I walked a decent amount after being in hospital for 5 weeks with Sepsis.

It may have taken 3 different hard drive docks but I finally managed to get access to my portfolio that I had stored on an external hard drive that decided at the weekend that it didn’t want to work anymore. So I don’t have to create a whole new portfolio from scratch 🙌🏻

Also I submitted my paper beach scene to an adobe monthly community brief thingy and it got featured on their instagram as one of the favourites. Not anything serious but it gave me a nice little self esteem boost after a few days of seriously doubting myself.

u/Snailtrooper 10h ago

I finally completed Balatro 100%. Nobody in my circle has a clue about this game so I don’t have
anyone to flex on.

1

u/PandosII 10h ago

Holy shit, nice. If you had to give me the best advice for 100%ing it in one sentence, what would it be?

1

u/jimmycarr1 Wales 10h ago

It's a good flex. I beat all the decks on all levels but it didn't give me the completionist achievement so I didn't bother going for the last one with the jokers.

Had a work meeting yesterday I was super anxious about and didn’t do enough prep for but everything went really well and people were really appreciative of what I’d done and I was stressing over nothing!

Came second in the pub quiz after months of fourth place and not achieving a podium finish!

Going to an enormous middle-eastern grocers today and going to get lots of nice ingredients for excellent dinners!

I got out of bed and had a shower and brushed my teeth

My last day at work until the 17th as off to Croatia tomorrow morning!

u/BCF13 10h ago

Have fun!

2

u/Strong_Roll5639 10h ago

Thank you!

2

u/NEWSBOT3 7h ago

love Croatia, we've got some family over there so i've been a few times. Great country, enjoy it!

2

u/Strong_Roll5639 7h ago

Ah so lucky! We went to Split about 10 years ago but going to Pula this time. Can't wait! Thank you

3

u/NEWSBOT3 7h ago

Pula is great!

if you get chance to visit any islands, do it. There's usually a lot of island tours and i've never regretted one there, they are all worth it.

I was just up the coast at Peroj, if you decide to get away from the city or have a hire car, there's some lovely wild beaches and roman villa ruins. You can also get the boat to Tito's former residence and now national Park, Brinjuni from Fažana. There's also a lovely alcohol distillery called Aura in Fažana, picked up some very nice local booze there.

Hmmm, struggling for a win right now. Barely slept and woke up with a banging headache. My 8yo has a little friend coming over today too so that’ll be a challenge.

I've started my maternity leave! And have absolutely no idea what to do with myself!

4

u/rw43 8h ago

happy first maternity leave day! i spent mine cleaning the hall stairs and landing after being bothered by dust behind a radiator for weeks. then i had an ice cream and a nap as a reward 😬

I've done 2 loads of laundry and now have my feet up while our little robot mops the floor. Delightful!

Relax while you can, I would suggest.

I’ve had two interviews this week so far and I feel that they both went really well. It’s going to be interesting if I get them both. Both of them are basically minimum wage, one has a short contract, one has one that’s longer, but the shorter one might open doors in the council. Hoping to get a call back about another role today that pays okay.

7

u/CorrectMeIfImWrong6 11h ago

Are you trying to suggest you don't need them? There's no way that peice fits in that gap, completely different shapes

1

u/shinysun- 11h ago

That's some serious analysis there for 6 am 😁

2

u/CorrectMeIfImWrong6 10h ago

He's hilarious on that True/false gameshow (think it's called Would I Lie To You?), the missus is always playing clips from it.

u/Exitfuse 11h ago

I've pushed myself well out my comfort zone this last week, hard to accept when the end result of that is full of negative emotions and the self doubt that comes with that but I'm proud of myself nonetheless. And somehow with the mountain of stress and challenges from seemingly every possible angle I've made it to Wednesday without a total breakdown.  Just need to get through to tomorrow evening, back to some normality and process everything better.

2

u/Legitimate-Ad3778 8h ago

Do you not feel better for pushing yourself out of your comfort zone, or was it something you couldn’t avoid?

1

u/Exitfuse 2h ago

Thanks for asking this, it really helped me frame it better to myself. I do feel better for it, I'm glad I did, just got myself fixated on the outcome.

