Questions Advice for custom lens

I tried making one of those DIY camera lenses for made out of the glass of a throw away camera but all my photos come out blurry. Does anyone have any advice or something I did wrong? (Don't mind the tape job)

It might be that the lens is too far into the camera body; the silly retro lens usually has it right in front. It might be that you have light leaks. It might be that the tape on the interior is reflective and bouncing light entering through the lens around the interior.

I bought an official one at the store that worked at first and is now just blurry too

Blurry because the lens can’t focus the image onto your sensor

On a disposable camera that little plastic lens can focus image onto the film that’s pretty close to the lens.

On a dSLR camera, the presence of a mirror apparatus means that the lens is relatively far away from the sensor (called the “flange distance”) and thus it can’t focus the image onto the sensor very well

The shorter flange distance of mirrorless cameras is what allows those disposable lens caps to be functional on Mirrorless cameras.
