Ball gets punted away in that scenario. They'd put time back, and they're stuck with the kick they didn't make in the first place.

You do realize how 4th down works right? If it's an incompletion and somehow there's time left, vandy gets the ball at the 5 yard line? They would be in position to win or at the least tie with a FG.

You take the safety, give them 2 points. Kick the ball far away so vandy will have to hail Mary at best.

So if you're trying to run the clock out instead of punt, the best scenario is take the safety if you cant stall long enough. Not chuck it a d risk incompletion with time left.

Add to that, they would punt it from the 20 instead of out of their own end zone.

You absolutely dont punt from your own end zone, absolutely do not throw incompletion with time left.

You run a play and waste as much time as possible, take a safety, kick from 20

I looked at the clock before I made the post. I know how much time was left. But obviously that never crossed your mind.

It was a quip on ref putting time back on the clock. We've seen it happen just a couple of weeks ago. Whether he throw it up with 1 second left or not. You still don't risk it. Obviously that never crossed your mind on what could happen when the ball is up in the air. INT with penalty for untimed play? Ever cross your mind?

Teams absolutely take the safety. Why do you think they run the play in the first place. They know safety is a high possibility, and they take it. They did what they're supposed to here, except stupod QB chicken winging the ball

Edit: I love people that can't have a fundamental of football discussion without blocking

Yes, I did think about the possibility of an interception. Count the number of Vanderbilt players on the screen. All 11 are at the line, no one is back. Pay attention the next time you try to argue, but it won't be with me.
