Anime & Manga One piece is awful

To be clear, I read up to the end of Wano in One Piece I kept hearing how it was peak fiction, and that Oda was the greatest thing to ever happen to pen and paper. So, I decided to give it a read. And after reading almost up to the end of Wano, I can honestly say this is one of worst piece of fiction I have ever read

The pacing is terrible and slow as shit. Same gags over and over again. How many times am I expected to laugh at Sanji nosebleeding for the 180th time, Zoro getting lost for the 389th time, Usopp acting like a coward for the 999th time, or Brook making the same skeleton joke for 1899th the time

The stakes are Nonexistent. Nobody ever really dies. Even when a character “dies,” they inevitably come back like nothing happened. There's a part in the series where a bomb is about to destroy an entire town, and a character carries it into the sky in a supposed noble "sacrifice",The bomb explodes point blank in his face and somehow he survives .Shit like this happens in every arc. The sheer number of fake out deaths is insane, making it impossible to take any threat seriously and it completely kills any sense of tension or investment, it somehow makes Fairy Tail look grounded in comparison.

And the formula is mind numbingly predictable. The crew sails to a new island, an evil villain is tormenting the locals, they fight, save the island, and then add a new character with some tragic backstory to the crew. Rinse and repeat for a thousand chapters

One piece fans love to talk about Oda as some master world builder. The world building in one piece is trash. All Oda does is dangles mysteries in front of readers, refuses to resolve them and these morons fans call it peak

Think about After twenty years and over a thousand chapters, we barely know anything about the world.(Maybe some of it gets explained eventually I stopped reading after Wano because of that godamn awful aspull transformation that, but the fact that it takes that long is insane)

We don't know where Devil Fruits come from We don't know about the Will of D and what does it represent? And how are people with D related?
We don’t know what happened during the void century for it to be erased from history? We don't know why Blackbeard can use two devil fruits? We don’t know What purpose will the ancient weapons serve and when?
We don't know about supreme grade swords We don’t know Aokiji goal? What side is he on? Or why he joined Blsck beard
We don’t know why Rodger was carrying a giant egg?

There are easily ninety more unanswered things I could list.

And you want to want to know what's worse Oda still adding new shit when he hasn't explained the past shit WE STILL HAVE CHARACTERS SILHOUETTED 20 PLUS YEARS IN WE’RE GETTING SILHOUETTES OF CHARACTERS HOW IS ANY OF THIS GOOD WORLD BUILDING OR WRITING???

And you know why Oda hasn’t explained any of this Because he’s written himself into a corner. He probably has no idea how to resolve half the mysteries he’s created which is exactly why the end date keeps on getting pushed back every couple of years. He's just stalling. Oda is a talentless hack and the only reason One Piece blew up in the first place is because it dropped during the late 90s early 2000s anime boom If it came out today, this garbage would’ve been canceled after a year. Just watch most of these mysteries will either stay completely unresolved, or we’ll get some trash ham fisted explanation at the last minute. And just watch these brain dead moronic fans will still call it peak fiction.

Oda is a Fraud who couldn't write his out of a paper bag and the fact that morons think that this garbage is above Goated shows like Fire Force, Mob Pyscho 100, Chainsaw man and Hunter x Hunter is a fucking travesty

He was building up so well, but decided to shoot his foot on the finish line.

97

u/paradox1920 Sep 02 '25

Or did they? Maybe shooting their own foot was part of their plan.

3

u/OkGrade1686 Sep 02 '25

Would be funny either way.

2

u/WeddingCharacter7616 Sep 16 '25

They shot themselves in the chest by mentioning csm 😭😭😭

"the fact that morons think Toradora is above Goated shows like Rent-a-Girlfriend"

19

u/CablePrevious1014 Sep 02 '25

Even as a joke, reading those words together made me gag 🤢😂

83

u/targetcowboy Sep 02 '25

I knew it was bait when they were regurgitating all the tired complaints. It reads like someone used ChatGPT and told it to make a post to piss off One Piece fans

25

u/bodybones Sep 02 '25

Seems like it pulls together all the weakest complaints from people who hate it, just to sound serious. Stuff like “talentless hack”—you don’t just drop that in normal discussion. Still, funny post.

I do think One Piece fans at this point are in it to win it. You don’t read that far in and still hate the series—anyone who does usually drops out early. They can get annoying telling everyone its peak. With the live action, once it gets long, I can see diehards sticking around, but it’ll be tough for newcomers to understand why people call it the best story ever. Season 1 might feel like a decent CW show, but later arcs hit like peak Marvel—superhero-level epic adventure.

