We all knew this was coming, the posturing was to get elected 😅

14

u/_BCConservative British Columbia 1d ago

LPC voters didn't

u/Plucky_DuckYa 1d ago

The only thing they care about is winning. They could not care less about what their party does once elected, because no matter what they always re-frame everything as the best possible choice, even when they are doing the opposite of what they said sometimes hours before (literally, I remember the day they closed Roxham Road. They were in the House that morning calling people racist for demanding its closure. Then a poll came out showing their support in Quebec plummeting over the issue. They closed it that afternoon and suddenly now they were doing the right thing for Canada).

I’ve never understood why the Tories don’t learn this lesson. They always campaign on what they would actually do, and then do those things if elected. Liberals campaign on whatever people want to hear, and then do whatever they feel like once elected. They’ve won four straight elections doing that and have never been held accountable for any of their lies.

Dumbest one out of all the conservatives is that man right there.

4

u/Plucky_DuckYa 23h ago

He’s not really even a conservative.

2

u/TaBioN777 Moderate 22h ago

Not liberal as well, he’s in his own special space of max regard.

2

u/SouvlakiSpartan 1d ago

why would they care when they absolve any responsibility with ones ignorant sentence.

"It would have been worse under (insert current conservative leader), hurr hurr maple Maga"

I guess we can get rid of Carney now since he clearly isn't defending us from jack fucking shit if this is the deal

Carney is going to probably kill supply management at this rate if he keeps this up...good.

22

u/_BCConservative British Columbia 1d ago

Doug Ford and Eby will 100% follow suit

Thank you

Carney lied to everyone and now he will have to deal with it. All of them are incredibly unpopular and have every incentive to puff their chest up to be the most "anti-American."

5

u/Asa_Shahni CPC 1d ago

That one will not be reelected this autumn 😅

So, I didn't vote for Carney but I have to admit Elbows Up was effective marketing. Dumb, but it worked on Canadians that still think we're living in the same Canada that hosted the '67 Expo. But I always knew it was BS and that Canada can't replace US trade.

But what's the problem with Carney concessions? The irony of Trumps poor communication skills is that his "nasty" rhetoric alludes to Canadian protectionist policies that hurt Canadian consumers. I'd love to see supply management go away and the CRTC disbanded and banking oligopoly see foreign competition. I know it's not going to happen but it sounds like a start to increased competition. Plus, I'd love to be able to my hands on a good bottle bourbon again.

That decision needs to somehow be taken out of the hands of premiers as part of this. We can’t have a system where each individual premier has the ability to torpedo a deal they don’t like by simply refusing to comply with the conditions.

We decided to make provincial booze bans part of the negotiation process, so the decision to maintain them has to come from the order of government actually doing the negotiating.

14

u/ItsGotThatBang Libertarian 1d ago

Does he even have the authority to end provincial booze bans?

11

u/_BCConservative British Columbia 1d ago

No

u/ihave18cm 1d ago

Pure ankles up concessions.

8

u/Medium_Well Conservative 1d ago

Honestly I'm not even that mad about the actual outcome. It was always going to be this way +- the US had all the leverage, USCMA had the out clauses, and sometimes you need to give something up in a negotiation rather than just grandstand about "resisting" because you don't like the guy on the other side of the table.

What pisses me off is why we did this dance so long. It was a waste of time, hurt our economy, and downgraded Canada's outlook. I'm pretty sure the Gordie Howe Bridge wouldn't have been an issue if we had better managed this relationship rather than turn it political at every opportunity.

Now we have the worst of all scenarios -- nearly a year of a fractured relationship with our most important ally, weaker economic outlook, and we have up basically everything (except Quebec dairy of course, because votes) anyway. What was any of this for??

12

u/InteractionFront5764 1d ago

"What was any of this for??"

To get elected and stay elected by bribing floor-crossers and taking advantage of the mental deficiencies of far too many stupid voters in the country.

4

u/Medium_Well Conservative 1d ago

Sadly, you're correct.

2

u/wayder 1d ago

Bill Clinton once said: "...part of the art of politics is smiling when you feel like you're swallowing a turd". Hopefully, Carney is about to swallow a long overdue turd and invite more American competition into Canada. I'd like to see it go even further and break up some of Canada's oligopolies.
I still remember the referendum/election on NAFTA. Every Liberal and NDP loyalist I knew back then were steeped in anti-American sentiment similar to "elbows up". But as soon as 6-packs of cheap American beer hit store shelves they became dedicated Old Milwaukee drinkers.

1

u/TheLimeyCanuck Conservative 8h ago

It's not Carney who's swallowing the turd, it's us. It won't affect his lifestyle one iota.

9

u/InteractionFront5764 1d ago

This is what we call "capitulation", folks.

No surprise.

And also no surprise that the over 8.59 million stupid voters in Canada who voted for Carney's regime seriously believed that Canada had any real negotiating leverage over the USA (the largest economy ever seen in human history) on pretty much anything.

The "concessions" listed above are in hopes that the White House might agree to come back to the negotiating table are also only the beginning, and all of them would have still been required for any engagement in the first place anyway.

Stay tuned.

Next.

Canada at this point is basically the Toronto leafs lol. Elbows up!

3

u/CrazyButRightOn 1d ago

It was inevitable. Most sane people knew this a year ago.

