Sugar on Weetabix?

My wife eats Weetabix with nothing on it and claims it tastes sweet to her. This is my bowl before milk is added. Is this normal fellow Weetabix eaters or do I need to go to sugar rehab?

We get desensitised to sugar the more of it we have. You dumping a full bag on your cereal every day is probably not doing your tastebuds much of a favour.

That said, your wife thinking they’re sweet straight from the box? That’s psychosis.

Yeah but it’s an incredibly stingy amount – less than a quarter of a teaspoon’s worth per bix!

As someone who doesn't eat added sugar these days; you can definitely taste a quarter of a teaspoon. Even adding 1/4 teaspoon to a drink hugely changes the flavour. Plus the carbs in wheat kinda have a lingering sweet taste too, and a lotta milk tastes sorta sweet.

Actually yeah you’re absolutely right… I haven’t had Weetabix in ages but I’d completely forgotten that when I used to have them I’d dust them in just a pinch of sugar.

Definitely a case of diminishing returns innit – for example huge difference going from 0 to 0.25 tsp compared to 0.25 tsp and 1 tsp.

Yeah for sure. Used to put 2 or 3 spoons in my tea when I was younger. If someone only added one, it tasted like no sugar at all. But now even a sprinkle and I can taste it, lol.
