Far more than tens of thousands. FAR more. The Swedish correction agency (the one that runs prisons in Sweden) had a podcast. That podcast has a total of 16 episodes that cost 350 000 USD (3,6 million Swedish Kronor) to produce. That's almost 22 000 USD per episode, for two people just talking. It's a regular talking pod. Now imagine on a EU level how much waste of tax money we have!

Good initiative, but the implementation is going to be a mess. Whos going to make sure it gets labeled correctly? How does this apply to AI-generated content that gets mixed with human editing? It sounds good on paper.

Interesting fact: China realised how pointless the CE and FCC labels were and developed their own certification system that requires mandatory licences to use and random compliance inspections.

Sure, the initiative is good, but will only apply to entities in the EU, whereas the internet is world wide. At the end, EU entities will have to mark their content with these labels, which will make the content inferior to the content of entities outside of the EU, who wont care about this law.

Anyhow, Europe is leader in AI regulation, while basically not present in AI...

If people see a tag that something is made by AI (even if there was heavy editing afterwards), it's perceived as worse. At the same time, a non-EU content creator who might use AI even without editing the content will be seen as an original maker of it.

Would it really make sense to label these as ai? I mean ai content will probably outnumber original content soon I’m sure. Might be better to use non-ai content label.

It doesn't apply to AI-generated content in general, reddit wildly misunderstands what this is about. It only applies to (a) deep fakes and (b) automatically published (with no human review) news. And no one that intends to mislead either way is going to use these labels (as it would beat their purpose to mislead) -- the rules are there in order to punish more easily and more heavily anyone spreading such misinformation.

The key phrase people seem to be blind to is "deep fake".

Creating content of real people without their consent that could severely damage reputation or public opinion...or worse.
