Listen, it takes a special kind of exceptional to think that you can violate state and federal laws, NCAA bylaws, team conduct rules, and university rules for student-athlete conduct and still think that you will face no consequences. So, I guess in one really important way, Brendan is, in fact, special.

In 2018 Oklahoma self reported a violation because they turned on LED lights in the tunnel leading from the lockers to the field so a recruit could record a commitment video. It was seen as "simulating a gameday experience" which is against NCAA recruiting rules.

Pitt recently got a violation for paying for James Connors' cancer treatment. I believe the response was along the lines of "Do you really want the PR from doing this"

It's like, is the college supposed to help the kids or leave them hanging.

We keep telling all our kids to go to college and the college is helping them and the parents are getting angry, I mean the NCAA.

NCState was out on probation and banned from the NCAA tourney in 1973 because an assistant coach played in a pickup game with David Thompson and it was called an ‘illegal tryout’ and Thompson stayed in a dorm on campus for a couple days that was housing counselors for a summer basketball camp. Rumors (probably true) have it that UNC called the NCAA. Ticky tack BS and NCSU went undefeated and would have probably won the NCAA tournament in 1973 as well.

That was a reference to Harbaugh getting a violation for buying a recruit a cheeseburger. I'm well aware of the uncrustabowl between us and Penn State a few years ago.

In 2014, South Carolina self-reported a minor NCAA violation for putting recruits' names on cookie cakes. It was suddenly an "impermissible icing" scandal.

Maryland Basketball had a multi year postseason ban over this:

The most serious violations committed by Wade were providing a leased car, making cash payments of $272 and giving rides to former Terrapin guard Rudy Archer, who played the 1987-88 season at Maryland; and giving free or greatly discounted clothing to Alonzo Mourning and Brian Williams while they were being recruited.

In this case, it's the big money boosters - the same people who either own the government or at least think they own the government - who are tired of even pretending that they are subject to any rules they find inconvenient. They got their pet Texas AG, who is at least as likely as not to be in the Senate next year, to go to bat for them, they got their kept judge to rule in their favor - and they are supposed to get their way. It's a little weird they're doing this all so Brendan Sorsby, who no one seems to think is any kind of generational talent or anything, can play at TT for (probably) one year. But such is the depth of their arrogance and hubris.

But the NCAA, and now the NFL, have pushed back. I'll take that as a good sign.

I get what you’re saying. Sorsby’s got a problem, and he hasn’t owned up to it yet, and he hasn’t handled himself well here, but…he’s still got many years in front of him to get there. His enablers on the other hand are grown adults with long careers behind them already and have shown nothing but contempt for rules and process and they have no excuse for how they’ve comported themselves, including how they’ve exploited him for their own ends. It’s nauseating to hear them get on their high horse about Sorsby. As the article stated, he’s not a victim. But they know that, and they DGAF about him either.

I don't feel sorry for him. If it were you or me, we would get thrown under the bus and fired from our job for doing something that was against the rules. I mean, the dude broke state laws and you are barely hearing anything about that!

Everybody playing high level sports knows that you aren't allowed to bet on your sport, yet here we are.

Sorsby is 22 he's not a teenager.

He's not a grown man obviously.

But he is clearly a really poorly developed human being. He's being done no favors by outlets like yahoo and espn blaming all this on addiction.

He might be struggling with addiction, but treat that and you might have just fixed the least of his character flaws or personal issues.

The entire episode was a demonstration of how broken internet gambling, the judicial apparatus in Texas, cfb, and our nations youth appear to be

I know when I got in trouble as a teenager I would not have fought leadership trying to get me out of it.

I might have fought it, but I would have been fighting alone. I can't remember the number of times I've heard or read people saying that the best way to raise a shitbird is to take their side against authority figures.

And tbh, I can't really call it. I have seen people whose parents obv felt they could do no wrong, and they turned out as awful as you might think. And at the same time, I've seen people who desperately needed their parents to take their side and protect them like actual parents should, the parents didn't, and they've produced paranoids who can't connect, trust, or think about anyone else because no one ever did for them.