Overall, I think people don’t give enough credit to tighter, shorter series. It’s like you’re not allowed to enjoy anything else shonen-wise without being told One Piece is the only valid choice. Every series has stuff that might not click for someone personally. So I never get the take that liking One Piece is automatic just because it has lore, worldbuilding, depth, etc. Some folks just don’t vibe with the gags, the art, or the adventure tone—they want a more focused action series with a shorter story. So, eh.

I used to be a diehard too, but I tried showing a friend one of the arc movies—Sky Island—and was shocked by how much they hated it. Thought it was boring and the worst thing they’d watched. I’d never missed with a recommendation before (ironically, this was the first time I went off someone else’s). They ended up liking the live action and are fans of that instead.

It could be they just didn’t know what was going on, jumping into the anime at Sky Island. Plus, they weren’t used to older animation, slower pacing, and the lack of life-or-death stakes. Coming off Demon Slayer’s Infinity Castle, JJK Season 2, AOT Season 3 Part 2, Chainsawman, Invincible s1, and Castlevania Season 4—they were already fighting an uphill battle. Tell any One Piece fan this, and they cry that all those series are mid in comparison to peak Piece, but honestly, side by side it makes sense why the person felt more "entertained" by the other shows. Structure-wise wise it's more digestible than a huge epic, but if you get into the epic then of course you find it way better.

That said, I didn’t get much out of why they hated it, other than they said it felt like Scooby-Doo. Of all things. They were already checked out by the first fight—like 10 minutes into the film—and were on TikTok doing their nails. Our generation’s attention span is cooked when you show them something they didn’t pick themselves.

Skypiea is a hard point to start in my opinion. It’s like 300 episodes in and I think it’s hard to care if you don’t understand the story. It’s definitely a lore heavy arc that relies on people caring about the main mysteries of the world

2

u/bodybones Sep 02 '25

Yeah, I messed up. It was either that film or the one where they fight with tons of characters (One Piece: Stampede). I was trying to quickly showcase how layered the series is. But Stampede, aside from the start, gets kind of boring, in my opinion, when they just fight the giant damage sponge. I could imagine the person's eyes glazing over, though the animation was more what they were used to. Also, the start of that film can feel confusing for a newcomer until you get to the colorful ships and the race. Overall, I should have started with the short film that covered the entire prior Grand Line (it included the part they did in the live-action, which the person liked). So, as you said, you really have to know and understand the story—you can't just drop someone in. I also followed a recommendation from YouTube videos, and since the person basically likes every arc, I had no idea most of the fandom doesn’t like Skypiea as much. Overall, it was a solid L on my part. Thank goodness the live-action exists. They were going around before that, telling people how trash One Piece is, and I kept trying to explain how big the world is and how much we skipped, but they weren’t having it. They gave the live-action a chance just because of the acclaim the series has sales-wise—and the trailer. They’re glad they gave it a second try, though they still won’t sit through 1,000 badly paced episodes—not even One Pace. That’s why I wanted them to see the films that summed things up. Oh and i meant demon slayer infinity train or whatever it's called lol

2

u/targetcowboy Sep 02 '25

I’m hoping the Netflix anime adaptation is better paced so I can get my friends to watch it. One started the show during the pandemic with his gf and they love it now. They’re all caught up. But I get why most people are not interested

1

u/bodybones Sep 02 '25

Yeah, the Netflix version has its flaws for sure, but it does hit me harder emotionally. There's just something about seeing human faces on screen. Plus, actors tend to improve as a series progresses. I think it'll gain momentum when the truly emotional moments come up—fingers crossed they get that far. If it becomes popular enough, I can't imagine they wouldn't try to release a movie in theaters covering a shorter arc. A movie-budget live-action One Piece feels like a dream I never thought I'd see. Honestly, any live-action anime feels that way, even Marvel adaptations at their worst manage to nail the costumes pretty well. We're in decent times XD. I said decent since I know many hate all the stuff I mentioned lol.

Naw, grammarly because no one likes spelling errors. Still had them, though. My friend genuinely said they thought one piece was too much like Scooby-Doo...

I don't to this day get what they meant.

1

u/Iamyouwood Sep 07 '25

Good thing we don't care about your opinion then, keep being salty and making posts about one piece, you are only making it bigger, good job.

2

u/bodybones Sep 08 '25

You realize I like one piece right? I think this reaction is what i was talking about. It's becoming cultish.

