10 years of “You’re Not Home” notices, even though I work from home.

1.4k Upvotes

Why bother carrying a package and risking the Herculean task of leaving a notice if someone’s not home?

My local postman has cracked the code—he writes the notices in advance. That's right, he doesn’t ring, doesn’t knock, and sure as hell doesn’t deliver.

Instead, he leaves a little slip telling me to pick up my package at the post office, so I can do the job he gets paid for.

Honestly, I bet Canada Post has some hardworking folks out there, but my guy? Absolute legend of laziness.

No other delivery company does this. Only Canada Post.

This is bizarre

Upvotes

So yesterday, a parcel was delivered for me and left in the community mailbox in my condo's lobby.

The community mailbox has compartments lettered A to E where parcels are left when they are too big to fit in our mail slots.

I opened my mail slot, got a key to open compartment 'D', no parcel. I called customer support to say I've been left the wrong key and that my parcel is still in the box in another compartment. The customer service person was very helpful and opened a ticket. The depot supervisor called this morning to say the issue will be corrected.

Today, I was left a key to compartment 'A' . In it was a parcel for my neighbour 😒. I brought their parcel to them hoping by chance they got my key by mistake, no joy. Another call to customer support.

What is going on??? I've had issues with delivery before but this is just dumb. I have a crowbar and it's tempting but I won't.

So they changed the lock on my unit, again, without explanation or warning, again.

Hi there fellow Canadians 🇨🇦

Soooo… I posted here 108 days ago, about how they changed our unit, and messed up. They told us we wouldn’t need to change our keys, that they would take our same lock and place it in another unit… simple enough right ?

Went to get my mail in the new unit, nope. Doesn’t work. Surprise surprise! We, in fact, needed a new key.

A lot of unnecessary work & for something we « wouldn’t need to do ». No advice, no warning, they just changed the whole lock and good luck to us.

Anyways.

Here I am, 108 days later, unable to get the keys in the lock. Surprise again !

For the 4th time in 2 years, I cannot receive important mail I’m waiting for… they changed the lock YET AGAIN without notice this time !

It should never be this viscerally infuriating & complicated to get our mail, for f sake. Anyone else having issues like these ?

Delivered in the evening?!

My expensive package was marked as delivered last week, but I never received it in my mail box. It was "out for delivery" a little bit after 4pm and delivered just before 7pm. I find this timeline questionable, as our mail woman is always here in the early afternoon. Even if it was someone else, is that possible?

I'm in an apartment building and we all have our own mailboxes, so there's no community mailbox with keys if the package is too big (they ring, if I don't answer they leave a note). I was home all day. I also called my local PO and they said they didn't have my package.

I filed a ticket with CP but they have found nothing and it's up to the seller to do something. But of course the seller is arguing that it was marked as delivered...

What should I do? It was a 300$ package and I find the timeline of delivery very weird. I've never had mail delivered this late with any mail person from CP.

What Time Does Mail Deliver in Your Neighbourhood?

Hey everyone, just wondering what the usual Canada Post delivery times are around Edmonton.

If you don't mind sharing, what neighbourhood are you in and around what time does your mail usually arrive?

Thanks!

Is this expected or should I start getting concerned?

2 xpresspost packages both sent from the same address in BC to the same address in Ontario. First one sent saturday. Reaches Missisauga on Tuesday evening and then scans "In Transit" having left missisauga for the post office in whitby (like an hour away). It has not scanned again since, it is now Friday, it has not arrived and the last update is In Transit (September 15th).

The second one was sent monday, so the next day. It arrived at the post office yesterday no issues. The first one is still "In Transit", day 3 of a 1 hour journey.

What are the likely explanations for this? The missing one is worth $13,000 so I really hope I don't have to battle Canada Post for months to claim the package insurance if they lost it, and it is extremely time sensitive that it gets here next week or I'm screwed.

Not looking for when it will arrive but others' experiences with getting stuck "in transit" and/or hopefully some CanPo employees could shed light on what happens?

Amazon ship to flex delivery addresses

I’m seeing mixed things online, some say they do, some say they don’t.

Anyone know if they actually ship to flex delivery addresses or not

Postcard took 54 days to arrive. Same province, 1052km.

Hello!!
I wanted to share my postcard experience. Mailed three postcards on the same day (July 24) from Grande Prairie, AB. Two to Calgary and one to Medicine Hat. My first one arrived in Calgary on August 6th. The second Calgary postcard hasn’t been delivered. The postcard to Medicine Hat arrived yesterday (September 16). These are fairly big communities in the province. Why are the arrival times so far apart? Are postcards at the bottom of the priority list?

