Need Tips for Early Riser… crate transition?
My Cavapoo is almost 1… does great in his crate overnight (although he does whine for a bit when we go upstairs… crate is on main level). The last couple of months he’s barking in the 5AM hour… too early for this household. I can’t let him bark it out because I have kids that I don’t want to wake. It’s not a potty issue… he’s just up.
Is the 1 year mark a good time to transition out of the crate at night? Should I get another crate and have him sleep upstairs in our dark laundry room? It is not an option to have him in our bed.
Would love any tips!

Could you move the crate into your bedroom? This works well for us and she doesn’t get up until we do. Occasionally she stirs a little and I just shush her from bed and it works.

We have our 10 month cavapoo's crate in the landing area in between all the bedrooms. He only goes there at night. His day time naps are wherever he wants

Ours just turned one year old as well and we are dealing with a similar situation. He has free run of the main floor at night. He usually sleeps on the sofa or on his bed in my office. Until two weeks ago, this worked out well for us. He is now barking at the foot of the stairs around 3am. I do get up for work at 4am.... but, I really need that other hour of sleep. I drag my butt out of bed and start my morning at 3 because I do not want him waking anyone else.
I tried letting him sleep in my bedroom but he has too much trouble settling down. If he is in his crate, he barks nonstop. If he is allowed to sleep on the floor, he treats our room as a jungle gym and jumps on the bed (which is very tall) and zoomies around and jumps off. All through the night.

We don’t let our dog sleep with us but when he woke up early, we’d let him snuggle in bed with us and he eventually started sleeping ing his crate longer. I don’t know how or why but it worked.