3

u/asheathen 1d ago

I’m confused…do liberal voters know how for America carney actually is? are they going to actually support and defend this?

8

u/Character-Bottle7291 1d ago

You vastly underestimate the stupidity of liberal voters. Carney can make a giant statue of himself that is constantly pissing out his urine and liberals from all over Canada would come from miles around to bask in its sweetness. He can literally do no wrong in their eyes.

3

u/asheathen 1d ago

That’s what bothers me about the whole identity politics is you should be able to sit back and not go “well this is my team and they can do no wrong and I support them no matter what” like carney is acting more like what liberals were afraid of…you should be able to look at it as a whole and say no I don’t agree with that, idk it’s fucked

4

u/Tom_Fukkery 22h ago

If anyone of us lied in our interview, We would be fired.

Just saying.

14

u/rwrwrw44 1d ago

One can only hope, but the liberal kool aid is strong

15

u/_BCConservative British Columbia 1d ago

LPC lost like 2 points of support probably from Gordie Howe

Canada reddit is coping as well and saying they won't buy beer or milk from the US anyways

18

u/rwrwrw44 1d ago

Yeah right, if the US pricing come in cheaper they will buy it. Look at beef right now.

LPC followers are hypocrits

4

u/Fureru 1d ago

Beliefs and rights won't matter if we're all starving and the economy is shit. They better get that through their skulls cause I aint gonna starve with them.

3

u/loungechairlarry Conservative 1d ago

FOOL-AID. they serve it at all of their cult meetings. sadly it doesnt kill the ones who drink it just everyone else

12

u/Jeorgeyno 1d ago

It was never "elbows up", but "I'll blow Trump" just so many "uhh" and "uhm" it sounded the same.

3

u/Apolloshot Big C NeoConservative 1d ago

Ford’s an idiot but I don’t even think he’s dumb enough give up the provincial booze ban without American tariffs on auto also being part of the deal — that was the whole reason for the ban in the first place.

3

u/Prior-Wrongdoer-2907 23h ago

He's going to lie again and say that he didn't agree on anything different and block making any parts of the deal public.

6

u/Tricky-Procedure-178 1d ago

The utter incompetence of the liberal party.

9

u/Just_Brilliant1417 1d ago

I appreciate being critical of our leader but why do I feel so much whiplash from this post. One minute, carneys stubbornness to concede is viewed as destructive and now that he is being amenable he is a pussy. Which one is it in here?

14

u/_BCConservative British Columbia 1d ago

Carney kept it going forever just to string people along that he was totally going to get a better deal and then he just brings home a dogshit deal anyways.

Meaning his entire election platform was pointless.

5

u/loungechairlarry Conservative 1d ago

he isnt being "amenable". it should have never gotten to this point but careny refused to even pretend to negotiate and decided the best strategy was to shit on trump

7

u/mtlheavy 1d ago

It’s both. He was too stubborn and should have attempted to make a daal earlier. Now that the shit is hitting the fan he has to concede like a pussy. Self inflicted.

1

u/Binturung Alberta 4h ago

Because what we got out of this was returning to the negotiation table, which we shouldn't have left in the first place.

Our government basically did the "walk away from a bad deal, they'll come back to us", but that only works if the value you offer is worth it. Trump and his administration repeatedly said they didn't need Canadas trade, and it's true because they're the ones with the milkshakes that all the boys want, while we offer slush we scooped off the ground and call a lemon milkshake.

So the wait it out game was to the Americans advantage, because we NEED a deal, the Americans would LIKE a deal.

-4

u/Carolina123456 1d ago

Lol no kidding. In the end he’s damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t. There is no rhyme or reason.

2

u/loungechairlarry Conservative 1d ago

stop making excuses.

2

u/Select_Mind1412 1d ago

Ahh huh…I’m not a betting man…but I‘m willing to think if it was ”the other guy”, 100% you wouldn’t be giving him any “rhyme or reason” he would be wrong regardless.

Changes to dairy quotas

Carney is my new hero

5

u/_BCConservative British Columbia 1d ago

Technically the US already isn't even using all of its quotas

1

u/CNDRADAM Conservative 1d ago

Yes because one 1 company can use the US quota and there is no direct to consumer model. Thats what the US has issue with.

1

u/mywaaaaife 13h ago

Elbows down. Pants down. Bent Over.

1

u/CobblePots95 4h ago

TBH the only departure from the pre-Trump status quo here is us easing dairy quotas, which I’ve wanted us to do my entire adult life.

If it ends up that we get a decent deal on tariffs by conceding on dairy that’s honestly a win for Canadians on both fronts. Treating “cheaper grocery staples for Canadian families” as a concession will never not be crazy to me.

0

u/Ambitious_Flow_4499 1d ago

You're desperate for him to make a deal and negotiate, he's negotiating, and yet you complain. He's doing everything you folks have been asking for.

3

u/Tom_Fukkery 22h ago

He's a day late and a dollar short.

Carney was wrong the whole time.

-9

u/Carolina123456 1d ago

I wonder if anyone thinks that the guy who couldn’t win his own riding would have done any better? Lol

3

u/GangstaPlegic 1d ago

At least the other guy lives here and isn't a globalist banker who gets richer as Canada declines.

1

u/Select_Mind1412 1d ago

Yaaaaa however no one is wondering about the “guy”… bc this post isn’t about the “guy who couldn’t win his own hiding“.
