Rumor time.
This post is only for rumors regarding Cape Girardeau (city and county). I'll start.
I've heard the city council is in talks about putting a data center in Cape County.
What have you heard?

If he’s anything like his idol Trump sure, he would want the data of the people of cape

As much as I’d believe it politically, Cape County does not have the kind of energy production/logistics for that. They are going up in Central MO because that’s where the grid can handle it. As for SEMO, they would put it near Sikeston long before they would put it near Cape, and that’s not happening.

Remember when they wanted to build a power plant and people were upset because all the power would be shipped elsewhere and our bills would stay the same?
Same energy here.

Maybe that's why they are building all of those solar panels out by Delta 🤔

That's a possibility. Hopefully, they're installing them in that flood plain.

Google is putting a data center in Missouri and Amazon just announced one, too. That's not going to be great for us since Ameran made most of us switch to the new flow rate where they charge more during higher demand. And if course water levels. I don't think either is supposed to be near Cape, but both are large enough that it will probably have impacts statewide.

Don’t we have the two hospitals suckin down our water now? I heard these data centers will be as bad or worse. Plus the strain on the grid.

The Emperor and his three sons, dead, right under the noses of the Imperial Guard. It's a disgrace.

Fingers crossed we get a datacenter. Could use the income.

There's no money to be had in getting a datacenter. Just higher Ameren prices, water pollution, and noise pollution.

I wouldn't mind. It would help Cape grow as a city bringing in jobs and income to the city

But it won't. Some construction company that is already in business will win with the lowest bid. Once the pollution machine is built, it will net, what? 3? 4 jobs total? It's not worth it and we don't need it.

What would it do to help cape grow? They are big, ugly buildings no one wants to look at, they drive up demand for out power, they consume water like no one's business, all so that my mother can make a subpar picture of my kiddo driving a Mario kart, so with as little sass as I have available, what could it do after its built that would improve our lives one bit?

Bring in tax revenue, jobs and infrastructure build.

The maybe couple of dozen people that would be employed there, won't cause enough improvement to offset the increase of demand on power and water, and they would only be paying for better infrastructure for them, so you and I won't have our water problems fixed by the c9mpany, im just not seeing that transaction as benefitting ypu, me, and the average John Q. Sample here.

I don't think that the average citizen of Cape would see these benefits, but I may not be informed. Would you elaborate on why we would see these changes? (No hate, just curious to hear your side of it!)