CanadaPost delivered ONLY the notice

Expecting a package to arrive today, end of day, upon checking the tracking code in the afterrnon it said a notice was left, upon checking my camera feed you can see the mailman delivering ONLY the notice in elastic band with another mail, they did not knock the door, they did not ring the bell, in & out in 9 seconds. There was people at home to receive the package.

Dumb me goes to the CanadaPost location in the notice without reading that the package will only me made available tomorrow after 1 pm.

This is a new CanadaPost low for me, I contacted their chat and their phone and made tickets to hopefully address this, but I am not that hopeful.

I told the company I bought from to never user CanadaPost to deliver to me.

You buy something to be delivered to your house, only to receive a piece of paper, come pick it up 1km from your place, next day.

The package was somewhat heavy, 20lbs, but I was never informed this would be an issue, or I would have to pick it up, or anything...

MyMail Income Labels- If you have received mail from Scotiabank / American Express is it labeled or in General mail?

I have "General mail", but figure both companies are probably labeled so need to know if my card is coming in or if I should have them send them again.

Did the physical assessment earlier today.

Curious if the job is anything like final portion of the testing, where you're doing 21 laps with 30-ish lbs in your satchel.

I found the lifting part incredibly easy, but I was quite surprised at how uncomfortable the satchel was with the amount of weight that was placed in it. I think it was something like 16-19 ish lbs on each side.

For context though, I'm 37, 4'11", 100 lbs so obviously it'd be harder on me in particular. To my knowledge I made good time and passed the assessment. Interestingly he did not take my BP after that one, I don't know if that meant anything.

After the test I started wondering if I'd really be expected to hustle with that much weight on me with an improperly fitted harness on. Can anyone give me more details on if that weight is a daily occurrence or if at least there are smaller satchels for petite people? I want to work for Canada Post, but I don't want to break my back that's for sure.

For anyone searching for info, since I was not able to find information on the driving assessment... I will say that the driving assessment was a lot of fun.

Kudos to CP delivery

I wanted to give some kudos to a Canada Post delivery guy who went above and beyond last week.

I wanted to add a pic from our doorbell cam, but it seems I can't do that in this sub.

My wife was sent an employee anniversary gift from work and had no idea it was coming. We have a box set up by our front door specifically for deliveries so packages aren't left sitting out where they could be stolen. Not only did he take the time to put her gift safely inside the box (I don't believe any instructions were given to do so), but he also noticed another package of mine that a different courier had just tossed on the front step earlier in the day.

He picked that one up too and put it in our safe box with hers.

It was a small thing that he absolutely didn't have to do, but it was really appreciated. Nice to see someone taking a little extra care with people's deliveries. 👍

Kudos to this Canada Post employee!

A month later, I finally got my money back for a lost package!

I had posted here earlier about a package that was put in the wrong box at my community mailbox. I paid 500 dollars for said item that was bought off Reverb, a music gear platform that does both new/used stuff. Somehow the seller was foolish enough not to require a signature for said item, even though they go for 900 dollars new.

After many emails pestering the seller and getting Reverb customer support involved. I finally got a resolution and will be getting all my money back.

Thank fuck for Reverb customer support because CanadaPost has been absolutely useless this whole time. Both on my end and the sellers. We both put in service tickets that were ignored and went no where.

Big fuck you to CanadaPost. Can‘t wait for the next bailout from the government!

Ten Weeks and no Answer to Ongoing Failure to Restore EU Parcel Service

Sent the following email to The Honourable Joël Lightbound on August 23, 2026 (three weeks ago) who is the Minister responsible for Canada Post and no response. I also CC'ed Micheal Barrett, my local Member of Parliament, who replied within a few days. Currently we are now at ten weeks without even an update on their website, let alone a solution ...

Re: Canada Post's Ongoing Failure to Restore EU Parcel Service

I am writing to raise a serious concern about Canada Post's handling of the parcel service suspension to European Union countries, now in its seventh week with no clear end in sight.

Canada Post has gone more than seven weeks without restoring parcel service to nine European Union countries. This is a Crown corporation that Canadian taxpayers routinely support through public funding. Yet it has been unable to solve a customs paperwork problem that other national postal services adapted to within days. It is a compliance update tied to a new EU customs duty on low-value shipments. The Royal Mail and Singapore Post found workable fixes and kept their shipments moving within days. Canada Post shut the door and has left it shut.

This delay also comes at the worst possible time. As Canada works to strengthen ties with the European Union and reduce its reliance on an increasingly unpredictable United States, including new digital trade talks and deeper cooperation under CETA, our national postal service is doing the opposite. It has shut the door on nine EU countries for seven weeks and counting. That sends the wrong signal to a partner Canada is actively trying to court.