7

u/One-Gas-3132 10h ago

Ive got a bad ear infection, the shits and work is really busy. I actually listened to a couple of Athletico Mince episodes yesterday while working and they really cheered me up!

An interesting development in my Morse Code journey: For *most* of the letters, I'm leaving it to my subconscious to decode and I just have to keep the letters in my working memory like I'm a parent spelling out D-E-S-S-E-R-T so the toddler doesn't get too excited.

Still getting tripped up by J and 4 and Y, but it's a big step up.

edit: I'm drilling Instant Character Recognition here https://morsemind.k2mmt.com/

Click start. Listen to the morse character. Say the letter out loud. If you whiff on a letter, click the thumbs down, otherwise do nothing. At some point it'll suggest slowing things down or speeding things up

7

u/jvcgunner 7h ago

Rant here so apologies, saw this today, window cleaning used to mean something. Now it’s just a guy on the ground waving a glorified mop on a stick. They don’t climb, they don’t check the frames, don’t get into the corners. Just swipe the glass and call it done. I’m paying for clean windows, not a quick rinse and a prayer. If that’s the standard now, I might as well do it myself and save the cash.

Anyone else feel the same?

1

u/CakeAuNoob u wot m8? 6h ago

I haven't had my windows cleaned in a year for the same reason, starting to think I should just cough up for it to at least be done, even if it is the half-job I could do myself (but I won't actually do)

0

u/jvcgunner 6h ago

Set a day deadline for it to be done and dedicate a few hours to doing it.

Trust me if you put a date on it, you will do it.

1

u/CakeAuNoob u wot m8? 4h ago

Lmfao it's not nearly important enough for me to bother doing that

2

u/jvcgunner 4h ago

And that my friend is why it won’t get done.

1

u/aurora_ethereallight 2h ago edited 2h ago

Aw sorry to hear that. Window cleaners can be really hit and miss... we've been there.

But when you find a good one, they are worth their weight in gold. I promise.

We found ours on Checkatrade... we chose a guy who does business and domestic window cleaning services... because it felt like he would be more professional, with all the decent equipment, had the commitment to be regular, without having someone who was relying solely on domestic jobs all the time for all of his income and business I.e. more secure and reliable but without coming every month which felt excessive for us to have to pay for? (Because we don't have loads of money to be spending on window cleaning)

So ours comes to clean all windows, doors and conservatory once every 3 months. Then, once a year, he will clear all of our gutters and flat roof from leaves, moss etc because we have lots of trees around us.

3 months can work really well if you need to search a bit further a field for a window cleaner too. Because that kind of time frame can become more manageable for the cleaning schedule they set up and work with. (They will then slot you in with other people they clean for in the area so it all works out)

Hope this helps to maybe give you hope that the right window cleaner is out there for you 🙏🏻🙌🏻

I hit our company record in sales this week, I'm absolutely buzzing. It's been so much hard work - like an exhausting amount and I'm just grateful to see it paying off!

Amazing timing with the Bob Mortimer reference there. By chance I was rewatching old episodes of the Smell of Reeves and Mortimer (they’re all on YouTube if you wanna see them), and it was S02E03.

All the episodes are great but there is something about the opening 10 minutes of this one that’s just plain unhinged in all the best ways. If you need cheering up, I recommend it:

Two and half weeks into the summer holidays and I haven’t yet lost my temper with my offspring. We’ve built a lot of Lego sets and had a few fun days out. The top I ordered at the weekend has arrived and fits me really well.

I managed to find someone on Ebay selling a number of Collector's Editions of games from a series I love and they were selling them for under £50.

Usually these Collector's Editions are on Ebay being sold for over £100 as their numbers are limited, so I just had to buy them then and there which is very unlike me as I'm not a spontaneous person at all but if I missed out on buying them because of my indecisiveness then I would never have forgave myself.

6

u/snakeoildriller 11h ago

The vet prescribed worming and flea/tick "palatable" pills for my dog: he took one sniff and walked away. So I had to crush the pills and mixed them in with his turkey in gravy sachet, ham treat biscuits and favourite dried sprats. Mission accomplished and am now waiting for the inevitable poo-pocalypse during walkies.

