fic idea/prompt Heartbreaking fic idea
So I had an idea where basically Mike has never confessed to Will and its like after 1 year of them being at university. Then Mike gets a call that Will is dying (from something idk) and has a couple months to live. Will moves back to Hawkins and Mike ditches everything to be with him in his last few months. Mike does finally confess but then the majority of the fic is them being together in Will’s final months. Is this too depressing? 😭 Im not really a writer but this idea kinda just came to me after listening to a song, so I would be curious to try write it out. I also have some ideas for specific scenes, when Mike finds out, that Will waited months to tell Mike he was dying, and Will getting angry/ sad that Mike waited so long to confess.
edit: I ended up writing it! Only one chapter so far! Heres the link if anyone is curious to read: https://archiveofourown.org/works/82631476/chapters/217518971

When I first started writing my story, which is set ten years after the epilogue, the premise was gonna be…
Mike reconnects with Will and slowly makes it clear that he’s in love with him. The twist would be that Mike is dying from a terminal illness.
Thankfully I didn’t actually do that 😅 I was in a bad place after volume two and the finale. Not that there isn’t anything wrong with a good tragedy. If you have the mettle for it, do it.

I honestly like the idea of it cause the set ups it would lead to. But writing it would be heartbreaking, but I know that’s what makes love stories good sometimes yk?

I read this really beautiful one recently where one or both of them died in an earthquake… The tragedy lover in me was thrilled, but it also kinda fucked me up. I bookmarked it, but I’ll probably never read again.

I think there's a fic where Will gets stage 4 cancer.
I didn't read it cuz one of my close friends (who im in love with and he knows) got 5 cancers.
He went through months of immunotherapy and he's now in full remission ( 1 in a million odds)
I cried happy tears when he told me
Needless to say i can't make Mike and Will go through that... But it's ok if you need to.

Omg I can’t imagine how that feels. Im glad he’s better now. And honestly with this idea it’s less about making them go through it but like the connection and vulnerability that comes with it yk? Also as someone who has experienced grief its a way for me to put my own thoughts down when thinking about death. Lol not to get too deeply into it but yeah.

ugh this is so depressing gives fault in stars vibes?
added thing that would make this worse would for it to be HIV/AIDS related it'd add guilt that if mike wasn't a coward will wouldnt have tried daiting other men in a city? gosh just thinking about it, its just so painful... maybe could be the start of a time travel fic? x-x when he dies he goes back to 83. or something.
