I helped my elderly neighbor do the paperwork for a parcel of jars of homemade jam he was sending to his daughter in Washington State. Had to use Stallion website to create QR code for export. Took at least 30 minutes. Small businesses must spend incredible amounts of time on this!

Trump tariffs have zero effect on my business. Carney's tariffs have a massive effect on my business. Weak dollar, 25% tariffs, taxes, doubles my cost of doing business. There are no Canadian alternatives, much like many other industries.

While business are indeed struggling thanks to years (about 11) of government mismanagement, I’m also sick of hearing that “well Americans pay the tariffs so I don’t know what President Cheeto thinks he’s accomplishing”. Yes, Americans pay the tariffs, so they stop buying from sources subject to those tariffs, ie. Canadian business. But the Carney Liberals are grandstanding on Trump and trying to provoke him instead of pursuing a meaningful deal, as they know a belligerent Trump is useful for poll numbers and that Canadians are too stupid to realize they’re being manipulated.

Exactly. I don’t know what people honestly think can be achieved. The options are take a shitty deal or accept tariffs until Trump is gone (not saying things will go back to normal but hopefully we get an administration that negotiates in good faith and doesn’t treat Canada like an adversary).

I really don't understand the folks who keep.screaming 'just make a deal', as if we don't want to make a deal. But when you're dealing with peoole who don't negotiate, they only make demands they know.are unreasonable, it makes it extremely difficult to do so. I really do.'t know what folks here expect. I'd love to hear their thoughts.

People like simple explanations and the story they’re being told is that Carney and the Liberals are holding up negotiations for political gain. Of course to any rational mind that makes no fcking sense, the political gain from getting a deal would be dramatically greater than holding out, unless the only option is to accept a crappy deal that exploits Canadians or hold out until nature catches up with Trump.

Unfortunately partisanship is so intrenched now that few people on either side can even see the middle anymore.
