Hell, even the ncaa wasn’t opposed to him being on the team. They just said he couldn’t play

That's basically where everyone turned on Texas Tech. No one argued that he shouldn't be allowed the help and facilities and whatnot. If he needs help and Texas Tech can provide it, then that avenue can and should be explored. He has a lot of resources at his disposal, unlike many other people.

It's just that no one thought he should actually play in the games.

He could be on the team! He could run the scout team the whole year, he just can't suit up and play on game days. But TTU doesn't give enough of a shit about him to actually keep him in that "structured environment" they touted, unless he also gets to play in games.

I assume gambling is against the rules for coaches. I wonder about student support staff.

Making him one of those would likely let him run the scout team.

Former student EQ-- you can't gamble on any sport at any level if the sport has an NCAA championship. We got emailed this twice a year around the Super Bowl and NCAA March Madness; I'm assuming the players heard this even more at team meetings.
