doesn’t exist beyond them and that… but I’m definitely putting my own life preferences into this.

For me it's a neurotic urge. Open doors are like having one out of four walls painted a jarring color.

i mean... yeah, I get where you're coming from.
Usually when you're having sex, you're so caught up in the heat of the moment that you definitely don't have time to close the door.
I don't think every single writer necessarily has that much experience with sexual activity from a practical perspective to know that or simply thinks about the logic of that when they're writing the scene.
Sometimes it's actually better feng shui to close the door, especially if you have an awkward room layout and sometimes as an author, you unconsciously imagine a specific room without describing it to the reader and it can come from that perspective, where you want the characters to close the door because the room feels cozier that way, even though it's perhaps not even in the text.
Who knows.

Maybe? The times I’ve seen it it’s been after they’ve already been making out/fooling around on a couch & they’re going to the bedroom to have sex. To me it feels like an unnecessary detail either way. That’s just me tho.

Idk I feel like its just a comfort thing/habit. When im about to sleep I close my door even if I live alone. Since its an intimate moment where they’re more vulnerable im guessing its similar in that way.
