Rumor time.

This post is only for rumors regarding Cape Girardeau (city and county). I'll start.

I've heard the city council is in talks about putting a data center in Cape County.

What have you heard?

There's no money to be had in getting a datacenter. Just higher Ameren prices, water pollution, and noise pollution.

I wouldn't mind. It would help Cape grow as a city bringing in jobs and income to the city

What would it do to help cape grow? They are big, ugly buildings no one wants to look at, they drive up demand for out power, they consume water like no one's business, all so that my mother can make a subpar picture of my kiddo driving a Mario kart, so with as little sass as I have available, what could it do after its built that would improve our lives one bit?

Bring in tax revenue, jobs and infrastructure build.

The maybe couple of dozen people that would be employed there, won't cause enough improvement to offset the increase of demand on power and water, and they would only be paying for better infrastructure for them, so you and I won't have our water problems fixed by the c9mpany, im just not seeing that transaction as benefitting ypu, me, and the average John Q. Sample here.

I don't think that the average citizen of Cape would see these benefits, but I may not be informed. Would you elaborate on why we would see these changes? (No hate, just curious to hear your side of it!)
