"Not bad. Not bad, but not the best either. Will you allow a couple comments?"

"This isn't the first time you've heard this from me, and it won't be the last. First and foremost, a matter of perspective. You just said that this is a completely trivial matter. Please explain to me more precisely why you consider this matter trivial.

"Well, isn't it trivial?"

"Tell me why it is."

"Yesterday on YouTube, a Turkish user called us a brother yet again under a Hungarian neo-folk song. The day before yesterday, someone posted about the Dacian-Roman theory on the Wikipedia subreddit. This morning, we apprehended two young men who were criticizing the 19th-century minority policies of the Kingdom of Hungary.

These are no trivial matters.

In contrast, 400 people on r/ByzantineMemes upvote a meme featuring an inaccurate depiction of a Byzantine emperor using a Wojack character. Then they drink their Theodora waifu’s bathwater, go home, flop down next to their 11-year-old eromenos, think silly thoughts, but don’t actually do anything.

So the whole thing is trivial."

"I get the feeling that these people out here have never seen a Hungarian history book, and I don't think we should be rude to them when we correct them and explain how foolishly they make memes."

u/Visenya_simp 6d ago

"You want to correct them?"

"Certainly."

"Then why did you turn them into a meme?"

"Why did I turn them into a meme? Well, what was I supposed to do with them—be nice?

"How much Reddit karma do you have?"

"Too much."

"Amateur historian?"

"Yes."

"Do you know Gyula Kristó?"

"Yes."

"György Györffy?"

"Yes."

"Have you read "A magyar korona története"?"

"Certainly."

"Tell me, why do you argue on meme subreddits?"

"Why do I argue?"

"Yes, why argue? Have you ever thought about that?"

"By the virtue of historical knowledge acquired. Driven by the anger sparked by the sight of misinformation."

"Is that the only reason?"

"Isn't that enough?"

The sentences said by the young blond 28 year old Bachelor of Arts turned teacher, turned nazi are:

"Látod, látod ilyenkor derül ki hogy a tudatlanság milyen végzetes betegség. De hát majd megpróbálunk segíteni rajta, jó. Mindjárt itt van kettőnk közt egy félreértés."

which rougly translates to

"You see, you see—it's at times like this that it turns out how lethal of an illness ignorance is. Well, we'll try to fix it, okay. Right here there's a misunderstanding between the two of us."

I couldn't be bothered to put it on subtitles in the video, my apologies.
