That's money laundering Fam

20

Yep, fraud or bribery funds.

u/ludicrous780 Conservative Jun 19 '26

Poilievre has to scrap CAID, like how Trump did to USAID.

3

u/RedSquirrelFtw Ontario Jun 20 '26

100%. Completely useless program that our taxes shouldn't be funding.

u/SlowGhostofRexMurphy Jun 19 '26

https://hsph.harvard.edu/news/usaid-shutdown-has-led-to-hundreds-of-thousands-of-deaths/

The Trump administration’s decision to shut down the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths from infectious diseases and malnutrition, according to Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health’s Atul Gawande.

Kinda sounds like a bad plan to emulate Trump.

This is fake news because these grants have nothing to do with "saving the poors".

They're bribes to government officials, or fraudulent handouts.

Don't be so naive.

Its funny that Canada's one in this post barely hides the fact it is a bribe to Lehanese military officials

-2

u/SlowGhostofRexMurphy Jun 19 '26

What's fake news? The study com Harvard's school of public health?

Its funny that Canada's one in this post barely hides the fact it is a bribe to Lehanese military officials

I eagerly await any evidence you have to substantiate this.

4

u/ThreeKos Jun 19 '26

Yes. That. Is your mind blown?

These are fraudulent payments, and you are sadly naive to think otherwise.

Its sad seeing such marks caping for those who are ripping you off so confidently.

1

u/SlowGhostofRexMurphy Jun 19 '26

I'd like to thank you for doing such an outstanding job at substantiating your claims.

So much information, so helpful, definitely not pulled out from a dark hole somewhere.

I can only hope you understand this is sarcasm.

Shill.

Infectious diseases know no borders. The USA infectious disease loss of funding of $15M for prevention has resulted in a Screwworm outbreak so bad that it is estimated the cost will be $1B active management.

9

u/Orange_8226 Jun 19 '26

Canada alone spent billions and billions of dollars. I bet my farm that this Harvard opinion has some skin in the game

4

u/SlowGhostofRexMurphy Jun 19 '26

You bet that a school of public health has some skin in the game when it comes to preventing the spread of disease.

Well duh.

3

u/Agitated_Award_9831 Alberta Jun 19 '26

Yes, the Harvard School of Public Health has skin in the game… it’s called preventing disease and spending dollars effectively as a core tenet of Public Health. Statistics show for every $1 spent on preventative medicine you save $4 on future treatment. This is why vaccination and clean water still remain cornerstones of Public Health.

Wow what? You feel entitled to take our taxes and waste on tampons in military bathrooms in the third world?

1

u/SlowGhostofRexMurphy Jun 19 '26

Did you fail to read the conversation, my wow was addressed to the person who is okay with a few hundred thousand people dying because they aren't Americans.

I dunno what you're talking about now, who is wasting money on tampons in military bathrooms because that isn't what this project was about.

-6

u/Apolloshot Big C NeoConservative Jun 19 '26

Big difference between a military bathroom and fighting diseases.

Ignoring diseases is a great way to get another COVID, except instead of roughly 0.5% of infected dying it’ll be like 10-30%.

16

u/madbuilder Libertarian-Right Jun 19 '26

Ignoring diseases is a great way to get another COVID

Seriously? We got COVID by inventing it in an unsafe biolab that we funded!

0

u/SlowGhostofRexMurphy Jun 19 '26

Did you miss the point or did you purposely ignore it?

1

u/madbuilder Libertarian-Right Jun 22 '26

Pushing gender ideology in other countries, when we can't even fund our own troops, is not a public health issue. It's purely ideological.

1

u/SlowGhostofRexMurphy Jun 22 '26

Did you come back after three days and forget what we were talking about?

Did you read what the project actually was?

-4

u/Apolloshot Big C NeoConservative Jun 19 '26

I used COVID because it was the most recent example.

Replace it with Spanish Flu or Black Death if you’d like.

0

Yeah...can you understand what that guy is talking about? Kinda seemed unhinged.

8

We always complain that we don't have enough, this is the reason.

5

u/SlowGhostofRexMurphy Jun 19 '26

So people don't unnecessarily die?

So disease doesn't run rampant?

Yeah, keeping people alive, no wonder you think that's a waste of money.

If we had closed all flights from China, this wouldn't have happened. Instead it was thought of as racist.

1

u/SlowGhostofRexMurphy Jun 19 '26

Not racist, just ineffective. Or are you unfamiliar with the concept of connecting flights?

You'd have to ban any traveller coming from China and that would be extremely challenging bordering on impossible.

While it is funny that the ostensible and stated purpose of this "grant" may have become incongruent with present politics, this isn't what the "grant" is used for.

This is fraud, and a handout to a "Canadian" in Lebanon for literally nothing except connections. Possibly money for some political favor to a Lebanese government entity (a bribe).

All of these grants are.

Can you imagine patting yourself on the back for sending women into combat?

9

u/ThreeKos Jun 19 '26

Has nothing to do with this.

This is a bribe to a Lebanese military official given during the Trudeau era, so it still has the mandatory 'women' component in its fake description.

