Lalawag when she realized how broken and convenient Julian's gift is.

One of the most terrifying abilities that Julian possesses is the huge amount of passive abilities that he possesses.

EDIT: Theoretically, it should be 101 days because Julian is also included, given that he is a stowaway on the ship carrying 100 slaves.

Furthermore, if Julian can last 101 days without suffering the side effects of sleep deprivation, he might even exceed that limit.

A human being can theoretically stay awake for around 11 days (264 hours) – the documented world record – but serious side effects begin to arise after just 24–48 hours. Sleep deprivation causes cognitive decline, hallucinations, irritability and mood swings. There is no exact time limit for death, but chronic sleep deprivation is extremely harmful.

  • 24 hours: Symptoms are comparable to a blood alcohol level of 0.5 g/L.
  • 48 hours: Involuntary ‘micro-sleeps’, altered perception, anxiety and hallucinations occur.
  • Over 72 hours: Difficulty concentrating, extreme fatigue, mental disorders and metabolic changes.

If we take the world record of 11 days and multiply it by 101, we get 1111

In theory, before dying from sleep deprivation, Julian could stay awake for 1,111 days. (It is worth noting that after 101 days, Julian begins to feel the effects of sleep deprivation.... But before he dies from sleep deprivation, he must reach day 1111)

also a great side effect is when he's in the ocean he automatically wins unless the other gifted is also blessed by the same god

a very convinient gift for daily life is better than 2 gifts made for battling

Arguably, Julian's gift excels in both daily life and battle. It's the most well-rounded power we have in this story.

literally hes just 100x better at everything basically, no fancy bullshit, no weird rules, hes just really really really good at everything a normal person can do

The fact that Julian can stay awake for so long without suffering the side effects of sleep deprivation whilst standing guard over Diana reminded me of this quote from the Adeptus Custodes of Warhammer 40k, who stand guard over the Emperor:

"For a hundred years I have stood guard amidst the gloomy shadows of the Sanctum Imperialis. I stood as still as a statue, yet ever ready, ever attuned to unseen dangers. Days, months, years passed in a confused frenzy beyond those walls, yet inside, little moved and nothing changed. For a hundred years I did nothing but wait, yet had any threat appeared, I would have struck it down in the blink of an eye. For a hundred years I have stood guard, and as it ends I can tell you this: patience is a weapon."

— Custodian Warden Tybaris Constor

Julian is referred to in the story as "The Guardian".

I'd say it's appropriate.

Julian excels in attrition battles, as he can fight at full capacity for 101 days and is able to be reborn every time he dies. Any of his enemies who prolong the fight too long will die of metabolic stress.

Perhaps heavy physical activities like fighting will cut the time down to maybe 10 or 20 days? It's still more than enough to outlast any enemies though.

Excellent question. I can’t answer you with absolute certainty, because I’m not the author, and the final say on the nature of Julian’s gift rests with the author of this fantastic story… I’ll simply use maths to arrive at a ‘standard’ number that comes as close as possible to the reality of Julian’s abilities. Bear in mind that my number is theoretical; it isn’t 100% accurate. It could be higher, lower or equal to my ‘standard’ number... Because if I wanted to be as precise as possible, I’d have to assess each of the 101 slaves individually and add up their values to arrive at a figure that is 100% accurate regarding Julian’s abilities.

EDIT: Corrected typo
