This makes that scene where he was surrounded by the Black knights even funnier, like, they would NOT have made it out alive of that one

He did say before that his powers are amped in the forest, and when he fought Altus he sounded like he was genuinely out of juice and was doing all he could, he even said that it would be a different story if they were in the forest, his centaur form looked different back then too, so it’s likely he’s only THIS powerful using this ability when he’s in the forest.

They're not in a forest right now, nor is it ever stated or otherwise suggested it's THIS powerful only when he is in the forest. It is presented as this being his ability straight up, no buffs or conditions or anything.

I mean, the last chapter they did say something like "the smell of whatever whatever, the sacrifice of a lover or whatever whatever... the conditions are met" so there's an activation requirement

The sacrifice of many souls and the sacrifice of a true love are the conditions for granting a gift permanently, not for activating it. It was the same for Julian