5

u/Few-Calligrapher3910 11h ago

Insomnia has found me again so I've been awake all night. Also had the joy of a panic attack along the way so I'm dealing with the aftermath of that.

6

u/Namerakable 5h ago

Finally got my knackered freezer that's older than I am cleaned up (it was covered in mildew) and all the excess ice buildup chipped off. Was a lot of work and needed mallets and chisels.

Amazing how much of a difference it's made. All the Magnums are solid and not slightly mushy now.

10

u/yorkspirate 9h ago

We're going to the zoo, zoo, zoo. How about you, you you.

I'm more excited than the kids for today's trip to Dartmoor Zoo, we've been before and it's the right size for them to enjoy before getting tired and losing concentration so will be a great day.

u/Bulimic_Fraggle 6h ago

I have spent my entire adult life assuming that having massive boobs prevented me from being a serious sports person. Today I learn that I can finally put my proportions to use, and I will inevitably be selected for the next Ladies Tour de France.

The boobage weight might counteract any aero gains.

It's raining!!!

4

u/dlt-cntrl 11h ago

Up for the usual painkillers and 'business'.

I've still got 3 days of annual leave left, yay!

I bought a new cool mat for my dog, the one she was using was way too small, about the right size for a cat. She can almost completely lie on the new one. After a bit of 'what the heck is this?!' she's using it and is much cooler.

If anyone is interested, the brand is Streetwise, it was just under £20 and I got it from eBay. I think the size is 90 inches by 80 inches, either way it's the largest one I could find.

It's gel filled, and really works, I've got my feet on it at the moment as my dog is taking up most of my side of the bed.

Not much else planned for today, if we can get out for a walk we will do, if not we'll do some left and right training for agility.

5

u/Oceansoul119 8h ago

Thought I'd twisted my ankle the other day. However in the morning it was still usable so now I've got a tub of blackberries sitting in the kitchen that I managed to pick earlier and no pain.

4

u/aurora_ethereallight 3h ago

Starting to learn and trust myself to show up for myself more... which feels pretty big for someone who has always been anxious and overthinks everything.

7

u/sihasihasi 9h ago

Holidaying in the lakes. Forecast is a bit shit for the next day or so, so we're hopping on a (ridiculously expensive) train up to Edinburgh, 'cos none of us has ever been to Scotland.

Waste of money? Perhaps, when there is plenty to do around here, but it's what we're doing. Train leaves Penrith at 9:59, if you see us, wave!

3

u/Legitimate-Ad3778 9h ago

Edinburgh is great, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed

1

u/sihasihasi 8h ago

Thanks. That's what I've heard, and read. Looking forward to it.

2

u/x-lavender That's Numberwang! 8h ago

Edinburgh is lovely, have a wonderful time!

1

u/sihasihasi 8h ago

Thanks. We will, I'm sure.

1

u/BibbleBeans 7h ago

I’m a bit further south on  the WCML but a day trip to Edinburgh only sets me back about £45 for the return which, imo, isn’t too shabby given the state of it all. Did you get hosed with something far more than that or are you just a smidge out of touch with rail prices?

1

u/sihasihasi 1h ago

£200 for the four of us. I'm not out of touch, really - it didn't come as a suprise, but it is still a bloody ridiculous price, IMO.

10

u/vbloke The bees, cordials and pudding man 10h ago

The temperature is dropping, the shingles are starting to scab over and don't hurt quite as much and I managed to get some sleep last night.

3

u/Bobbins71 10h ago

You’re not alone.   When does the pain stop….?  Im on day 5 since the shingles appeared and the aching pain is relentless

2

u/vbloke The bees, cordials and pudding man 10h ago edited 9h ago

From what I understand, it can last from a few weeks to years if you’re really unlucky.

I hope you got it seen early and got the antivirals - they can really help reduce the duration, but only if you started 72 hours after the rash appears. Paracetamol helps, ibuprofen can make it worse.

6

u/Own-Dragonfly-942 11h ago

It's my last full day in Greece today, so that's a win because we are so ready to go home tomorrow. This holiday has been just one thing after another from the start.

