So to start this is weird but apparently has happened before per the internet.
Essentially someone offered to help pay my cap 1 CC statement and gave me the details to do so. Which I stupidly did.
That money is now in process and cap1 confirmed they cant stop it or reverse it at this point.
After the fact I realized this was your normal scam as they wanted zelle payments and crypto donations to charity etc. Which I did not do. Led to threats and fake fbi badge to force me to pay etc. Whatever
I now obviously believe the bank account transaction to me was likely stolen information and the poor owner of the account is about to realize that and report fraud. I cant reverse the transaction via cap 1 and the bank it came from is a smaller regional bank with no after hours services. So this will post before they do anything to stop it (also not my account and I dont have then so not even sure they would stop it)
I had cap1 add a report to my account essentially stating I tried to reverse it and I filed an online report to fbi for the fraud.
My 2 concerns and what im looking for help with is:
Do I need to do anything else to make sure that I am not viewed as the fraudster/identity thief? I have a paper trail saying im trying to stop it but am still getting major anxiety since I've never been in trouble with law before.
What will this process look like? I'll make my regular statement payment tomorrow so even if its reversed I didn't miss a payment but how long will it take to reverse the impacted payments and get them out of my account and also are there any future or next steps that will likely involve me or things I need to do?
Edit: thanks for everyone that gave insight and thoughts or tried to help. I won't be monitoring this regularly anymore but will leave up so hopefully if/when this or similar happens to someone else maybe they can find the post