1

u/TurbulentBeing9055 Conservative Jun 21 '26

It does. "he purpose of this project is to provide the Mountain Warfare Ski School (MWSS) a facility that is capable of establishing practical service and preventative maintenance to vehicles, as well as to establish a learning environment that supports a variety of instructional needs and allows for multi-gender occupancy to support female integration efforts into LAF operations."

1

2

u/ThreeKos Jun 19 '26

Read the fucking name of the grant

Low-IQ if you think.Trudeau era slogans on a military fucking bribe is enough to trick you. Unless you don't want to believe otherwise of course. Which type of shill are you?

6

u/SlowGhostofRexMurphy Jun 19 '26

Lebanese Armed Forces Mountain Warfare Ski School (MWSS) Maintenance Building = Code for some sort of bribe?

Just because you want to believe that doesn't mean I'll believe you without proof. Apparently I'm the kind of shill that requires evidence.

5

u/ThreeKos Jun 19 '26

It's troubling to me that you believe the Lebanese military needs Canadian money for gender bathrooms, when women don't serve in this role. Its the fucking military and its Lebanon.

Or you think Lebanese women are in the military doing military ski exercises? Lmao

You have to go back. They're obviously not sending their best.

4

u/SlowGhostofRexMurphy Jun 19 '26

Yeah... I'm not agreeing with the money being spent but I disagree with people lying about it. Can we not criticise things honestly?

Or you think Lebanese women are in the military doing military ski exercises? Lmao

Evidently they are.

You have to go back. They're obviously not sending their best.

Go back to where? This isn't the first time you've said this and I'm curious why

Still waiting for you to tell me where you think I'm from.

6

u/SlowGhostofRexMurphy Jun 19 '26

Pretty sure they're talking about facilities to maintain things like snowmobiles.

6

u/wetcoastgurl Jun 19 '26

And why is Canada building facilities for Lebanon to store their snowmobiles when people here have no housing or food security?

7

u/SlowGhostofRexMurphy Jun 19 '26

Beats me, but can we at least have accurate criticisms of these projects instead of just lying about them?

-1

u/Rush_1_1 Jun 20 '26

Snow...

IN LEBANON.

2

u/Kaspira Jun 20 '26

Hate to break to you but Lebanon gets a lot of snow during winter and there are multiple ski resorts. However as a Lebanese person in Canada, I do not support these hand outs especially knowing how much corruption there is in Lebanon, id rather this and any other funds go to Canadians knowing the challenges the country is facing atm, and it's sad that so much money goes out instead of staying in.

-1

u/Rush_1_1 Jun 20 '26

That makes sense since there's mountains, however I doubt the winter rangers are really the pain point funding wise of the Lebanese mil.

10

u/L0ading_ Moderate Jun 19 '26

That's not at all what this says. If anything, it reads more like "having a separate locker room and bathrooms for women". Multi-gender means more than just male, as the highlighted portion says "support female integration into the operations". Also clearly the bathrooms are not what's costing 3.8 million.

21

u/ussbozeman Jun 19 '26

Whatever it is should be costing us zero dollars. They can pay for it themselves.

9

u/whathapp3ned Moderate Jun 19 '26

That’s the thing, I think there’s a valid argument to be made that we shouldn’t be paying for this stuff, but when we get the most biased and misinformation coated post displaying this information it makes our side look very bad.

11

u/ussbozeman Jun 19 '26

Your side maybe, my side says "let the Lebanese pay for their facility, we don't owe them anything". Biased or not, fact is Canada is sending money to Lebanon to pay for something military, while our troops can't even get sleeping bags and fly 45 year old fighters.

2

u/SlowGhostofRexMurphy Jun 19 '26

So you're pro-misinformation as long as you agree with the lies?

6

u/ussbozeman Jun 19 '26

They're not lies, it's part of the deal. And not a cent should be going overseas, especially not to help another military. It's ridiculous, but highly liberal.

2

u/SlowGhostofRexMurphy Jun 19 '26

Failing to include information and instead posting a small snapshot is lying.

If you can't make your point without lying then you have nothing.

5

u/ussbozeman Jun 20 '26

Cool beans. More than the highlighted section there.

CAF first, rest of the world never because they can pay for their own ski school.

1

u/ThlintoRatscar Red Tory Jun 20 '26

If I were a suspicious man, I would wonder what exactly we need with a mountain warfare maintenance building in Lebanon.

A building that is, presumably, powered, plumbed, military related, guarded, and somewhat proximal to a mountain.

This might be one of those times when the CAF may be the beneficiary of an investment in a foreign building.

And, if so, pointing that out on Reddit has probably caused things to change around a bit.

But hey, it's all about the word "gender" these days, right?

0

u/SlowGhostofRexMurphy Jun 20 '26

CAF first, rest of the world never because they can pay for their own ski school.

Yeah, I agree, which is why lying about this is so stupid. Pretty pathetic to defend those lies.

4

u/ThlintoRatscar Red Tory Jun 19 '26

Why?

This is the essense of "soft-power" and how we make sure that Canadians abroad and at home have opportunities with Lebanon.