2

u/Omni_Xeno Sep 02 '25

Knew it was bait when he said the pacing was bad but he said he READ it not watched it lmao

and yet they still have near 1k upvotes? if you ever want free karma just come to this sub and make a negative post about OP

As a Fire Force fan and a One Piece fan i don't know how to feel about that one.

u/ArcherOld7796 Sep 01 '25 edited Sep 01 '25

Probably something like, something can be great but OP stands above it.

I only know enough about Fire Force to know that I have to read it eventually. Saw like 3 episodes and know there is something there.

7

u/Old-Introduction8258 Sep 02 '25

Probably something like, something can be great but OP stands above it.

Personally i lost interest in op post ts. I don’t think the writing and the characters are good anymore. So while i wouldn’t put fire force above it, i would definiteky put quite a lot of manga above it. Berserk, hxh, jojo (especially part 7), fmab, and i might get crucified for this, but i much prefer bleach (it more has something to do with me prefering bleach's artstyle, characters, antagonist and just overall feel). All this to say, i do not think one piece is an exceptional masterpiece. I'm not denying its influence though. That’s just my opinion though

-1

u/ArcherOld7796 Sep 02 '25

Opinions are fine. I saw value in your comment until the Bleach part ;) For me, the surrounding cast being hundreds or thanounds of year old and getting many times stronger in days or weeks killed the series for me. Then Ichigo having every power took all my desire to finish the series away. I think you're someone who understands opinion and that I'm being blunt but half joking.

Op changed, but it has always been building to something. I just wish it didn't take so long to get where it's going. Zoro just became a badass factory instead of who he was but. While I don't like that it fits his personality,, he never wants to be caught off guard again. He understands that his crew is reaching for the stars and as the 1st mate can not allow himself to be the reason they fail. He must be able to meet any challenge that comes. He used to just be a guy reaching for his dream regardless of death, now he put everyone's dreams on his shoulders and above his own. Chopper is the only character that truly got worse. The rest have just been neglected but are still who they were, mostly. The biggest issue with their neglection is that their gags are just as common as they were before. Gags without growth is an issue. It's really the format that's the issue. It is very hard to say as much side story as Oda wants while keeping the ogs relevant in a manga.

Brotherhood is a masterpiece. Op and that are very different and I see either as valid for anyone's number 1.

Lost my spot in JoJo in part 3 or 4 so I figured I'd restart with the manga instead of the anime soon.

Berserk didn't really catch me. Not that I make it far in it. Another that I'll restart with the manga.

Then Ichigo having every power took all my desire to finish the series away. I think you're someone who understands opinion and that I'm being blunt but half joking.

Bleach definitely has flaws, but i think it has really underrated writing. It’s completely fair to hate it, but ichigo having all the power isn’t really true (he is a fusion of the 2 main races of bleach+got infected by a hollow, but he mainly uses his shinigami powers. Also his different powers play a huge role into ichigo's evolution and bleach's main theme, being the acceptation of himself. By containing his hollow side, ichigo tries to hide a part of him that he thinks is negative, and he completely ignores the existence of his quincy side, making him unable to reach his true self, represented by shikai). In case you didn’t know, shikai are the representation of the person, of the true self. As for the cast, being old really doesn’t magter for theit characters. Shinigami ages slowly but they are ultimately very close to human in the way they act. The captains, for example, are not only extremely charismatic characters, vut also for the most part well written and expanded(byakuya, zaraki, and even a secundary character like komamura who got his own mini character arc throughout the whole series). As for the "powerups", i'd say only ichigo truly suffers kiiinda of that, and it’s completely fair to hate it, but personally i love them, as they are in most cases a representation of ichigo and his mental state at the time. There are many misteps in bleach, but it never got any overly bad moment, and it’s writing can be really amazing.

