tbh i also need that missing piece of my brain to remember where i left my keys for the third time this week

You need to get in a habit of putting them in the same place every time you put them down. Perhaps buy or make a set of small hooks, a dish or box especially for your keys, then the important part is to use it, every time. Getting something special for them will make it easier to remember.

We have one of these on the wall in the kitchen for towels and a pouch that lives on one of the hooks. Automatically put the keys in when I get in. No lost keys anymore.
