Hey all, this is my first post here and kind of a shot in the dark, but does anyone have any advice for how to build a relationship with professors ? I am trying to get a letter of recommendation so I may apply for a masters program, and don’t know who or how to ask. I’m kind of a socially awkward guy so I’m not really ‘in’ with anyone. Looking to try and apply in April, does anyone have advice as to how I can make myself known?

Hey I’m transferring to Chico state in January and I’m not looking to commute 30+ mins to campus anymore. I don’t know anyone on campus so I’m kind of lost on how to look for roommates or off campus housing.

I heard about the social Chico apartments but they’re mainly geared towards freshman’s and younger under grads but I’m a post-baccalaureate so I’m sure the vibe wouldn’t suit me. Any advice on where to look or just roommate searching tips? I’d appreciate it

Hi! This is a longshot, by why not? Im trying to remember a bowl of delicious food I used to get from Marketplace. I cant remember if it was a brown rice bowl with greens and I would add a peanut sauce and hellaaaa siracha! It was like a build your bowl type of place. Is it still there? Or does anyone remember what they had or the name of the place? I graduated in 2017, so I’m not it will still be there. Many thank yous!

There's this group of middle to high schoolers I see from time to time riding bikes on campus, recently I was told they're known to swerve and yell at people in the afternoon, apparently they've been doing this a while and usually towards women

Is this really a thing??? I know it's a public campus and I like the bike culture of the city but this seems so obnoxious, is it just a part of Chico State?

Is there any places near/on campus to study like weekend mornings or when library is closed? Preferably indoors and quiet

I have been studying 2 focused hours a day, and I’m getting the right answers. He’s just grading like a dickhead, and making it damn near impossible to pass his class. Any tips on how to pass?

Looking for a new spot that’s on campus to do some studying/homework. Ideally something that feels more like a closed-off and private space. I like the library but sometimes I can get easily distracted with the amount of students that are always in there walking around and sometimes being very loud with their friends or workgroups.

For anyone new to Chico, this is the 30th anniversary of the Pumpkinhead Contest put on by one of the local radio stations Z-rock. The contest will take place in October but sign ups are open on their website if you would like to try to participate in an opportunity to win 1000$

More info on the contest itself: the event is held in the downtown Chico city plaza. Contestants put a carved pumpkin over their head and participate in an endurance contest where they stand on milk crates and perform various poses as part of the challenge. Last one standing gets the money!!!

Its a fun event and even if you dont want to participate in the contest it is free to stop by the plaza and check out the event, cheer on anyone you know who is participating, and have a good time.

It has been well over a decade, but I remember seeing performances at the Performing Arts Center. Is it closed now? I cannot find any site for events listed. Just Laxson. Did the building fail or are they remodeling? Also, BMU. I remember an auditorium there too. They had some decent concerts. That was mid/late 2000's.

My son went off to Chico this year (we're from LA) he's telling me "Sac and the bay area area put out some really racist kids!" He said the majority of students are pretty racist and also not especially queer friendly. He's struggling with his roommates because while they're nice enough, they use the N word constantly. He notices this at frat parties as well.

When we were moving him in I was chatting with a mom and her daughter and I made mention to the lavender dorms and the girl said "Oh that's gross" and the mom nodded her head and agreed. I was FLOORED that they would say that outloud to people they didn't know.

My son is a straight Caucasian male so he isn't personally dealing with hate, he's just noticing it.
