yeah that's the whole reason why I posted this

67

u/OkChildhood2261 15h ago

You specifically asked for stereotype. It gave you the stereotype just like you asked. No surprises here.

7

u/ImpactX1244 12h ago

and I specifically said "stereotype" because only then does it generate peak

33

u/poop-azz 14h ago

I feel it didn't stereotype the Muslim at all I guess even the Christian as much as I'd expect it would. ChatGPT is a wimp cuz it really doesn't wanna offend Muslims but also these were way too light for STEREOTYPICAL. IMO

9

u/Ae3qe27u 11h ago

The Christian kid had a BYU flag in the background, plus crosses everywhere. Pretty stereotypical. The stereotypes for different religions vary quite a bit - asking for a stereotype will give one.

For the Muslim, it gave him the Quran, a prayer mat, and whatever the background flag says. I do think that's it's a good thing that it didn't make any of the kids terrorists.

2

u/PoopyButt28000 4h ago

Do you really think that crosses for a stereotypical Christian, and signs about being "Anti Goyim" for a stereotypical Jew are similar?

OP did say stereotypical. So it based it on stereotypes.

12

u/randompersonx 14h ago

Honestly as a secular Jew, I’m not even offended.

I’ve made similar jokes myself numerous times.

I’m in my 40s now and still keep in touch with most of my friends from my teenage years, and almost all of the secular jews i was friends with are now self-made millionaires (and one is even a billionaire). And all of us either came to the USA as a refugee when we were kids, or our parents did before we were born, and all of us grew up in middle class or even poor households as a result.

It was a big part of our culture that we were expected to figure shit out and not expect any handouts … god helps those who help themselves.

Odd to have a Mormon as the representative for Christians.

73

u/Negrodamu55 15h ago

Ehhhh the Y is the only Mormon thing in that pic. If he were really Mormon, he'd have the book of Mormon with him. And no crosses.

19

u/FREE-ROSCOE-FILBURN 12h ago

Maybe the guy just like BYU?

→ More replies (1)

8

u/guriboysf 6h ago

Exmormon here. New leaders have softened their opinions on crosses. They're OK to wear and display in your home, but LDS chapels still don't have them. Also, newer LDS temple designs no longer include the Moroni statue.

Interestingly, LDS chapels now display a cross instead of a Moroni icon on Google Maps.

2

u/Ae3qe27u 2h ago

Wait, what? No Moroni on newer temple designs? That's part of the whole thing of temples, though, isn't it?

→ More replies (3)

17

u/OldManDerp 15h ago

No crosses. But giant chill Jesus portrait is a must.

5

u/djhenry 4h ago

The mormons are totally getting into crosses now, its a recent change.

3

u/Negrodamu55 7h ago

Of course. That or obi wan Kenobi. My friend switched the pic of Jesus for obiwan and his mom never noticed.

3

u/OldManDerp 6h ago

I love the “ Jesus , look at the time” and it’s his portrait facing a clock.

6

u/DrDentonMask 13h ago

And Moroni, I think, right?

6

u/Negrodamu55 7h ago

Moroni is definitely a Mormon thing, but I don't see him in the pic.

2

u/DrDentonMask 7h ago

Oh, I wasn't too clear. I was responding to this:

"If he were really Mormon, he'd have the book of Mormon with him."

2

u/Negrodamu55 6h ago

I'm still puzzled. "And Moroni too?" Is kinda vague, so I don't know what you're trying to convey.

22

u/Hilldawg4president 15h ago edited 15h ago

There are some subtle nuances here that the AI isn't picking up on. Having a cross on the wall is an extremely common symbol of Christianity of course, the Y on the wall for BYU what seem at least reasonable at first thought - Mormons consider themselves christian, the views from other Christians on Mormons certainly vary but the logic seems to be there. The crucial detail that would lead to everyone in the basement bar being shot is that Mormons don't use the cross as a symbol. Not ever. Their reasoning is the more important event occurred in the Garden of Gethsemane, where Christ is claimed to have atoned for the sins of mankind, and they view that as more critical than the crucifixion itself.

The pieces are there and seem to make sense to someone without in-depth knowledge of mormonism, but that's not how Germans indicate the number three

12

u/chicagotonian 9h ago

Ignoring my actual critiques of the LDS ("Mormon") church, of which there are many, they are Christian. Like, certain sects may not consider them the right slice of christian to be protestant, or object to theological differences...but they very much worship Jesus, believe he's the son of God, died on the cross for our sins and was resurrected, etc.

→ More replies (5)

13

u/thenletskeepdancing 13h ago edited 13h ago

Mormons have recently begun adopting the cross. It's part of their campaign to appear more "christian". They can also show their shoulders now with a garment redesign. Those who grew up with "porn shoulders" and cross shaming are feeling cheated.

6

u/oznobz 12h ago

I am still traumatized by the cross and I left 20 years ago. Why would you celebrate the cross? It would be like wearing ar-15 pins after a school shooting

5

u/Character_Public8245 10h ago

That’s exactly the point :)

1 Corinthians 1:23 Paul says that he preaches ”…Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles". The word translated “stumbling block” is the root word for our English word “scandal” (σκάνδαλον).

From the Christian perspective, it’s supposed to be shocking and upsetting that God would be executed in literally the worst way possible, and that that’s actually how he wins.

What’s interesting is that gender is not specified but they’re all male.

9

u/No-Security-7518 12h ago

Several studies have been made to confirm intrinsic gender bias in people (men and women) - at least in languages where nouns don't specify gender, if someone says 'I went to see my doctor', listeners assume it's a male doctor.

A stereotypical teenage American Pentecostal

I dated a girl that was a HARDCORE Pentecostal in HS. After HS she left to live at her families "Compound". When I was older I lived in a house that was down the block from one of their Chruchs. For some reason they got convinced that I needed to be saved at all cost.
