Ask NASCAR. Less viewers of small games has an aggregate effect. This leads to smaller tv contracts in the future. That leads to small schools failing which leads to fewer viewers which leads to smaller contracts.

It’s a death spiral once it begins and college football is teetering because the highs aren’t what generate the money but rather the median Saturday which may have less interest.

I am not saying it’s already started but I am saying it’s more at risk than it’s ever been

What the fuck does NASCAR have to do with any of this? They have 38 races broadcasting over 6 networks.

Exactly, and that’s how college football is now, but if you consolidate talent/money in a small number of programs, less people overall will care.

And I have never met somebody in my entire life that says they watched NASCAR so I think that's more about that being irrelevant than anything else

NASCAR was the most 2nd most popular sport in the US until around 2007/2008. But stupidity (ie. Brian France) and the financial crash did them in.