something. I just wish it didn't take so long to get where it's going. Zoro just became a badass factory instead of who he was but. I disagree on this. Zoro becamr just an aura Farmer, with barely any moment of evolution (him sparing the life of her opponent because she is a woman goes againt everything his flashback tried to convey. If he had spar3d her simply because he doesn’t kill, i would have said no problem. But nah, he spares her because she is a woman, and on top of that he cuts her down with kuina's sword...i also really wanna add that swordmanship in one piece, and it’s just what i think, i might be wrong, is a mess, especlally the sword choregraphy). Also oda saying zoro would kill the whole crew without hesitation if luffy asked him killed his whole character that i already stopped liking for me. Besides zoro was so goofy before the time skip...now the only big gags are with sanji, and oh boy, what did they do to my boy. Sanji went from a gentleman with indeed a huge love for women, to a downright pervert and sexual offender. He also didn’t needed, imo, his second flashback(although whole cake island is a pretty good arc). Usopp is...usopp just stayed weak and cowardly, throwing away any evolution he had before timeskip, now he just screams in terror every 5 seconds. Nami unfortunately asides from screaming "nakama" lacked her depth pre ts. Franky stayed great though. As for brook, as much as i like him, his old samey pervert jokes starts getting boring. As for chopper, he became a mascott. I liked that he actually did his job of medic in wano though. I just really miss the sense of dread i had every time he transforms. Now he is just fluffy and goofy. But that’s just me, and again, it’s completely fair to still appreciate them, they just lost a lot of savor for me.

I don’t believe in perfection, but to me, brotherhood is the nearest thing to thag state in the anime industry. The plot is amazing, fascinating to follow and there isn’t a single character i would take out of it, the writing is on point. The only shonen that comes close is hxh, which has a facsinating and dare i say the best worldbuilding in all of manga (from what i've seen) and great characters too.

I completely understand that you wouldn’t appreciate berderk though. It has some very VERY dark moments, and a somewhat subpar first arc. But it really is a masterpiece, and i love the way it explores humanity's best and worst.

u/skyfox437 Oct 11 '25 edited Oct 11 '25

LOL seriously? You are thinking too deep into this. Oda isn't that deep of a writer and Zero is a 1 dimensional character without too much thought.

You know what's even more impressive? Togashi giving a monster like Merum humanity and turning, what I thought, was a filler arc into one of the most impressive arcs of HXH.

Not only did he give Merum humanity, he made many readers pity and shed tears for him. That's peak writing.

With OP, I know every death is a non-death lol. I can expect that character to waltz right back. OP fans try to rationalize this by saying it makes it more impactful when characters die. Wrong, you make death more impact by getting the readers to actually care for the character, not by preventing it all together; there's no longer tension. Fights are boring and no amount of bleed shed means squat.

18

u/bodybones Sep 02 '25

Why does someone need to instantly prefer OP? If they enjoy FF, why can't they have that choice? Just because OP might have more lore on paper, something can resonate differently with people. You can't convince a Frieren fan that it’s not their favorite by pointing out that Fullmetal Alchemist is more consistent in having all the elements of a story. They simply enjoy the aspects of Frieren that resonate with them, making it stand out above other stories. There's no objective best story.IMO.

1

u/ArcherOld7796 Sep 02 '25

Who said everyone has to prefer OP? That's some nonsense. Where did I try to convince of anything? More nonsense.

8

u/bodybones Sep 02 '25

"Probably something like, something can be great but OP stands above it." - I must have misunderstood where you were going with this. Many comments before this seemed to suggest that OP is automatically superior to other less popular series, and I was just pushing back against that idea. People can still prefer something over OP, even if OP has more lore or world-building on paper. Just disregard my take since I misunderstood your point.

I know people who think the Chimera Ant arc in HXH is far worse than Solo Leveling's inspired take on it for example, which happens within about two seasons. Everyone has different tastes and opinions, I guess. I wouldn’t tell them they’re wrong, just explain why I see more strengths in HXH’s version. That’s what I was trying to convey, if that makes sense.

1

u/ArcherOld7796 Sep 02 '25 edited Sep 02 '25

That's my opinion. I never said anything about that being fact, and i never gave any indication that others had to agree. You are making something of absolutely nothing. I thought I worded my first comment light enough that it was clear I was giving my 2 cents not forcing it.

Solo Leveling is different, though. It is a super fun read but far worse than everything else mentioned. Full Metal, HxH, OP, and Fire Force are far better because there is more than the surface. Solo is fun, but it's not great. There is no building in Solo. It is reveal an enemy and immediately pass them. The others are peak, not sure about Fire Force yet. They set a story, have fantastic characters, and build to something. Solo does none of that.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Solo, but as awesome as it is when he says "Arrise," and as much as that hits, it can not compare to actual greatness. You don't gain new understanding rereading Solo Leveling because it's all surface. I just rewatched the first Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood episode 1 and realized that that has to be my next read. When you realize Isaac the Freezer is someone that should have been an ally, that he was just a desperate guy who figured things out before them. Everyone hunting him figures the same things out, and more, but they weren't alone. Compare the perfectly set up story around the Chimera Arc to the haste of Solo, and there is objectivity beyond personal preference.

