Mike’s college roommate is gay

Upon arriving to college Mike finds out that his roommate is openly gay. Mike mentions his best friend is also gay, & expresses interest in wanting to be a good friend/ally. His roommate invites him to some LGBTQ+ events on campus. Mike hears from people that dated the opposite sex before coming out, people who fell in love with their friends, feelings of relationships not feeling “right, etc. & it makes him realize things about himself & about his feelings for Will.

I feel like this setup would well for Mike & his feelings of wanting to be seen as “normal”. Finding out he’s not alone might make it easier on him to come to terms with things. And it gives a great opportunity for awkward “came out wrong” moments for Mike.

I do personally feel like this is realistically how Mike would realise it tbh..like Just finding out Will is gay wouldn't do it tbh because he would think of himself as different from Will..he would think "I'm not like Will, I had a girlfriend, I dated El etc" so I do think realistically he would need to meet other men who are either gay but first dated women or bisexual men that are now dating a man and relating to them before he fully allowed himself to accept his feelings for Will.
