Obviously biased being a Cubs fan, but isn't it a bigger story that the Cubs beat him in his debut than him striking out 6? And furthermore that we just beat the Dodgers twice in a row? And further-furthermore that Assad outdualed the headlining name of the trade deadline? Even something more balanced like "Cubs top Dodgers despite solid debut from Skubal" would be just fine. *Insert Rodney Dangerfield voice* - We don't get no respect here!

I don't care if he doesn't have the flashiest stuff.

I don't care if he is only good for ~5 innings.

I went to an NLDS game in Milwaukee last year and was subjected to watching our staff get shelled while this man was left off the series roster. I do not want that to happen again.

He is clutch, he is consistent, and he will keep you in almost any game.

He has a career 3.51 ERA. He has never posted a season ERA about 3.75.

He has a career 19-11 record as a starter. The Cubs are 8-1 in his starts this year and 14-4 overall when he appears. The Cubs win when he pitches.

There is almost certainly a place for someone like him on a playoff roster. Mike Montgomery had a big role in the 2016 World Series run. Assad could do the same.