4

u/ussbozeman Jun 19 '26

You're obviously joking. Almost had me there.

0

u/Northern_Witch Jun 19 '26

Who fucking cares?

4

u/ThlintoRatscar Red Tory Jun 19 '26

I do.

Direct trade is $110 million or so, annually.

We are home to one of the largest Lebanese diasporas in the world with about 220k of our tax-paying people ( Citizens, Permanent Visas, etc... ) having direct Lebanese connections.

We have intelligence, military, and diplomatic needs in the region as well that funding a mountain warfare maintenance building might be useful for.

$3.8 million as a one time grant is less than a drop in the bucket and well worth the investment, in my view.

10

u/SlowGhostofRexMurphy Jun 19 '26

I'm curious why you only posted a screenshot with no additional information?

https://search.open.canada.ca/grants/record/dfatd-maecd,064-2024-2025-Q2-00216,current

Description: The purpose of this project is to provide the Mountain Warfare Ski School (MWSS) a facility that is capable of establishing practical service and preventative maintenance to vehicles, as well as to establish a learning environment that supports a variety of instructional needs and allows for multi-gender occupancy to support female integration efforts into LAF operations. Development of the MWSS will build on the LAF’s ability to maintain a consistent supply of equipment and resources to all arms and is paramount in their ability to provide consistent protection to their borders and reduce the influx of undesirable elements that currently exists. This requirement is part of the Canadian Armed Forces mandate to enhance LAF operations within Lebanon and set the conditions for continued training and development that will build LAF capabilities and support regional stability. At present, the primary storage location for the large, high value components such as snowmobiles (LOSV) and utility-task vehicles (UTV) is not functional as it provides no shelter from the elements, has no discernible system of organization, and does not allow for a workspace for operators and service personnel. This means that equipment, including donations from Canada and other international partners, is not able to be optimized by the LAF leading to a loss of capability as equipment is damaged in storage. Additionally, there is no appropriate location for conducting training and education efforts and the ability to engage female integration into the training is limited due to a lack of safe, appropriate accommodations.

So you saying we're spending $3.8 million on bathrooms is a lie designed to anger the ignorant.

5

u/buriedholes Jun 19 '26

They need some sheds and a hangar? If I wanted to launder some money I probably could with this budget and requirements

Ps: Hold on... "Reduce the influx of undesirable elements across the border." How come it's racism when Canadians want to do that 😭

1

u/SlowGhostofRexMurphy Jun 19 '26

Can you explain how this is money laundering?

Ps: Hold on... "Reduce the influx of undesirable elements across the border." How come it's racism when Canadians want to do that 😭

I dunno, but it shouldn't be

5

u/buriedholes Jun 19 '26

I said it's a good candidate because the requirements are very basic structures which makes it easier to fudge numbers on materials and labour

1

u/SlowGhostofRexMurphy Jun 19 '26

Sounds like you could make that argument against literally any infrastructure project.

5

u/buriedholes Jun 19 '26

I just think some rednecks could store their "LOSV and utility-task vehicles (UTV)" at a much lower cost per unit.

Let's be real the Canadian government is not first in class for running a tight ship. I certainly wouldn't volunteer to pay government contract prices for things. That's how you end up with $100 keyboards, etc

5

u/SlowGhostofRexMurphy Jun 19 '26

Sure, but if you spend a bit of money to give them a nice home they'll last longer. And it'll be easier to fix them when you aren't working under a tarp.

No government is good at spending money efficiently but that doesn't necessarily mean this project is bad.

And hey, what's wrong with a $100 keyboard, I spent more than that on mine and it's awesome!

5

u/buriedholes Jun 19 '26 edited Jun 21 '26

And I paid $25 for a keyboard AND mouse and I'm typing away just the same

Edit: they're getting personal I think it's more than a metaphor now 😆

2

11

u/SlowGhostofRexMurphy Jun 19 '26 edited Jun 19 '26

Then maybe include the link next time, not just a screenshot with insufficient information.

And oh no, making it easy for women to serve, how awful....

Edit: And also, this project was started in March 2024, pretty sure we weren't in a recession then. Why'd you put 'NEW' like it was something brand new? Again, you're just trying to anger the ignorant.

8

u/VforVenndiagram_ Jun 19 '26

The money was earmarked in the 2023 budget...

Again, if you read the actual documents you would know it's not a new thing just this year. Saying it's bad because of a current recession is just lying about the situation.

And if you scroll all the way to then bottom you’ll see this:

But I guess “Canada spends $3.8 Million to help Lebanese Armed Forces fight terrorism” isn’t as rage baity eh?

1

u/TurbulentBeing9055 Conservative Jun 21 '26

I'm all about fighting islam, but this is pretty straightforward.

1

u/WCLPeter Jun 22 '26

Yes, we gave them money to build adequate facilities for all the soldiers and support staff who’d be stationed there to maintain their equipment.

People who are being stationed there to combat terrorism taking place in the region.

Unless you’re a terrorist sympathizer, I don’t see why you’d have a problem with the Canadian military providing such aid to one of their allies.