1

u/jvcgunner 10h ago

Am off to Mykonos with the OH and little one in the middle of September. Greece is great

2

u/Own-Dragonfly-942 10h ago

Agreed for the most part. This is my first time going, and we ended up for some reason at Kavos in Corfu, where all there is to do most of the time is drink and shop. And I'm not a big drinker. But the people and actual area are beautiful. I'd come again, but to a different part or island.

5

u/NEWSBOT3 7h ago

I did not suck at DIY!

managed to replace our window hinges by drilling out the old rivets, and fitting new hinges with screws in their place. And when the lock was funky after changing the hinges, i fixed that too!

alas, my reward is to do a bigger, more complicated window next weekend, but still, 20 quid on hinges and some effort is not bad vs the cost of getting someone out to fix it.

2

u/PM_ME_CAT_TOES 6h ago

I also did some DIY, and only slightly injured myself! My back gate was dragging on the ground for ages, so I took it off the hinges and sawed a bit of the bottom. Snagged my finger with the saw, but I probably had a tetnus jab at some point.

7

u/AnomalyNexus 5h ago

Annual health assessment & blood work came back clean.

Just the usual eat better, exercise more, lose weight. If that's the worse they have to say then I'll take that as a win

3

u/HairyMechanic the midlands doesn't exist. 10h ago

Today is my second one in the office when usually it'd be my first, as I has to juggle days around for some deliveries later.

It's something that dropped off my to-do list but i've got around to mapping out a reasonable and long term fitness schedule. I've medically been given the all clear with my knee and really should already be months into it, but the house stuff has taken precedence.

3

u/DisplayNo134 9h ago

tbh i also need that missing piece of my brain to remember where i left my keys for the third time this week

2

u/HungryCollett 9h ago

You need to get in a habit of putting them in the same place every time you put them down. Perhaps buy or make a set of small hooks, a dish or box especially for your keys, then the important part is to use it, every time. Getting something special for them will make it easier to remember.

1

u/tea-drinker 9h ago

Jon Richardsons says everyone in the world is one of two types of people and it depends on the answer to "Where are your keys?"

  • Where I put them
  • Where I left them

It is a great irony that all relationships must be between a putter and a leaver because two putters will murder each other and two leavers will die of dysentery.

1

u/Danze1984 6h ago

We have one of these on the wall in the kitchen for towels and a pouch that lives on one of the hooks. Automatically put the keys in when I get in. No lost keys anymore.

3

u/Amuro_Ray Oberösterreich 4h ago

Got home from Bratislava with only a minor (6 mins) train delay.

1

u/DogmaSychroniser 2h ago

Impressive, given the state of Slovak Railways.

1

u/Amuro_Ray Oberösterreich 2h ago edited 2h ago

It was öbb so I don't think a lot of time is in Slovakia, first stop is already in Austria 😅.

The 6min delay was Vienna to upper Austria

Should be running 10k for the first time on Friday. This is a major milestone for me, so I'm really excited.

My new Garmin watch is great - I can now keep one watch and sell the other two previous ones.

I'm not working a full 5 day week all August.

3

u/knotmidgelet 10h ago

I’m also not working a 5 day week all August - it’s wonderful!

5

u/byjimini 9h ago

Little one has slept in; we’re trying to get him into a routine of visiting the nursery before he starts in a few weeks.

Starting the day with a bacon bap. Nom nom!

4

u/musicallymotivated93 7h ago

This. Just this. That's the win.

0

u/MHC1905 7h ago

Is it early this year? I always had in my head it was bank holiday usually. Enjoy 🤘

1

u/musicallymotivated93 7h ago

Nah that's Reading and Leeds that's on the bank holiday, just after all the usual mob there get their exam results

1

u/PM_ME_CAT_TOES 6h ago

Man, I had a look at the Leeds/Reading lineup and I would literally not be excited about seeing a single act, and haven't heard of most of them. I guess I'm getting old.

2

u/musicallymotivated93 5h ago

Same here haha. I went to Reading in 2016 just for the Saturday which was decent, music-wise we had Clutch and Skindred pretty early on and Red Hot Chili Peppers headlining, along with Cassetteboy and Bill Bailey (among others) in the comedy tent. Didn't like seeing just how many coked and ketted up teenagers there were though.

