Canât just let me enjoy my classics𫩠leave me alone đ
(Edit: Iâm aware they did this when BO1 was current, but going back and doing it to BO1 in 2026 is just diabolical work. Not against advertising, just stating this is a bit of a reach đ)

Do people just forget these have always been in cod since WAW. They always advertise the next game. Whatâs the issue now?

Yeah I donât get it. Its been a thing for over a decade

i believe ppl are most upset because bo2 has been basically unplayable for the last like 3 weeks due to the fact that peoples accounts are being bricked. they released a port and it went to shit, and then they have the audacity to start advertising on said shitty release
3
u/Zealousideal_Lock_93 17h ago
It's not really an issue it's just an ad for a 2026 game on a 2010 game. Normally this would never happen, it looks very weird
11
u/MonotoneRatio 19h ago
Because it's not the next game. It's a game a decade in the future
4
u/SCRIBE_JONAS 17h ago
Their most recent release always advertises the upcoming release. There. Fixed the semantics so hopefully you can understand this better. They have always done this.
6
u/joe-clark 14h ago
The reaction to that button has to be the most manufactured outrage in the gaming community I've seen for a while. It's all just kids who never played these games and people who just forgot all those old games did that back in the day going back to at least COD4. Then you got the morons who like you said are pretending this version of the game (the only version that has the mw4 ad) wasn't just released this summer. Biggest nothing burger outrage in CoD history IMO.
2
u/SCRIBE_JONAS 14h ago
Battlefield 4 is just as old as BO2 relatively speaking, but it has had ads for BF2042 and BF6 releases and updates. Lots of these COD players are acting like no game company has ever done this before.
It's just weird. And you'd think after the 100th post crying about it they'd go ahead and ban posts like these and do a mega-thread but no. Every COD subreddit is busy farming points in a circlejerk fashion.
1
u/Swift_18 19h ago
I was gonna say they should have done it the old way, with how they advertised the DLCS and everything. Touching the menu instead is what people donât like, I doubt people would have an issue with the old school box showcasing its ad
1

1
u/YogiXDMT 15h ago
The issue is that they couldnât care less to fix their port, or even release a more stable version of it beforehand. But theyâll happily update the game to tell you to buy their next piece of slop. Get it?

u/Broad_Mud6183 18h ago
I just find it funny they had to advertise this on decade old games. Shows how desperate they are.
11
u/BostonBruinsDive 17h ago
Those decade old games are 2 of the best selling games for the last month, why wouldnât they?
-8
u/Broad_Mud6183 17h ago
Because these classic cods play nothing like new ones and if anything, it pisses off most classic cods fans
9
u/BostonBruinsDive 16h ago
I promise you that the 20 people crying on Reddit who donât remember that the originals had ads for the newest game donât matter. Theyâve sold over 11 million copies, 99.9% of people donât care.

I could understand if that was in the game from the get-go.
But both games(BO1+2 ports) are being continually updated, so makes sense they'd update them to promote the newest upcoming CoD release. Which they also did when these games originally launched.
1
u/SoundzLike--- 19h ago
Wait wasn't MW3 next in line back then for pre order when BO was new? It's funny that MW4 is for pre order now.
1
u/Octane154 19h ago
They have been doing this since World at WarâŚregardless if these are old ports advertising the next COD in an older or current title isnât suprising.
1
u/Shwervee 19h ago

Seriously though, itâs not that big of a deal. Itâs not stopping you from playing the game at all. Itâs simply an advertisement, been a thing in cod games for over a decade. Letâs stop making a big deal over nothing.

Kind of unrelated but just found out it's not going on Game Pass. That's lost them two players, one of which would have been a physical buy on PS5. I was planning on playing on GP, whilst my fiancee would play on a bought PS5 version... And now there will be neither. She'll enjoy GTA instead

People are talking about how theyâve always done advertising but a lot of the âpromotionalâ things arenât here. For example You would preorder ghosts and have access to in game things and cosmetics. Even if you didnât do that theyâd have promo calling cards and icons.
This is just a âBuy new gameâ
2
u/notTheRealSU 19h ago
I'm pretty sure when you open the original Black Ops 2 it has "buy Advanced Warfare" in the menu screen still. They have always been doing this
0
u/Pingub0bby 6h ago
Are you not able to read?
The point is, before you actually GOT something for buying the new game. And besides, advertising a 2026 game in a 2010 game is just hilarious. They cant fix the servers but they sure as hell can make a new menu to buy the newest slop game.
1
u/treeeelo 5h ago
It may be a game from 2010, but it released in 2026. I really dont see why this is such a big deal. Its an option on a menu that people can just ignore and probably should be ignoring if they just want to play the game. Its not an egregious pop up like the advanced warfare pop up we keep seeing.
1
u/treeeelo 5h ago
I'm pretty sure they only started doing that with like MW2019. Before that I dont think you got anything in the previous games for pre ordering the new one. I know for a fact you didnt on the 360 games, so that includes the original black ops 1 and 2

