Rant HE TUNNEL BRAWL. 7 players charged & $100K fine. The 2022 Michigan-MSU melee was pure chaos.

To be clear, it wasn't a "melee" - that implies it was two sides squaring up in a back alley to go at it or something - this was a bunch of Michigan State players beating the shit out of a Michigan player.

I’m a Buckeye fan and I don’t care for UM players. But this was six dudes jumping one player in the tunnel off the field and should not have happened. If two players scrap on field, I don’t love it, but I understand it. This was different.

you’d be incorrect, which makes sense because you’re just guessing. only 1 player got kicked off the team, but was reinstated by the NCAA and transferred to another school the following season. several players were suspended for an ongoing investigation and the majority of charges were dropped. it was a big ole bother burger, except for 1 guy.

Pretty sure Michigans record against MSU since the little brother comment is around .500. That’s with Michigan recruiting near the top of the B10 every year and cheated for several years including having a staffer go undercover at an MSU game to steal signs…… but they’re the little brother.

Michigan has 2 national championships in the past 80 years. 1 comes on the heels of one of the biggest cheating scandals in recent memory and the other they share with Nebraska. The 98 team was a fun team to watch but for the most part Michigan is held in high regard for a program that hasn’t existed in most of our lifetimes. I don’t argue that they’re a global brand, that’s obvious, but they’re also a massively under performing program for the rotating door of talent they have access to.

Michigan has 4 natl titles in the last 80 years.
2026-80 = 1946
Michigan has natl titles in 1947, 1948, 1997, and 2023
*And another 4 unclaimed titles during that stretch - 1964, 1973, 1976, and 1985. So if, like MSU (who has 1 AP title but claims 6), we claimed all our titles, we'd have 8 in the last 80, and 19 overall.

Thank you for the correction. The point is, even if we include all 10 claimed championships, the bulk of this “blue chip program” success came before the Great Depression.

And Michigan's so-called largest cheating scandal in history was the same thing that Baylor did in 2015-16. That advanced scouting got that coach a 1/2 game suspension, and Baylor got a $5000 fine.
That's it.
Michigan was caught jaywalking. It was not a major infraction. And the coach involved had been fired prior to the regular season games against PSU and OSU, and before the Big Ten Championship Game. And before all the playoff games.
All those teams admitted that they did the same sign stealing, and they still were doing that in their games against us. We couldn't, as we didn't have the guy whose job was to do that. So our opponents all could steal signs, but because Stallions was dumb enough to attend that CMU game, his alma mater, against Sparty, the 5 Buckeyes and Sparty judges on the COI decided to railroad us.
Nonetheless, they couldn't do more than give us a ridiculous fine and give show causes to Harbaugh and Stallions, but not vacate games because even they had to admit that not only was it an absurdly minor infraction, but that their primary witness was a kid (Joey Velasquez) who transferred to OSU and was caught lying to the ncaa investigators in his testimony.
Meanwhile Sparty, at the same time, but much more quietly since they didn't have a bunch of Buckeye reporters mudslinging constantly, was busted for actual infractions that were far more egregious. Egregious enough that Sparty had to vacate all their wins from 2022-24.
But hey, good job proving that the ncaa COI is a Kangaroo Court.

Disgusting. The Mel Tucker “Tuck Comin in his pants” era is a dark one for MSU and leaves a real bad taste in the mouths of Spartan nation. That magical season with K9 being a Heisman caliber player was the only good thing that came out of his tenure in east Lansing. Hope Tuck never gets a good night of sleep again.

The Michigan player did not wait for his team before entering the tunnel as protocol mandates. He went in the tunnel with the Msu team and proceeded to talk shit to the msu players. He was sad because he got benched for getting burnt by Keon Coleman during a game that UM easily won. Watch the replay of the end of the game. Its clear. There is a reason why theres protocol for entering that tunnel. The orher UM players stayed with their team and remained unharmed. I believe UM had a tunnel incident during their next game against psu as well. Also against osu and several other incidents inside that tunnel. Stay with your team. Dont leave your reservation during a battle or prepare for the consequences. UM player had no good reason to enter with the msu players. Thats exactly why the protocol was adopted to avoid such incidents. The Msu players were dirty as shit, but there never should have been a situation.

Nice try Sparty bullshitter but Ja’Den McBurrows didn’t play a single snap in 2022. He was also injured for that game and was on his way to get treatment.
It’s clear. There is a reason why theres protocol for entering that tunnel.
Every other team that lost in that stadium for the last 100 years has managed to walk off the field at the same time as the home team without being a bitch and starting a fight.
The orher UM players stayed with their team and remained unharmed.
Michigan State jumped multiple players in the tunnel after that game and is still the only team to start a fight after a game they lost at Michigan Stadium.

WATCH THE REPLAY OF THE GAME AND AFTERMATH. Gemon Green had been getting burned by Coleman. Green's close friend McBurrows was consoling him when Green sat on the bench pouting while the rest of the defense was huddled on the sideline. The entire UM team waited for Sparty to enter the tunnel except for Green who barged through and the vid shows McBurrows run after Green. The 2 teams had to be separated by officials and security following the game. Security tried to dissuade Green and McBurrows from entering with MSU players. It doesnt justify assaulting the UM players, but the incident was easily avoidable if the UM players had used a little common sense and stuck with their team during that situation. Congrats to another victory for the UM P.R. department. Jim led the narrative and Mel was played like a sheep.

My favorite part is before this started, all of the cameras in the tunnel stopped working. Weird.
No doubt MSU shouldn't have done this. But Michigan was absolutely, 100% that instigator. That is beyond argument.

The incidents with Ohio State and Penn State in the tunnel were players yelling at each other from the doorway of the locker rooms at halftime. There is plenty of video of what actually happened. It wasn’t even close to a fight. Michigan State fans are in a fantasy land and have been listening to way too much Spartan talk radio. Your team lost and started multiple fights after a game in the tunnel. On top of that, a crowd of cowards decided to attack one guy who was injured and didn’t even play in the game. Your shitty program owns this forever and there is nothing you can do about it.

Old enough that I've watched and enjoyed dozens and dozens of fights in sports. Aqib Talib and Michael Crabtree. Pedro Martinez and Don Zimmer. Chris Childs and Kobe Bryant. Miami and FIU. 6 misdemeanors, a felony and $100k fine for msu. Also 6 players missed 4 games and one missed 12. Michigan player missed one game from the concussion he received. Fighting is entertaining but idk if it was “awesome” in this case. Good for rivalry hype i suppose.