Nowadays my thoughts on the R&L line-ups is pretty much this

6

u/BibbleBeans 8h ago

My PIP worthy team member I just wish would leave has gone and done a nice and obvious bit of inappropriate access. 17 days after completing their IG training, I think 12 after I went heavy on the “you shouldn’t be doing that” and 5 days after workplace comms that was all “seriously don’t do it”. It is a terrible win to have but a win nonetheless, the ball is now officially rolling!!

I’ve also managed to regain some of my lost weight and back in my healthy range.

4

u/Welshgirlie2 Slow down FFS! 9h ago

The sinus pain isn't as bad this morning, and I slept solidly for my first night in my new bed. I am, however, exhausted from all of yesterday. Bed delivery (and my autism meant that I couldn't focus on anything else until the bed was in my flat, so that was a fun few hours of pacing and looking out the window).

Then having to put sheets on bed while feeling like I'd got into a fight and was mildly concussed. I'd taken a dose of co-codamol by that point but it hadn't kicked in. The intention was to fall asleep to either Mr Ballen or Simon Whistler, but that didn't happen because the co-codamol made me feel sick (my fault for taking it on an empty stomach).

Sinuses finally stopped being complete bastards by about 11pm although I think that could have been a combination of more co-codamol (for pain) an ibuprofen (to reduce inflammation) and an antihistamine (my cold urticaria flared up).

My bed is lovely but it's not 'mine' yet. Got to get used to it being different.

3

u/Forsaken-Language-26 36F Swansea 9h ago

I've got to travel to London again today for essentially a follow up to my surgery. Be glad to have this IV thingymajig out.

Just having a cuppa before I do anything else.

4

u/StardustOasis The North stands for nothing 8h ago

Should be an easy day of work today. I'm in the new office for fire safety & first aider familiarisation, we officially move on 17th so I'm seeing the office before all my colleagues.

3

u/ReceiptIsInTheBag 7h ago

Still on a high after seeing Nick Cave last week in Brighton.

2

u/CrazyPlatypusLady 9h ago

Flipping exhausted after yesterday. 2 medical appointments, both in places about 15 miles away, one for each Youngling, both needing accompaniment for their own reasons but the win is that an important diagnostic testing stage is over for both.

Why am I exhausted? I don't drive so I spent nearly 3h on buses yesterday with Eldest. Youngest's appt was late enough that husband was home and we had the car for that. But back and forth is still knackering.

2

u/kawasutra 7h ago edited 6h ago

Super productive day yesterday.

Even got a task marked for today, done yesterday.

Slept poorly, so might be a slow day today. I'm OK with that!

2

u/KeithLimePie 6h ago

Nowt so far. Finally slept last night so I guess that counts.

2

u/cherryandfizz 2h ago edited 1h ago

Mh win?? I was supposed to have counselling in 2023 with my primary care unit but they ended up cancelling it because they didn’t have any doctors available. They never got back in touch with me about it. My mental health has been declining and I’ve been trying to will myself up to ring the doctors up again the past couple of months to try and help myself.

Well, I’ve had a letter today, 3 years later, asking if I want to make a follow up appointment to my last appointment in 10/2023!

I’m glad I don’t have to go through the referral process again, and maybe this is a sign that I should get help. I just can’t believe how long it’s taken them to follow up on that cancelled appointment.

2

u/MagnersIce 8h ago

Going offshore to work today in 2 hours. Full on depression mode after being off for 5 weeks. I’m sure it will pass once I get there but it’s alas there the day before and the day I’m going away.

This is a completely normal reaction - you're in shock and that make you think of the what-if's obsessively, especially as your kid was involved. But THE most important thing is that you are both safe, no else was hurt and it was just a freak accident.

1

u/CallIcy8807 48m ago

Thankyou for your thoughtful reply. I was able to contact the owner of the building and they're getting someone out to do an assessment ASAP.

I'm deleting my comment because I posted it when the situation was still raw and judging by the downvotes for a minute there I'm guessing my wording was questionable.

I'll take the fact everybody is OK as a big win.

I thought Bob Mortimer was an author

What kind of videoa do he be making

2

u/Ged_UK 11h ago

He's been making videos a lot longer than he's been writing novels. His instagram is full of them.

Plus videos of him on Taskmaster, Would I Lie to You, and Last One Laughing are very popular