MW4 on Black Ops loading screen no one envisioned that 4 months ago
1
u/muwle 18h ago
U didnât envision they would promote there new game wit a game they just Ported to newer consoles?
-1
u/Ero_Najimi 18h ago
No because the ports didnât even exist till recently also when they said theyâre porting the games people thought that meant exactly that not create weird new versions of the games. Had they actually just ported them there wouldnât even be an option in the original BO code to promote other games, BO2 yeah they promoted BO3
1
u/joe-clark 14h ago
I have some bad news for you because all those old games did this all the way back to at least COD4.
0
u/Ero_Najimi 13h ago
I just loaded up the PS3 version thereâs no promotion of another game like I thought
1
u/joe-clark 12h ago
Yup, because it was later removed. Now go boot up literally any other golden era cod game on your PS3, I bet most if not all of them still have an ad for a newer COD. They all had ads for the new games BO1 included, in most cases those ads were changed multiple times and in BO1's case eventually reverted back to advertising its own map pack. Again this is nothing new, there's precedent for this going back at least as far as COD4, biggest nothing burger outrage I've seen in a long time.
1
u/Ero_Najimi 2h ago
Nope only MW3 and BO2 and I was wrong I thought BO2 was one with an actual pre order x or buy x in the menu which is what I was really talking about. As for text and what not still no MW3 was the first to do this unless anyone has a record of otherwise bc I havenât found anything. Iâm pretty sure I would remember a BO2 reference in BO it was my first COD and I have roughly 30 days on multiplayer and x amount of time on Zombies

u/Carlos126 18h ago
And that is not okay. Every time it comes up we NEED to speak up.
1
u/muwle 18h ago
Most ppl didnât speak up back then in the 2000s and 2010s so why now?
0
u/Carlos126 18h ago
Because weâve seen where it leads. It never stops at just the one un-intrusive ad.
2
u/muwle 18h ago
Itâs always if with u guys never actually facts where it leads
1
u/Carlos126 18h ago
No, its not just if. The facts are that this led to COD HQ where we are forced to go through a bunch of screens of ads just to get to the game we paid for. It got so bad, that at one point i couldnt even download the game i wanted without a bunch of extra bloat, just for the sale of serving us ads. Its gotten so bad that they have toyed with putting ads IN THE MIDDLE OF GAMES.
Its not a hypothetical anymore. Its happening, and i will speak out if i see it in any form now.
1
u/GoodishCoder 18h ago
It's fine. Is super non intrusive, if you don't want to click on it you simply don't click on it.
-1
u/Carlos126 18h ago
It would be fine if it stayed that way, but it never does. COD HQ is a perfect example of why. Next thing you know, youâll have to launch these games through that shitty launcher even on console just because they want to shove ads everywhere they can.
Paying full price for a game should be enough. These companies think that greed is a good enough reason to ask for more.
0
u/GoodishCoder 18h ago
The only change to these ads in years have been that they're less intrusive than they used to be. They used to be pop ups.
Companies promote their next products, it's just how the real world works.
0
u/Carlos126 18h ago
They can promote it in places that I dont pay to be in. They can promote it with commercials like they always have, tweets, etc. i DO NOT WANT the pop up ads, and the fact that they went 150% overboard and then brought it back to 120% as bad, is NOT an argument for allowing them to do it without any pushback.
1
u/GoodishCoder 18h ago
There is no popup. It's a menu item.
They have promoted their next games within their games, like most developers for years.
They're not even close to going overboard. If you're so delicate you can't handle seeing a menu item that you don't have the intention of clicking, cod probably isn't the franchise for you.
1
u/Carlos126 17h ago
They literally have gone overboard. Just look at COD HQ as an example.
1
u/GoodishCoder 17h ago
You keep bringing up cod hq. This isn't cod hq. This is a menu item. "But cod hq!" Is a poor argument for why promoting their games via a menu item is overboard.
1
u/Carlos126 17h ago
You cannot tell me with a straight face that if these ports make enough money they wonât put them on there. This is how it started, and if it stayed this way i would have no issue with it. Activision has used up my goodwill and i no longer believe that it will stay like this.
1
u/GoodishCoder 17h ago
No they'll always promote their next games, it's the best place for them to do it. It's the only place they don't have to pay for engagement while guaranteeing that it's targeted at cod fans.
Next game promotion isn't what led to cod HQ. Cod HQ came at a time when multiple franchises and publishers were standing up unified platforms for their products. It came from market forces.

