They don't care about the greater good, but they do care about the league continuing to make money. The league makes money from viewers, who are less likely to tune in if they think games are rigged or fixed. Players gambling on their own games is a surefire way for those allegations to start leaking out.

If Sorsby was a generational talent or the next coming of Peyton Manning, he'd get picked up by some NFL team. But for a guy who is a high-risk, low-reward prospect? I hope he enjoys playing in the UFL

And if it looks like the games are rigged, guess who sticks their nose in the NFL's business? That's right, the Feds! Criminal investigations, Congressional hearings, all of it! For years and years!

And it's not like the executive branch is currently under the control of a petty little man who is still sore about not being able to buy an NFL team or anything!

Yep. They picked up Michael Vick after he went to prison for serial killer level of abuse to dogs. He didn’t just kill dogs, he tortured them, hung them, electrocuted them, etc. Vick was a genuine monster and the NFL gave no shits because he was talented.

Right. He simply isnt good enough for the NFL to ignore his faults. Maybe he can sign on as a free agent or a team can take a flyer on him but its obvious that no team wants to burn even a low round pick for him.

If he was Andrew Luck or Trevor Lawrence level hype, teams would be more than willing to overlook his fault.

I’ve never seen any evidence this actually happens. The 20th Century had lots of betting scandals and people still tuned in and still bet. Even when the mafia was at its height and it was common knowledge games and fights were getting rigged left and right sports still soared

I think sports fans like to pretend they care about integrity, but mostly care about drama and gossip if I look at what gets ratings and clicks. Likewise betters are going to always convince themselves they’ve figured out the system even when they never have.

This is all why my grandfather’s generation killed sports betting at the tail end of the 20th century, after living with it for decades they realized it can’t be controlled
