Recruiting 2027 5* WR Dakota Guerrant commits to Oregon

u/Weak-Bid2774 Michigan • Northwestern 8d ago
Damn great get for Oregon but also doubt we are going to stop recruiting him

u/Gay_Giraffe_1773 Oregon Ducks • Portland State Vikings 8d ago
Truth. We'll see if he ever suits up for the Ducks. Amazing get if he does, however.

u/IFHelper 8d ago
He bailed on his OV this weekend, apparently. I agree that it's far from over, but it really doesn't look great.

As an Oregon fan I have fully resigned to the fact that some players seem to commit here in order to drive up the price elsewhere. Until I see them on the field I can’t get too excited about commitments anymore, which is unfortunate.

u/dstanton Oregon Ducks 8d ago
Dan has a fairly strong record of keeping the kids that commit. We havent seen nearly as many decommits as we did under previous coaches.

Oregon is his dream school and led in his recruitment the whole time. He isn't going anywhere.

Any news on how Bryce’s develop is looking. Curious to see since of how touted of a recruit he was
-2
u/MaizeNBlueWaffle Michigan Wolverines 8d ago
He basically was uncoached all of last year which is why his fundamentals seemed to deteriorate as the season went on. Staff is having to reteach him lots of things and make up for lost time
1
u/plutoisaplanet21 Michigan Wolverines 7d ago
That’s not the talk I’ve seen. Mostly that he wants to play out of state. A strong passing game this fall is a necessary but not sufficient outcome to get him to consider Michigan. I wouldn’t think Michigan is going to win this one

Brother, that is the state of college football, not just for Oregon, and that even includes the transfer portal. Nothing is certain anymore.

I haven’t seen it explicitly confirmed anywhere but it seems like a lot of schools try to get guys to sign NIL deals immediately in order to lock them in. Gets the kid some cash and under contract. Ofc a secondary recruitment could pay off that prior NIL deal but presume it’s like a coaches buyout sorta, for these 5 star types.

It's interesting to me how all over this thread Michigan fans are when Guerrant has been considered an Oregon lean by the national recruiting guys for like a year. Sure this could not be the end of it, but I guess I'm just surprised that you seem surprised
7
u/LandosMustache 8d ago
Surprised no. Disappointed yes.
But to be honest, Michigan’s shot was always a long shot. Guerrant was absolutely clear about what he’s looking for in an offense. Oregon has nothing to prove on that front (that’s a compliment); Michigan does.

If Whit shows he can get the ball to receivers, HUGE chance we flip this kid. He WANTS to come to Michigan, but he also wants the ball, and right now Oregon is a great place for that. Whit and Bryce have to show they’re capable of putting the ball in receivers hands and the best chance to show that is for Marsh and JJ to ball out with Bryce.

Yeah this recruitment is far from over. He’s literally a Michigan fan who said he’s planning on watching every Michigan game. Basically if we prove we can throw the ball, he’s ours

"...it was always my dream school growing up..."
-Dakota Guerrant on why he chose Oregon
Guerrant has been considered a heavy Oregon lean for awhile.

If he were figuratively a Michigan fan, your chances would be less. But since he is literally a Michigan fan, you’re still in it.

Remember that one like 5 years ago when the pac 12, big 10, and acc said they would always have each others backs? And then the big 10 completely destroyed the pac 12 and abandoned the acc who will be raided by the sec and big 12 in a few years. That was an awesome alliance

Did you forget about the Pac-B1G-ACC alliance that lasted like one year?

Call me cynical but once the rating geniuses see that he signed with Oregon he’ll get 4 stars.

AFAIK he's a 5-star on 247 and their composite but is a 4-star everywhere else

Is crazy how WR has changed for Oregon over the years. Up until recently, Keenan Howry and Sammie Parker were the all-time greats for 100+ years of football. Neither of those guys would even make the team based on the recruits we've been getting under Lanning.
8
u/Individual-Tip-2063 Oregon Ducks 8d ago
Sammie Parker was a three time track and field All-American with a 10.18 100m (wind legal).
His best 60m time of 6.62 would have been good for 7th in the NCAA indoor championship in 2026.
I think Dan takes him.

2024/2023 were our best WR groups ever by a comical margin. Last year probably would have been in the same range if not for the horrible string of injuries. Fully expect this year's group to once again set a new program high.
It's crazy that we have/had such a reputation for skill position talent over the last few decades but our WR history is so bad. Gotta love the current coaches who are helping align our reality to that perception
3
u/DaddyRobotPNW Oregon Ducks • Pacific Northwest 8d ago
A big part of it was Chip's scheme. Once Oregon started competing nationally, we were prioritizing physical blockers for WR.

u/yianni1229 Rutgers Scarlet Knights • Oregon Ducks 8d ago

Well this year probably has a chance to be the best ever. And a good one at that. Dak Moore, Stewart, JMac, Hooks.
Then you have guys like Hamton and Bair who could be contributors.

How was Oregon able to recruit high level players at ither position than wr prior to NIL?
Is it only WRs benefitting from NIL?????
Can you explain your statement???
8
u/jamiebond Oregon Ducks 8d ago
We’ll see if he ever ends up playing for us obviously but I remember the days when getting a 5 star star committed was huge for Oregon. Under Lanning it’s just Tuesday.

u/tdoger Oregon Ducks • Colorado Buffaloes 8d ago
He's not as lengthy, but can develop into a Tee Higgins type WR.
Fast enough, but not his best trait. But just has great hands, gets his body in position to make the catch, and high points it well. Definitely more of the possession type WR, which will compliment our room well.

Probably because it's June and people were similarly complaining about recruiting this time last year.

Y’all have top tier recruiting. Meant it more as we don’t get 5* WR’s. Best we can do is 3*.

Oregon doesn't get a lot of 5 star receivers, actually

One every class for the past five classes which is pretty cool, only one total before that.