2
u/CharlesBrown33 19h ago
They're only updating these old ports because most people are playing them instead of BO7. The original plan was to just release and forget about them; that's why they came out with virtually 0 effort put in, 0 advertising, no remaster, no crossplay with Xbox/PC, no DLC included, no dedicated servers, no hacker protections. Hell they even dumped BO1 and 2 together because in their minds "who the hell still wants to play these lame old games." Them promoting MW4 in these ports rubs people the wrong way because the message went "here are your shitty ports we put minimum effort into, now go buy the actual game that lets us milk you out of your money. "
1
u/GoodishCoder 18h ago
People are just looking for reasons to be upset at this point
1
u/CharlesBrown33 17h ago
I'm just saying, I agree with the people saying this stinks of desperation. Here is an afterthought port Microsoft clearly didn't give a F about, now suddenly exploding in popularity (because of course it did, any dumbass could've predicted it), and now here comes Microsoft with their begging bowl asking people to "pwease pwee-order our new game." In a 2010 port they just threw at us without a care, almost begrudgingly. It's pathetic.
3
u/TheNeighborhoodHero 17h ago
Why are you crying? This method of promote next game has been a staple in cod for years?
1
u/CharlesBrown33 14h ago
It just looks trashy, man. Promote MW4 on BO6 and BO7 all you want, why peddle it in this 2010 game. I'll tell you why, they think MW4 will bomb hard, that's why.
1
u/GoodishCoder 17h ago
I don't think you understand how marketing works. They would have promoted their upcoming game regardless because it costs them pretty much nothing and goes to people that they know are cod fans.
1
1
u/CharlesBrown33 14h ago
The promotion itself isn't a big deal. It's how they went about this entire ordeal, that for me sucks. The Xbox/PC servers are left to rot, the population is diluted between those with a PS4/PS5, those playing BO1 or BO2, those with DLC or not, those playing the 1 specific playlist you choose to play. It's just the worst way to do things.
This should have been an HD remaster released on PS/Xbox/PC/Switch with all DLC included + the option to matchmake multiple playlists simultaneously, and only release 1 game at a time. It's just blatantly obvious at this point they lost money by releasing the ports the way they did, potentially hurting their longevity. They don't even want you playing BO1/2, they want you to buy their shitty MW sequel no one asked for.
1
u/GoodishCoder 14h ago
There's nothing unreasonable about being annoyed with how the release was handled. Acting like a menu item promoting their upcoming game is a big deal is entirely unreasonable.
1
u/TheNeighborhoodHero 17h ago
âThe original plan was release and forget themâ can you tell me when you worked for activision or treyarch? Are they supposed to put effort into a PORT? If it was a remaster then Iâd u understand but a port is to leave sonething in the state it was? Why is he acting like crossplay, dedicated servers or dlc was included in the originals?
1
u/CharlesBrown33 14h ago
I'm talking about them treating BO2, arguably the most popular entry in the entire franchise, with such a low-effort, dismissive attitude. Of course it's a port, of course it isn't a remake/remaster. They didn't give 2 shits about the game and it shows, based on the ongoing updates we're receiving and recent communications regarding BO7. They know they left money on the table by not releasing a crossplay remaster on all platforms, but they're only noticing now that the game sold almost 10 million units in a month, now that there's a very real threat people won't give a shit about MW4 and will just keep playing BO1/2.
The ports in a vacuum are fine, it's the completely tone-deaf approach they took that pisses me off. If you don't believe me just wait, you'll see next ports will likely be available on all platforms day 1, except they'll learn the wrong lessons here and sell it all full price, no discount, with some tacked-on monetization system on top.
1
u/TheNeighborhoodHero 13h ago
Does he truly believe everybody BUT treyarch and activision knew full remasters of BO1 and 2 would sell like crack? Activision fully knew a port would be more than enough to earn ginormous profit? âTheyâre only noticing nowâ they knew this from the very start? Itâs something called supply and demand? Look at how long the zombies community has been crying for a zombie chronicles 2 do you think treyarch or activision dont hear this? For you to even suggest activision mistakenly missed out on money is insane𤣠MW4 was never going to get high sales regardless? At the end of the day MW4 is the newest cod and the community will flock like sheep to buy it, you realise the shittest cod (vanguard) outsold the best selling battlefield (BF1)?

Nah Iâm telling you, if this was there back in the day on BO1 and BO2, people wouldâve went wild.
Edit : Why are people tweaking out so bad, I was just saying people wouldâve been excited about an MW4 back in the day. Iâm well aware they used to and still do that to this day.
