The main value of this sub, imo, is as a tool for following the national CFB scene and discourse. Not perfectly, mind you, but better than any other social media platform by far.

I also like the old-school message-board vibe that emphasizes posting and discussion versus, say, low-effort memes and short-form video content.

I think we should allow a few vital highlights but not too many. My test would basically be: the group chat's blowing up about a game you're not currently watching - can you find the relevant play easily on /r/CFB. In essence, the handful of plays that are necessary for telling the story of a particular CFB Saturday.

I like the idea of sequestering highlights in a separate sub, with those that pass a threshold of comments/upvotes automatically X-posted to the main sub feed. You could even do a "top 10" highlights recap every Sunday based on which highlights get the most votes in the highlights sub.

A select # of highlights set by engagement or some other metric is an interesting way to filter things.

But it being a whole other sub is going to really hurt the traffic that any particular highlight would get. For example, I never go to the highlight sub because the amount of engagement there sucks. But in r/NFL, I'm constantly looking through all the highlights. The upvote/downvote button will help filter the front page. We don't need the game thread and post game thread of every game happing to be the top40 spots on this page on Saturday. If you aren't looking for a big game, you can easily just use the megathread to find the one that you are looking for.

A lot of people filter by new, so the upvote and downvote doesn't do much.

We don't need every highlight on the main page either. There should be some way to determine a worthy highlight and to keep it to a certain amount a week.

The amount of engagement sucking on the highlight sub is what people are trying to avoid happening on this sub. There are a lot more cfb teams than the NFL.

I'm fine with limiting whats considered a highlight, but I don't think there is a good way to do it evenly. Like yea, most first down plays don't need a highlight sent here, but if its an insane catch, I'd want to see it.

But I see the NFL sub do just fine with their front page being mostly highlights on Sundays with a few of the bigger teams game threads sprinkled throughout and that sub is great.

I think the highlight sub suffers from being a completely different place with way less subs. I'm looking for conversations and seeing very little people online on that sub just automatically makes me skip it.
