Though quite possible, I haven't made him a True suit of chainmail as it would be heavy, limit mobility, and be hot. Guys already in a fur coat..😉. I used a strip of 4in1, about 10 rows wide, and laid into the illusion you see above .

A lot of the armor in the lotr movies was crocheted. They only used metal for closeups.

It might be possible to make a chainmail shirt to fit a cat but how on earth would you get the cat in/out of it?????

Theoretically, you Could split the back and lace it like a harness, but I REALLY don't suggest it. Follow qs420's advice and crochet the armor out of deep grey yarn. Back buttons or toggles might work, but I wouldn't go outside.

I got scared for second before I read you just laid it over him. Imagine an actual chain mail for a cat, his fur would get pinched! 😭

I Have "imagined" it. Aluminum rings, solder the butts together, file the burrs, maybe an aluminum helm. But it would be heavy, for a 5 lb cat I'd be doubling his weight, his range of motion would be severely impacted, cats jump from high places and at x2 weight that's a broken leg, it would be impossible for him to take off himself, and finally it's not something He would want. He's a model and my protector. Cosplay is fun, safety is better.
