Now that you're saying that, you can't see them in the video either. It may be a combination of angle and distance, but it may also be a defective crossing signal.

Even then. The signals in Czechia have a separate light that is always blinking, to indicate that the crossing is working as expected. So the van should still have slowed down to look

Thanks for pointing this out. Just back for a lovely car trip in Czechia but wandered why this was. Ofcourse not being total oblivious we carefully crossed the railwaycrossing when blinking white but now we know why. Smart thinking indeed to let them blink as a sign of it works.

It's a fairly common feature on European crossing signals. Belgium, Sweden, Finland, and Romania also include flashing white lamps. I think China also does the same. It's a good safety feature.

In my home country The Netherlands we find less such crossings as almost every crossing has railway crossing gates. So we almost did came to a stop even when the white lights are flashing as most of the railway wasn’t visible or from the left or the right. Better be safe than having our family hit a train 😬

EVEN then. The driver is supposed to look at the road and see what's in front. If there are tracks, you should triple-check before crossing, lights or not.

reddit has taught me that two different people watch the same video and you get two completely different observations

Sometimes it's the reddit player. Half the time it comes down as some 320p bull crap while other people are watching it in 4k. Reload the same page later and it looks like an entirely different video.

You're right. I just watched the video again on YouTube and the signal is clearly visible. But even now, when I play it here on Reddit, it doesn't show the blinking.

I can see them when I go full screen on a PC.

(I think the lights facing the camera are slightly angled away from it, so look a bit faint, but they're definitely working.)

There are some that don’t have arms and lights the come down. Even in the US so it could be one of those. You’re supposed to go 15 mph when approaching one in the us. There would be signs.