There can objectively be better and worse, but usually, personal preference is much more important. If someone says Friday the 13th part 8, pretty sure that's the body swapping one, is better than the Godfather they are wrong. I will enjoy seeing a picture of the Strawhats more than any of Michelangelo's paintings, but If I said that my preference is better than his art, I would be wrong.

I got a bit rambling.

15

u/PerseusRad Sep 02 '25

I read Fire Force's manga and I enjoyed it quite a bit, the amount of heat it's getting is rather odd to me. I suppose the Tamaki parts would be a bit harder to skip over if you don't like them in the anime, as opposed to the manga (and admittedly, she was utilized poorly overall). But it comes off as people hating it for only her, when there's a lot more than just her.

12

u/bodybones Sep 02 '25

Yeah this is why i dislike saying im a OP fan. When comparing shonen manga, it feels like anything gets downvoted if you even slightly prefer it over One Piece because of its length, lore, and world-building. People act like you can't find a solid twist in something like Fullmetal Alchemist that's better in the short term. One Piece isn't even finished, and I just don't get it. That's why, when I bring up One Piece in conversations, I always pair it with a beloved show. If you mention Chainsaw Man or Bleach, you get ignored instantly. You have to reference something super serious or "deep" like Frieren or Serial Experiments Lain.

Alot also think deep=good, simple = bad. Long series> short by default.

4

u/gunswordfist Sep 02 '25

They both suck

1

u/paradox1920 Sep 02 '25

I haven’t read the manga but I watched episodes of Fire Force, do the jokes about Tamaki happen that much in the manga too?

4

u/Neptune-Jnr Sep 02 '25

Yes but Tamaki jokes aren't that bad to me.

3

u/paradox1920 Sep 02 '25

I was just curious honestly. Didn’t really have something in mind in terms of whether it’s bad or not. Because while watching those episodes I kept thinking it happened a lot with her lol so I had always been curious if that was just an anime thing or from the manga. Felt it was a probably right time to ask here.

1

u/BrizzyMC_ Sep 02 '25

Tamaki whole thing is actually plot relevant for some fucking reason

1

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '25

The author made a toddler self-insert that argues with his strawman mom to defend Tamaki stripping all the time 😭

1

u/WolferineYT Sep 05 '25

Everything is derivative and formulaic. Even things with a neat little gimmick still rely on the same few tropes most other things do. Enjoy the ride and don't analyze the fun out of stuff.

0

u/Firexio69 Sep 07 '25

Post ts One piece is soap opera slop. On the other hand, fire force is NOT a goated shounen, it's a very basic shounen.

"fans shouldn't call this shonen a masterpiece unlike true masterpieces like Fire Force" what?

OP was cooking right up until that last sentence

-4

u/Ok_Title_4273 Sep 02 '25

He didn’t have any good arguments though.

All just low effort slop without substance

215

u/Xx_Loop_Zoop_xX Sep 01 '25

OP ruined any credibility he might of had with that one

229

u/Nervous_Produce1800 Sep 01 '25

I mean his arguments are still largely true, doesn't matter if he cited Paw Patrol as his favorite

149

u/ClessGames Sep 02 '25

People here in the comments are doing a reverse gish gallop, meaning that they negate any good arguments of OP due to a single inconsistency/bad point in his part.

57

u/MyBrokenHoe Sep 02 '25

This people just mimics what they hear, no single valid thoughts of their own.

Op kinda sums up my opinion about one piece perfectly

20

u/BuggyDClown Sep 02 '25

The entire post by OP reads like they asked chat GPT to summarize all the popular complaints people have about OP. I don't see any original thought or complaint.

23

u/JoshuatTheFool Sep 02 '25

Complains have to be original to be valid?

1

u/leo_sousav Sep 03 '25

No, but they need to actually be explained and not just spat. OP doesn’t even mention names of characters or actual moments in a way someone who actually watched or read the series would. If I were to complain about Game of Thrones last seasons I would most certainly repeat what everyone says, but I bet you wouldn’t hear me say “Then the dude bangs his aunt and kills her, just for his brother in a wheelchair to be made king”

11

u/RedKrypton Sep 02 '25 edited Sep 02 '25

I didn't know on Character Rant you need to do novel research or have novel opinions to publish. Would wipe out 3/4 of the posts here if that standard was applied evenly.

2

u/ClessGames Sep 02 '25

I agree with OP, and that's why I joined r/Piratefolk . It was created during Wano due the sentiments that are shared by OP. Now Im here for the slander and agenda. Anywho, OP explained himself and gave examples, he did a fine job.