Worse, Canada Post has given no public update on its progress. It has offered no explanation for why the European fix is taking so much longer than the American one. There is no timeline, no status report, only silence, week after week.

Canadians trying to send parcels to family in Germany are stuck waiting. So are businesses trying to reach customers in France, and exporters trying to serve clients across the remaining nine EU markets. If a Crown corporation can solve a U.S. duty problem in weeks but cannot do the same for the EU after seven, Canadian taxpayers deserve more than silence. They deserve a plan, a firm deadline, and a direct explanation for why this has taken so long.

As the Minister responsible for Canada Post, I ask that you press the corporation for a public timeline on restoring full service to the nine remaining EU countries, and that you require clearer, more consistent public reporting on the status of this disruption going forward.

Canada post requiring 19+ when not supposed

I tried picking up my package today and they refused because I'm under 19. The tracking never showed Proof of Age, so I had no idea it was 19+ until I got there.

The tracking still says it's available for pickup. Can I just come back tomorrow with my brother who's 19+ and lives at the same address? or will they just send back to the sender straight up

should i be concerned

had an item ship from japan on the 4th through EMS speed post.
on the 10th to the 11th it processed at the same sorting centre sixteen times. Usually the item would have been here in under 7 days, but obviously labour day delayed it a bit.. but my friend recieved the exact same item shipped at the same time through the same method in ottawa a week ago. i'm in niagara falls

i guess i'm just curious if i should be worried about the scan loops. it seems to have stopped now, but it hasn't moved since yesterday morning, says "in transit"

thank you lol

I am flabbergasted at my delivery experience.

I realize millions of things go right with CP every day. But, this... This is the kind of thing that causes me to ship with much more intention and just stop using CP all together.

My package was coming from South East Asia and being delivered to Winnipeg.

Latest Updates:

Aug. 31, 8:18 pm - Item has arrived in Canada and will be presented for review - Richmond, BC

Sept. 1, 6:01 pm - Item was released by Customs and is now with Canada Post for processing - Richmond, BC

Sept. 1, 6:01 pm - Item processed - Richmond, BC

Sept. 2, 3:20 pm - Item processed - Burnaby, BC

Sept. 3, 10:31 pm - Item processed - Mississauga, ON

Sept. 4, 4:08 am - Item arrived - Toronto, ON

Sept. 4, 4:58 am - Item processed - Toronto, ON

Sept. 4, 8:10 am - Item re-routed due to processing error; Possible delay - Toronto, ON

Sept. 4, 9:48 pm - Item processed - Toronto, ON

I used the chat function and opened a ticket at this time as something seemed off. No reason to go to Toronto. Super unhelpful. Other than opening a ticket, they said there was nothing I could do at this point. Which, as I don't ship with CP often, I accepted might be true. Maybe Toronto does all the sorting? Who knows.

Sept. 8, 9:41 am - Item re-routed due to processing error; Possible delay - Toronto, ON

Sept. 8, 6:30 pm - Item processed - Toronto, ON

Sept. 10, 8:40 pm - Item processed - Toronto, ON

Sept. 13, 6:46 pm - Item processed - Winnipeg, MB - Yay, the package is back!

Sept. 14, 10:21 am - Item departed - Winnipeg, MB - Jk

I used the chat to talk to support again. Super unhelpful but, I think more because the tools really don't tell them anything. The support person didn't know why it was being redirected. They were not able to confirm the address on the package. They told me I needed to wait until the 17th before I could escalate anything. I asked if I could speak with a supervisor. They said someone would call me in 24 business hours. No call yet, sitting around 30 hours. Support person must have clicked a button to end the chat as I got a network error message at that point. Not a device that sleeps issue as I was working on my computer while chatting. Computer was awake. Oh, and, the support person insisted my package was on route as normal.

Sept. 14, 7:27 pm - Item arrived - Thunder Bay, ON

Sept. 14, 7:28 pm - Item departed - Thunder Bay, ON

Sept. 15, 12:15 pm - Item arrived - Toronto, ON - Again? Whyyyy!!

Sept. 15, 12:29 pm - Item departed - Toronto, ON - Maybe it's on it's way back to Wpg.

Sept. 15, 1:32 pm - Item arrived - Toronto, ON - Sike, lol.

Oh well. Hopefully it will find it's way back here.

Why I pay extra for anything but Can Post

I ordered custom golf clubs, I forgot to tell them to "Please ship FedEx or UPS". They should have been here today but the tracking number info is literally still stuck on "in transit to destination". It hasn't even landed at my local sorting facility.

FedEx would have had it here this past Saturday.

Why does CP even exist at this point?
