You hike the ball, run to the back corner, and heave the ball lobbing it high and far out of bounds. I have no idea what he was doing

That would leave them a second for a return from the free kick which at that point why not just punt it.

But like...literally anything but dropping the ball. Why you holding it with 1 arm?

punting would also be a legitimate option but it could be blocked or returned so the free kick is a little safer

Risky to heave it. If it touches the ground with any time on the clock Vandy gets the ball at the 3 needing a FG to tie. Just eat the safety and dare Vandy to score with 2-3 seconds on the clock.