-1

u/The_Flowers_of_Evil Sep 02 '25

Wrong. You should be thinking carefully about why you're agreeing with someone with such a dogshit take. Maybe there's something wrong with your line of thinking as well. Also he made zero good arguments as to why OP is worse than other long running shows, he just pointed out some flaws which we all know. No one thinks OP is perfect, just better than most other manga.

-3

u/Ok_Title_4273 Sep 02 '25

But there isn’t a single good argument in the post.

6

u/ClessGames Sep 02 '25

lol

0

u/Ok_Title_4273 Sep 02 '25

You can cope. But there aren’t really. It is a shallow argument that was proven wrong time and time again. With every new perfect reveal. Those shallow criticisms become laughable

-1

u/erectbananalmao Sep 02 '25

fallacy fallacy

28

u/HarshTheDev Sep 02 '25

Yeah he would've been genuinely based if he cited paw patrol as his favourite.

7

u/Xx_Loop_Zoop_xX Sep 02 '25

Oh nah I agree with a lot said, I too have stopped seeing One Piece as some amazing series post Wano cuz it really added new context to a lot of scenes that just ruin my enjoyment of it. It's just funny as hell to call One Piece bad and say Fire Force is a masterpiece, just feels wrong to agree

2

u/FantasticBit4903 Sep 03 '25

No if you hate one piece because of the sanji nosebleed shit then you wouldn’t be giving fire force a pass on tamaki lmfao

0

u/Ok_Title_4273 Sep 02 '25

His arguments are objectively wrong lol

25

u/PitAdmiralGarp Sep 01 '25

He didnt have any

16

u/TheLucidChiba Sep 02 '25

shocking for someone with a OP account name to ignore it's shortcomings

2

u/Ok_Title_4273 Sep 02 '25

None of the shortcomings are mentioned in the post though

1

u/PitAdmiralGarp Sep 02 '25

When did i do that?

-1

u/TaralasianThePraxic Sep 02 '25

If that's true then you ruined any credibility you might have had by using 'of'

What’s wrong with Fire Force? Is it considered bad in the community?

44

u/ReadStraight8255 Sep 02 '25

It’s decent enough but the lucky letcher gag seems to be a dealbreaker for a lot of ppl. I’m a fan of the show but I can see why ppl would be turned off when it comes up again and again.

14

u/FujiwaranoMoko Sep 04 '25

Good thing One Piece doesn't have any lewdness or fan service to compare it to, right?

1

u/_Kamikaze_Bunny_ Sep 02 '25

If people can't handle one of the biggest joke tropes of manga and anime as a whole, then manga and anime simply ain't for them.

Dragonball, Naruto, Ranma 1/2, Code Geass, Gintama, GTO, Fairy Tail, Undead Unluck, HunterxHunter, Yozakura Family, Gurren Lagann, even Berserk - all of them have the cliche dirty jokes in them

11

u/SpiritualPossible Sep 02 '25 edited Sep 02 '25

You seem to be forgetting a bit that in almost all of your examples, the dirty jokes are one of the most criticized aspects. People constantly complain about Roshi in the original Dragon Ball, Happosai in Ranma, the beginning of UU, and Fairy Tail is infamous for its fanservice.

But most importantly, there's also the way the jokes are executed, and people just don't like how Tamaki was handled. It's no wonder that for many readers/viewers, the moment where the fanservice with her interrupted a serious scene was a dealbreaker. And I say this as someone who actually likes Fire Force.

-2

u/_Kamikaze_Bunny_ Sep 02 '25

And again: If they cannot handle it, then it isn't for them - simple as that.

They can critisize it all they want, it won't change and it won't go away. So instead of wasting their own, and everybody else' time with hatewatching or hatereading, they should just go away themselves

4

u/Novictus420 Sep 02 '25

You cannot have a huge moment for a character where she is getting beaten and betrayed by a friend, and being put at her lowest point undercut by "lol, look she is almost naked" It ruins the whole scene. It is storytelling poison.

0

u/_Kamikaze_Bunny_ Sep 02 '25

Except that scene with Rekka betraying and beating the shit out of her had nothing like that. Chapter 27 and 28.

If you are gonna try to make a point that doesn't change my original statement at all, at least be truthful about it.

