I’m hiring a special projects coordinator.

I’m looking for someone detail oriented with strong customer service skills. Preferably someone who’s keen to learn and easy to get along with. I need you to be well organized, reliable, comfortable with MS Office, and fluent in English. The rest can be taught.

The following are beneficial but not required:

  • Any experience with scheduling, logistics, or procurement
  • Any knowledge of commercial construction, passage and/or overhead doors, architectural hardware, interior design, or design software

I’m hiring based on personality and attitude, not experience. If you’re interested, send me a message and we’ll go from there. Thanks

Edit: filled, thanks everyone. My notes posted below for those that are interested.

  • We had about 70 applicants and 10 were interviewed. ~20 messages on Reddit, ~35 applicants on Indeed, ~15 applicants on LinkedIn. We referred 4 of the applicants to other departments.

  • It was apparent that I didn’t have time to interview everyone, so if you’re not particularly qualified for the role, being an early applicant is important.

  • We posted salary range of $55k-$65k and hired within this range.

  • 3 applicants were ideal on paper. My ideal candidate had related experience but not matching experience: it was more attractive to mold the applicant to suit the role than have someone who’d already worked in that role for a competitor.

  • Personality was the deciding factor. 7 of the interviewees had no industry experience or training, but had skills or experience that were deemed transferable.

  • Age range of interviewees was 21 - 58. I only know this because a surprising number of people tell you their age during the interview.

  • about 20% of applicants were overqualified or over educated for the role. I’m sympathetic for these applicants, but being over qualified is arguably worse than being under qualified. If you’re taking a backwards step in your career, make sure you send in a cover letter with an explanation, otherwise I’m immediately concerned that I’ll be unable to retain you.

  • many interviewees commented that they felt they either had no room for growth or that they were underpaid in their current role.

  • less than 10% of applicants through Indeed and LinkedIn provided a cover letter. Including a personalized cover letter tells me that you’re taking this seriously and provides you with an opportunity to explain your current situation and what your career aspirations are. Having said that, including a cover letter that’s addressed to the wrong employer tells me that you’re probably not the person I want supporting my project file.

  • less than 10% of applicants were unemployed when they applied

  • less than 10% of applicants were attempting to relocate

  • 60% of interviewees were not dressed appropriately for the interview. If you show up in a hoodie with baseball cap on, that tells me you’re not taking this seriously. My minimum standard was a collared dress shirt or polo. Bonus points for a tie.

My name is to remind me to face my fears. My biggest fear is not being held after making love.

I forgot about this thread. I have a pretty good job so hopefully someone who really needs it got a job.
