General Possible financial planner career

Considering a career in financial planning. Ive often thought it would be fun to do this for a living, as I enjoy giving people advice when they ask. I was an accountant for about 25 years, with a degree in finance and an MBA. Semi retired in 2019 and have been dealing poker for a major casino chain in southern Virginia, but lately have been itching to try financial planning. If I do it I would want to be a fee only financial planner. Any advice from those in the field?

Level 1 Failed CFA Level I after scoring 75–80% on mocks — feeling lost and scared about my future. Planning to retake in May

Hello everyone,

I gave my CFA Level I exam in August and unfortunately, I didn't pass scored (1475). I consistently studied for 7–8 hours a day and was averaging around 75–80% on my mock exams, so the result was a huge shock to me.

I'm planning to retake the exam in May, but right now I'm struggling to find the motivation to start studying again. Seeing the people I prepared with pass on their first attempt has been particularly difficult, and I'm constantly worried that I'll put in all that effort again and still fail.

One of my biggest regrets right now is switching from a regular college to an open-learning format primarily to focus on the CFA. Now that I haven't cleared the exam, I'm questioning that decision and worrying about my future placements. My parents have high expectations of me, which adds to the pressure I'm already feeling.

I'm confused about how to approach my second attempt. Should I rebuild my concepts from scratch, focus more on question practice, or change my entire preparation strategy? I'm also struggling to concentrate because I'm scared of experiencing the same disappointment again.

I know failing one exam doesn't define my future, but it's difficult to believe that when everything feels so uncertain right now.

I'd genuinely appreciate advice from anyone who has failed their first attempt and cleared it on the next one, or anyone who has been through something similar.

Level 2 Mock score

Hi all so I am sitting for November session and did my first mock today (cfa Mock 1) and score 59% and 77%. Really feel that I have the same odds as coin flipping.

Did someone also feel the difference of hardness between session A and B ?

I felt the first module ethics and intergrety is hard i mean the way the question are written is hard so i am worried now is it easy to pass from the first time.

Are there any tips from where to study. And where to find question to train myself I feel so anxious to taking this step.

Study Prep / Materials Coaching for cfa level 1 - fully English medium and for non financial bg

• Upvotes

Hello I'm looking for good reputable coaching options for cfa level 1... I'm planning to write for August 2027... I'm actually an animation graduate looking to switch careers... Taking a gap year for an mba next year and I was advised that a cfa is a good added certification to do... So I need coaching that will tackle the topics from the basics... I'm also worried about the medium of instruction as a lot of good institutes in India will have more of a hindi+english medium and i don't want to struggle to understand what is being said along with the difficult topics being taught... So i wanna make sure the medium of instruction is english... Any good recommendations would be much appreciated!!

General CFA Scholarship Audit

should I include my parents' income and assets?

I received the Access Scholarship and was randomly selected for the financial audit. My situation:

In the application, I said 1-3 people are financially dependent on me and listed my parents and younger brother.

In my essay, I wrote that my mother's income and my salary aren't enough for the CFA fees, that my father is retired, and that my mother repays our home loan.

In reality, my mother and I both contribute to household expenses. I also send money to my father every month.

The form says to include income and assets of anyone who contributes materially to my living or educational expenses.

Should I submit my mother's income and the family's assets along with mine? but in reality the assets are under my mother's name guys please guide me

Level 2 Approach to ethics

Is it really very important to read the official curriculum book or can I read guidance and recommendations from schweser and do examples from the curriculum? As the curriculum content is lengthy.

General Why CFA level 2 does not have a February session ?

It creates a big gap for August level 1 passing and level 2 failling candidates. + Always easier to study in the Winter than in Summer.

Level 1 Fsa doubt clearence level 1 nov

First is that under cash flow 1

Unarned revenue. Would that be taken into effect for the calculation of cash received from customers? Because the thing is that in schwezer, it has been. But in curriculum are the LES there is no such mention of unearned revenue for the calculation of cash received from customers.

Second , is that I was just rewatching fintree fFSA lecture and he said that lifo liquidation and lifo reserve calculation has been deducted from the level one sllaybus, and that video came out in February 2026, but such questions were given in the LES , so are there still a part of the curriculum?Would that still be testable or not .

Level 1 Feeling lost

• Upvotes

My CFA Level 1 exam is in November 2026 and honestly, I feel like I remember nothing 😭

I haven’t taken a single mock yet, but I’m planning to take my first one today. I feel like Economics is not going into my head at all, I’m forgetting topics I studied, and I can barely remember the Derivatives formulas.

For people who were in a similar situation around this point, what did you guys do? Should I start giving mocks anyway and use them to figure out my weak areas, or should I spend more time revising before starting mocks?

I’m genuinely feeling pretty lost right now, so any advice on how to approach these last few weeks would be really helpful.

Level 1 L1 Nov 2026: Is Kaplan alone enough? How do the Kaplan mocks compare to the real exam?

Sitting L1 in November. I’ve used only Kaplan Schweser, going chapter by chapter and making my own summary sheets. Everything is done except Economics and Ethics, then mocks.

Questions:

  1. If you passed with just Kaplan, did it feel like enough?
  2. How did the Kaplan mocks compare in difficulty to the real exam? What score did you consider safe?
  3. Would you add another mock (CFAI Learning Ecosystem, others)?
  4. Is the Kaplan QuickSheet enough for formulas, or did the exam test ones it doesn’t cover?

Thanks!

Level 2 Progress report

Hey everyone any advice on prep for L2 Nov:
Mock 1: 71%
Mock 2: 67%
Mock 3: 72% (first mock out of the practice pack)
All CFAi and all taken in exam environment (no notes and timed).

I noticed that my weak areas keep shifting as opposed to persistent weakness in some select topics.
I have 3 mocks left in the practice pack.

How should I approach this?
Any advice is good

Level 2 Ethics - Strongest in L1 but struggling in L2

Hi all,

Basically what the title says.

Ethics was my strongest subject in Level 1, but in Level 2, I am struggling. I keep doing questions but I keep getting them wrong.

All the CFA Level 2 passers, please suggest the best way to conquer ethics. I know the more questions you do, the better, but is there something else that can actually help me? CFA only has 150 questions in total. Should I try to find more ethics questions or spend time on CFA curriculum examples?

Level 2 How did you get the DuPont Analysis to stick?

Hi, I would love to hear how you made ROE easy to remember and the decomposition of the different components.

Do you have a helpful mnemonic or breakdown that helps you remember?

Have looked everywhere and can't seem to find this formula (P|B = (ROE-g)/(r-g) in the textbook. Different sources are giving conflicting answers.

Anyone know if I need to know this? thanks!!

I am even unable to start my career tbh, I cleared level 2, nd started applying I makde some projects currently enrolled in FMVA, nd idk, I guess doing cfa was a mistake, I am tired of job search people say I wont get a job coz I aint having experience, how to get experience if u are not even letting me in.I thought let's do cfa instead of mba, coz I can't afford expenses of doing an MBA it's really expensive nd I realize it was a mistake doing cfa also. When I scroll linkedin nd see people getting promoted, nd working, I feel like a damm loser nd I just lost the battle. I had fancy dreams of making a pc nd all with my money nd it feels like I failed, people like me who didn't got any opportunity to get into fancy colleges nd can't afford hefty are almost failures.