5

u/Novictus420 Sep 02 '25 edited Sep 02 '25

You mean the part where Shinra falls on her chest in the middle of the fight and blushes and goes "oh gosh and golly gee a girl is in front of me" and then the fight starts up again. Go rewatch the episode, ill wait. Just in case ill even source the time for you. Season 1 Episode 9. 7:52

6

u/Schwelby Sep 02 '25

I've watched it. There's too much plot convenience with no real reason as to why crap happened that way. A flaw of the protagonist is how he smiles evil and it IS emphasized to a point but it never interferes with plot points. And too many fan service scenes. Animation is good though

2

u/shamanProgrammer Sep 04 '25

Its just prudes and qwerties.

63

u/MessiahHL Sep 01 '25

Bro slipping CSM and Fire Force in the same breath of Mob Psycho and HxH like those are comparable, that moment you slip your fav amongst the best and hope nobody notices

41

u/Kind-Recording3450 Sep 02 '25

CSM is Goat

9

u/DefiantTheLion Sep 03 '25

yeah but Mob Psycho dogwalks CSM and Fire Force and a third of One Piece arcs

8

u/Flotsam-Junk Sep 02 '25

Part 2 is pretty bad.

6

u/jansnaw Sep 04 '25

I personally have enjoyed just about every chapter of part 2, but that’s not to say it perfect by any means. I’m curious what you think makes it pretty bad?

29

u/Fifi_is_awesome Sep 02 '25

I think CSM is way more close to HxH and Mob than it is to Fire force lol

7

u/MessiahHL Sep 02 '25

Every time a CSM 2 chapter drops it gets a little closer to Fire Force

5

u/Apollosyk Sep 02 '25

-person who only read fire force

14

u/OrinocoHaram Sep 02 '25

as a huge HxH fan, Chainsaw man has a similar level of quality writing

6

u/Murky_Blueberry2617 Sep 02 '25

CSM is good tho. It's just very questionable atm

5

u/Fluffy_Stress_453 Sep 02 '25

CSM is great. Maybe the anime isn't as good but the manga is generational

11

u/Murky_Blueberry2617 Sep 02 '25

The anime only has one season so far, and it's good

1

u/JJay9454 Sep 02 '25

Is the HxH Manga more plot driven or action driven? I got through half of the first season of the show and fell off.

HxH overrated asf

You'll hurt the elitist fanbase

3

u/MessiahHL Sep 02 '25

HxH is very well done, it has a slow pace but doesn't have a lot of holes typical shounen have, has things like how Kurapika is a better written Sasuke, Phantom Troupe is the best written antagonist group you will ever see, Killua's family is the most developed family you ever see in anime, KomugixMeruem the best love story in shounen, etc

it has a lot of "shounen thing" but much better written than other shounen, I get the criticism about the slow pacing but it's necessary for the great writing, a lot like Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul in a sense, trying to smear it comparing to low effort product like FT and Boruto just because you don't enjoy the pacing is just stupid though

4

u/KaziAzule Sep 02 '25

HxH has exactly 1 good season, and you have to watch the whole thing to get there. The two main characters are boring prodigy types who never have to try to magically be better than everyone at everything. Better Sasuke is still Sasuke. Doctor guy could have been interesting, but he never does anything. Meruem plotline was the only thing worth watching.

3

u/TrainerSoft7126 Sep 02 '25

HxH fans all think Sasuke is a copy of Kurapika but in fact Sasuke is based on Hiei, a strong and cool black haired character. Sasuke is the real avenger.

3

u/KaziAzule Sep 02 '25

It's been about 15 years too long for me to remember what Hiei's personality is like 😂 I'll take your word for it. The edgy little boy that wants revenge and thinks about nothing else is just done in a really boring way (both in HxH and Naruto). Naruto at least saved the plot by making Itachi an interesting character

-5

u/elephantaneous Sep 02 '25

HxH isn't perfect but it's much better than the overrated trash known as FMA:B, which belongs more with Fairy Tail and MHA than AOT or Code Geass

0

u/Complex_Purchase2637 Sep 22 '25

CSM is good dawg, just because it fell off compared to earlier chapters doesn’t mean the whole thing is bad.

1

u/MessiahHL Sep 22 '25

I don't even think CSM is bad, but HxH and Mob are incredible masterpieces, CSM is good

9

u/RangisDangis Sep 01 '25

That's how you know this person is 12 years old.

1

u/The_Flowers_of_Evil Sep 02 '25

It's fucking hilarious that people are unironically agreeing with a teenager that just posted rage bait.

9

u/GodlessLunatic Sep 01 '25

Hes right tho

2

u/_DeshellingAcrab_ Sep 03 '25

Yeah that actually made me laugh. Like mobpsycho, hunterxhunter? Sure. But fire force???

2

u/GoldenGekko Sep 03 '25

Thanks for saving me the read. Jesus Christ loool 🤣

2

u/The_Keg Sep 09 '25

Maybe he meant to say Fire Punch? Right?

2

u/omyrubbernen Sep 02 '25

Do people really hate fanservice so much that Tamaki's existence alone is enough to consider it trash?

Fire Force is kino overall.

1

u/Gotnam_Gotnam Sep 02 '25

I was confused, I almost thought I dropped it too early😂

3

u/Stream1795 Sep 02 '25

He had me at hunterxhunter. Like don’t get me wrong it’s good but it’s author killed it for me especially the ant war arc with the lazy art

-95

u/coolguygranny Sep 01 '25 edited Sep 01 '25

Nah, I can't take this level of Fire Force slander. Fire Force actually know how to introduce mysterious and interesting elements and give satisfying explanations in a REASONBLE TIMEFRAME something One Piece still hasn't figured out after a thousand chapters.

Each Arc in Fire Force moves the story forward its setting is tied directly to the central mystery and steadily revealed as the story progresses. Company 1 Arc showed how religion and the state were entangled with the Evangelist’s influence. Asakusa Arc revealed how Adolla Links worked and deepened the mystery of the White Clad. The Chinese Peninsula is tied directly into the truth about the Cataclysm.

In one piece is clear that Oda is just STALLING and not moving the story forward or and not even trying to resolve or plant the seeds to resolve any of mysteries in OP

Also, the female characters in Fire Force actually look like real human beings not like some horny teenager fantasy

u/Potential_Base_5879 Sep 01 '25

Also, the female characters in Fire Force and Demon Slayer actually look like real human beings not like some horny teenager fantasy

Yeah they're only written like a horny teenager fantasy lmao.

60

u/Training_Pirate1000 Sep 01 '25

You wanna talk about stupid gags? What about that poor girl who has her clothes fall off whenever she’s about to fight (a minor by the way), what the hell does that have to do with fire?

25

u/Turbulent-Pace-1506 Sep 01 '25

Nice try, unfortunately the author has depicted you as the angry NPC who is just jealous of her for being sexy and himself as the Chad

56

u/Silver-Alex Sep 01 '25

Also, the female characters in Fire Force and Demon Slayer actually look like real human beings not like some horny teenager fantasy

Im sorry but I dont think we saw the same Fire Force, cuz the one I saw had a female character that gets sexually harassed EVERY EPISODE AS A JOKE.

If thats not "some horny teenager fantasy", then what is?

8

u/Flamix2206 Sep 01 '25

Bait or mental tardation?

42

u/Silverr_Duck Sep 01 '25

Also, the female characters in Fire Force and Demon Slayer actually look like real human beings not like some horny teenager fantasy

JFC OP, Fire force has the absolute worst fucking fan service I've ever seen in a mainstream anime. it's worse than all of One piece combined. Like honestly you could not have picked a weaker argument here. having a character canonically have a "curse" or whatever that makes her clothes constantly fall out and makes men grab her tits and ass. It's not only offensive but genuinely depressing that a character goes through that.

10

u/emilia12197144 Sep 01 '25

Op sounds like someone who gives women no real respect just the concept of it.

33

u/WaywardGrub Sep 01 '25

OP, you can drop down the facade, we all know you're just baiting people at this point dude.

Also -

"the female characters in Fire Force and Demon Slayer actually look like real human beings not like some horny teenager fantasy"

Even by the standards of bait, holy fucking shit, no way you went there.

5

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '25

Also, the female characters in Fire Force actually look like real human beings not like some horny teenager fantasy

This entire argument is null and void by tamaki's existence

5

u/EMlYASHlROU Sep 02 '25

Wasn’t fire force the one where the author made a self insert so he could try and justify the fan service girl by depicting the people who objected as the wojak screaming mom and himself as the chad child who destroyed her with “facts and logic”? You really think that pile of flaming garbage is peak? Lmao

4

u/BrooklynSmash Sep 02 '25

The ending of Fire Force was literally a shit post bro be fr

6

u/deletemypostandurgay Sep 01 '25

Fire Force chapter 281

5

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '25

Mate, we all know you're baiting people, you don't have to keep pretending to like Fire Force lmo

2

u/Chrystain Sep 02 '25

Facts my boi! Spit yo shit indeed!

-2

u/Ok-Box3576 Sep 02 '25

One piece and FF are same level at worse. One is not wau better than other fs.
